@@mariabogdan6971 C: = Carrie ten Napel, E: = Emma Kok C: We have the story of Emma Kok and I think it's really crazy that you're here Emma because you've just completed a gigantic world tour with Andre Rieu and that's not always easy for you because of your chronic illness which means you can hardly eat or drink anything in life, but it doesn't stop you from going for your dream. We met you three years ago when you won the Voice Kids, then things went very quickly. André Rieu took her on a world tour where she regularly left the audience in tears. C: Emma, how many people Emma around the world Have you already made cry? E: Yes, I wouldn't know, but every evening we stand in front of more than 10,000 people, so yes, you can do the math, we have 90 concerts year, so yes, yes, it is really huge, isn't it. C: That world tour, what kind of year have you had, can you describe that? E: Yes, I'm really living my dream life, it's really a dream come true. Every city and every country has a different kind of audience and every audience is different. It is just really bizarre and just yes very beautiful to experience. C: Yes, what feeling do you have when you are on that stage then? E: I really feel free then I can really manage my illness and then I can really forget it and I can just leave that behind the scenes for a while and then I can just go on stage I can really be my real self. C: And you already said it on the stage “when I go off again later I'll be back in reality”. What you are talking about the stomach paralysis. What kind of disease is it that you have? E: I have gastroparesis and the literal translation is that my stomach is paralyzed for most part and I can barely or hardly take normally food or drink and for that I have to go 22 hours a day with pumped formula food that I have had all my life. It has only been six years ago I was then diagnosed. From a baby that at 9 months I already had this, so it has been a constant search to see what it really was. C: That pumped nutrition is also here next to you in a bag, to what extent does this actually limit you in your life in everything? E: Eating is a very big social thing. Actually, everywhere you go there is food. So you are always confronted with it because you can't eat anything at all, yes, not at all, you can eat small things, but it's eh, well, for example small raisins, so I take a few of them during a dinner, so the rest just have a normal meal and I then have a few raisins. Also just doing things spontaneously isn’t possible. So, when someone rings the door, for example, the door rings then my mother, for example, just jumps up, but for me I first have to get the pumps, then hold the hoses, see if it doesn't get stuck in something and only then can I walk, so the whole spontaneous part is also gone and what does that do to you because yes, that is really a struggle, I have a struggle every day and it is just very difficult to deal with that and to find a way to deal with it and yes that is really a struggle every day C: And how do you do that, how do you try, you have to deal with that? E: Yes, that is very difficult, I mean, if I don't have that because I sing, that is actually my strength and that is actually what keeps me going, when I sing. I also say that sometimes, you know, I don't know how I would be doing now mentally, because mentally it is also very underestimated. C: It is a serious illness, isn't it physically, but mentally it is also perhaps even a bit more difficult? E: Yes, it really drags me down. Through it I must say [singing] is almost my salvation, actually that is REALLY my salvation. Yes that is really the best medicine I have ever had, what I could ever have found . C: We have images of you going to rehearsal, for example, then you also have it with you, so sometimes it must almost feel like a prison? E: Yes, yes it is actually. You are really stuck so I sometimes explain it as: when you walk the dog, yes, you see it, it is also attached to the leash and that is actually how it feels. And if you are in the woods and you let the dog loose, he is free and that is what it feels like when I go on stage. C: So you can cope with that as if you were free. E: Yes, the dog is not tied up all day and I do, but yes, that's how it feels. C: Yes, because when you disconnect it, it's just before a performance? E Yes, correct. When I have a performance, I'm actually there all day and then I disconnect five minutes before I go on. Like now I'm going to get off and then when I get back off the stage and I'm completely changed then I'm going back on. C: Yes because how long can you go without it? E: The maximum I can go without the pumps is for a maximum of 2 hours per day, so I'm on it for 22 hours, so day and night, and but that also differs per day, sometimes I can indeed take 2 hours off and sometimes I can I can only hold it for half an hour and then I feel very weak again, so it really varies from day to day. C: Yes, I can imagine. Of course you need your energy, so a world tour like that is super heavy. E: Well, it's me. I always say it takes a lot of energy but it also gives a lot of energy back, so. And André has come up with that very handy [routine] for me that I'm on before the interval, so after the break I go to the hotel and then eh, I'm lying down, I'm actually always just in bed at 9:30 am, so I just get the sleep that I need, so that is very well organised. I just get the sleep that I also need, so that is arranged very well. C: Yes you are only 16, you also have school yes, how do you do that school? E: Yes, that is a side issue. School what is school? Well yes I do it online now via the world school and that is very nice that it exists so I can do everything online and I can just make my own schedule so that is very nice and we then combine that a bit on tour. It is more difficult than we expected, but if I make a good plan then yes, it should work out. C: You are very open about your illness, you also share a lot about it. Your channels, for example Instagram you shared this during your holiday. [The girl Dinner clip]. Why do you think it is important to be open about it? E: Well because it is a rare disease and I have also set up my own foundation for this purpose because there is simply not that much attention and the rarer the disease, the less attention the disease receives in terms of research and so on, so I just think it is very important that I share it and that I am also on social media. Not only to share the beautiful and fun things, but also just the reality because it is just not always fun and not always easy, C: No, and because you walked when you were in primary school, you already had a children's walker, right, and you had that bag on it with you with the food pumps, then you were also quite bullied, right? E: Yes, that's right. At primary school it lasted TWO years, then I switched schools, but it actually continued there and then it also gave me the realization that oh then it's also my fault and then I am really different then. I did realize that I really had something and that it was really going to get in my way. C: Tell me, are you still bothered by that? E: Yes, well, unluckily it didn't end there, I have struggles every day. And I think it's difficult every day. C: Yes, do you get something like that when you are on such a big stage in front of that enormous crowd in those beautiful dresses because you are also very beautiful, and you stand there shining. Is it like you are just giving a big middle finger. E: Absolutely. C: Don't you think it's usual for them to have a look sometime? E: I actually hope that they will come to see a concert one day and that if they ask for a photo, I will say, well, I don't actually know who you are. Yes, so I hope so, but I feel when I'm on stage, I feel like I'm dealing with the whole world. C: Yes, well, that can also be seen because we just had a piece of Voila, your version of Voila from Barbara Pravi. Well, that made such an impression worldwide, let's listen…. Viewed 72 million times on KZbin and streamed 47 million times on Spotify, boy, you can no longer walk normally on the street, it's huge, of course. And Emma, you're going to tour again with Andre Rieu and you have other big news? E: Yes, that's right, I have. Today I can finally announce that I will have my own concert on October 21 in 2025 in the Concertgebouw. C: Wow, and that is real. E: Yes that was real, that has always been a dream for me and I personally think the concert hall is one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world, so that I can be there next year, that's real, yes. I’m working on my own songs, my own songs are included and covers. It is just very important to me that I sing the songs that tell my story and that will really suit me. C: Yes, well you will immediately do a very special song, eh, but also on Tour again with Andre Rieu. What does he mean to you? E: Yes, what he has given me is priceless, and as I said, he really made my dream come true because that's just yes, I can't really explain it very well, but I am so grateful to him and I mean I stand in front of more than 10,000 people every evening because of him and he makes me feel free every evening and feel as if I can handle the world. So yes, I am really very grateful to him. C: Yes and thanks to him you can also take that next step to the Concertgebouw. You will soon sing Imagine for us, why that song? Why does that suit you well? E: I think it's especially bad [in the world] at this time what is important is that we are just a little nicer to each other and that we treat each other better, and yes, we do have to do that a little more for each other. C: Well you are absolutely right. You can go to the stage, the strings are already ready here your brother is very special here too.

@RogerC-2024 Thank you so much for that translation, Roger! It was a long interview, and took some time and effort on your part. This is more insight into her life and what it's like being her, more even than I've heard or seen from her before. I love the part where the interviewer suggests "...it's like giving them the middle finger..." and Emma agrees. 😂 Success, it has been said, is the best revenge.

@@jazluvr99 I also loved that middle finger remark and answer. In the past, Emma has said that she bares her bullies no ill will. But a non-aggressive middle finger thought is priceless and well justified. I love it. I would also love to know what some of those bullies think now as they watch her star rising.

If I were Emma's manager, I would position her fund not as a research fund, but as a technical fund that would allow developing prostheses or implants for such diseases. This is dozens of times cheaper and faster than fundamental medical research, which requires investments of hundreds of millions and lasts for decades.

❤❤❤Public lecture at the Academy of Thought Books and people - it is they who create the meaning of life. More often - together. Time is a strange thing, it slowly filters the people around you, opens your eyes and teaches you many things... ❤️"It is important that your own conscience does not blame you for anything, otherwise what someone will say and how they will evaluate you is pointless and insignificant."❤️
