Elly-May Barnes lives and breathes music.
The daughter of acclaimed Cold Chisel frontman Jimmy Barnes, Elly-May has spent a good chunk of her adult life travelling the length and breadth of Australia performing alongside him to packed houses - she’s also released music of her own.
Now she’s the host of Headliners, a new 5-part series on the ABC.
In Headliners, Barnes brings musicians with disabilities together to form two bands who are mentored by “Band Leaders” You Am I’s Tim Rogers and Killing Heidi’s Ella Hooper, as they prepare to play to a crowd of 14,000 at the sold-out Mundi Mundi Bash in Broken Hill.
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at three after being born 14 weeks premature and suffering a brain haemorrhage at birth, Elly-May has battled debilitating chronic pain and mobility issues her whole life.
Elly-May speaks to TV Editor and resident Screen Queen Clare Rigden about the highs and lows of filming, the discomfort of being vulnerable on camera, overcoming the need to be perfect, and the important contribution musicians with disabilities will make to the industry once given more opportunities.
Headliners premieres Tuesday, November 19 at 8 pm on ABC and ABC iview.
