I lost an older cow bloat also on the backside of a terrace this morning.

I would NOT intervene, unless he starts bawling or looking like his feeding is limited. The cows that bloat like that are not terribly common, thankfully. We have had it happen on a bedding pack that is only slightly uneven. If you can, keep a large gauge needle, like 14 x 2" on hand to insert into the left side to release the gas. Might have to adjust the needle to get rid of the fermented rumen gas.

Thanks for your insight.. i did end up taking him the next day. Just wasnt sure he was getting enough... although he wasnt bawling... i thought it was a really freak thing.. still a bummer.. frustrating thing is I see the cattle everyday and most days multiple times so to have that happen is disappointing.
