Interview: Aleksandr Omelyanov, Dima Yaroshenko - DISSIDENT | 42° Torino Film Festival

Cristiana Palmieri sat down with Aleksandr Omelyanov, producer of DISSIDENT, and actor Dima Yaroshenko, whose film is in Competition at the 42° Torino Film Festival.
During the interview, Aleksandr Omelyanov explained the motivation behind producing a film rooted in the politically intricate history of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. He shared insights into how he and the director worked together to strike a delicate balance between staying true to historical events and crafting an engaging, creative narrative.
Dima Yaroshenko, who plays the lead role, described his approach to bringing his character to life. He delved into the many layers of his character’s personality, exploring the personal and historical complexities that shape his journey.
DISSIDENT:
Oleg, a former soldier in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, fought for Ukrainian independence against both Nazi Germany and the communist Soviet Union during World War II. After an amnesty deal is reached, Oleg is released from a prison camp and returns to Ukraine, where he struggles to find his place in a society at peace.
