Geoff's book is hands down the best insight on the Beatles sound. It doesn't just stop there, but further explores the psychology behind the sound and the interaction of the group in a very intimate way. I've been a Beatles buff for 40 years and Geoff's work provides more insight into both the genuis behind the Beatles music and their sound engineering. Just Brilliant! P.S. I just got my hand on a FLAC of the vinyl MONO of Sgt. Pepper and it blows the doors off the stereo version.

I think Geoff Emerick was a little bit conservative after some time. I mean, you don’t criticize John Lennon, you go along with him because he writes Happiness is a warm gun. Just remember, Geoff Emerick is interviewed because he participated in recording the Beatles, it’s not the other way around.

Geoff Emerick's book is great! So is Tony Bramwell's. So is George Martin's. It's amazing they stayed together as long as they did with everything that was going on around them, as well as the band itself. Without Brian no one could reign them in. Not that Brian could have anyway. When they came back from India, and Yoko showed up.... How stressed out do you have to be to walk out on the Beatles? Only Geoff Emerick knows. It's amazing Abbey Road happened at all. But what a Swan Song!!! Long live The Beatles.

I find it hard to believe that EMI was so archaic in their stanch view of the changing recording world and would not put funds into an 8 track machine at the time, when all EMI’s competitors had this equipment. After all, these were the Beatles they were dealing with. Just imagine what Emerick may have been able to yield from a recording secession. In my view, the EMI of the 60’s should have be held accountable for stifling any artist’s creativity with regard to recording!

In fact, there is an interview with Eric - I think its on the DVD version of the film 'Living in the Material World' (I have this film) where he talks about being asked to do 'While My Guitar....'. He talks about how nervous he was and how it was like being invtited to the holiest of the holy (or words to that effect) . So actually, what you were implying - it was actually the opposite which was true. Seek out the full interview and you will see.

Count Basie for one, recorded a whole album of Beatles. Their genius crossed genres and was recognised by all and in all areas. Musicians appreciate good music, there are no 'genres' , that is something fans or the music media talk about, musicians of any kind rarely talk about 'genres'

He left, but he is interviewed and he has written a book. I don’t have a maximum of sympathy for Geoff Emerick

Actually, many prominant jazz musicians in the 60's admired The Beatles songwriting, in fact many recorded some of their songs. Anhd of course many prominent Conductors and Orchestras released classiocal versions of their songs.

I never claimed that they were not hum. I am not even claiming they were fantastic musicians (although pretty decent). I am a musician myself. My father was a professional jazz musician. I have music in my collection which ranges from early mountain music through to Beethoven and everything in between. I was simply pointing out the inventiveness and creaticity of their songwriting, which becomes apparent when I play their music on guitar(s) or piano.

Sorry, cannot complete in one box ! My father was an old time jazz musician, whose heroes were Louis Armstrong, Jack Teegarden, Duke, Bunny Berigan (shall I go on ?) and even though not liking the new 'beat music when it came out , appreciated their genius. He would often point out to me something musically interesting when I had one of their records on. Taught me a lot about music actually.

Its a fact mate. All the 'anybody elses' have said it at one time or another ask Clapton, Brian Wilson, Bee Gees etc etc And as for GE, well The Beatles were already massive before he became the engineer.

Actually not true. They did not 'try to do their best' when Eric came in. What George actually said was that they were on their best behavious when Eric came in. That was simply to not let anyone know how bitchy they were with each other at the time of making that album - The White Album.

Actually , far better songwriters than anybody else. Thats what stood them apart from all other bands in the 60's. No-one else then (or since) has produced 13 albums of songs of that variety and quality. Ref Geoff (and George Martin) they didnt make The Beatles, The Beatles made The Beatles. After all they produced other artists with far less success. John said 'George Martin and others claim credit for The Beatles success but they were dealing with fucking genius. Play me some of their music'

Funny how a random user wrote here some years ago that he was unhappy with the innacurate memories of about George Harrison guitar playing. So a random guy knows more than Geoff Emerick? Funny!
@victorarena23

no not random guys Ken Scott and others who were witnesses and common sense. When a guy says george couldn't play the solo to Hard Day's Night and then you watch videos of him handling it with ease you have to question either his memory or his ethics. He has stated he didn't like George. They didn't get along too well.

@@victorarena23 I read his book , one thing is the difficulty George had coming up with the solo in the studio for the first times…. And another very different thing is when you watch a video of him playing it with ease at a concert when he has already memorized it and played dozens if not hundreds of times.
@victorarena23
@victorarena23 9 ай бұрын
yeah lots of what he wrote was refuted by scott. however I do not doubt that george had trouble or should I say took a long time coming up with solos. especially when the beatles shifted from rock-a billy to rock but he eventually got there. his playing on the last 3 albums is amazing. I also think emerick confused perfectionism with struggle. just because someone continues to work out solos doesn't mean he can't play them. just watch the LIB sessions. George sounds like an amateur in rehearsals and killed it on the roof top
