The thing I found most interesting and at times almost amusing is the way Kirk uses his face to show expression. It's subtly fantastic! When Atticus and Gaius had listened to Jesus' Sermon the first time, and Atticus came up and said those few words to Gaius(Gaius was on the horse), and Gaius said absolutely nothing! But his face said a thousand words! And Atticus said at the end as he walked off screen, "Nice chat!" I just cracked up! That scene was great! I loved it!😇🤣

The scene where Jesus calls Matthew showed me what a consummate professional Kirk is. He's ready to draw a sword on Jesus when Matthew leaves the tax booth and Gaius' protection. His reaction was perfect.

Respect for this actor! Loved the answers (very honourable) but not much the questions! It was a little “hard” conversation to hear, in my opinion! I would ask the following: 1. How is it to play Gaius? 2. Without giving away details, how is this character going to develop, generally speaking in the upcoming episodes? 3. Knowing that the Romans were the enemy of the Jews, historically and biblically, why there’s a “neutral” character among the Romans like the character of Gaius? 4. What have you learned by portraying this character? What are some of your personality traits that are similar to Gaius? And what are some of the challenges to portray this character? 5. What is the impact of the “Chosen” series in your personal life and walk of faith?

He pretty much answered your questions 1-4 on his own, despite the awkwardness of the interviewer, as you listen to the points that he makes. “Reporters” throughout the years have clearly demonstrated that there are some folks who can put together a well worded story that are clearly at a loss when it comes to formulating a worthwhile question when seeking info from the sources right in front of them. Two examples that come to mind are Bill Belichick, who is notorious for being dismissive and blunt when asked a lame question at the post game podium, but can also have his eyes light up and delve into great detail and insight when someone asks him a thoughtful question that deserves sharing his analysis with the fans. The other is Norman Schwarzkopf, who led the American forces in the first Gulf War which was the first time we had daily live press briefings covered on network and cable stations. He actually had to explain to a reporter that he couldn’t answer their question about what was the next step in the American forces response to what was happening because “the enemy is also watching the CNN broadcasts.” 🤣

Love Kirk’s patient answers. Thanks Kirk for giving so much of your time on this occasion. I enjoyed his response to the “were you relieved to not need to do a middle Eastern accent?” question. I agree shaving daily is a drag, just look at Dallas (he’s got a very short beard going pretty much all the time ;)), but I for one am thankful for their friendship for 20 years. This is that collaborative thing that I find so attractive in the arts. Something I would suggest is a “proof of God”. Dallas has two co-writers he’s been working with for awhile. He assembles a cast and of course he’s trying to think of his friends (esp the ones who are great actors and collaborators) to play in the sandbox of his latest project - The Chosen. Not just going to be a bunch of white folks though - needs to be authentic. There will be a few Roman soldiers, so of course he calls Kirk. I wonder if they read anyone else for the part of Gaius? They probably had to in order to convince other stakeholders. From four episodes to three seasons and counting. There’s a subtlety to Kirk’s performance that is just so solid! Alot of cadence/rhythm & non-verbal stuff. I feel certain that Dallas would have cast him even if they had never met before! It was necessary for him to be in this project.

A quote from the first season, “Get used to different”. The Gospel of John says “many more things happened but only a few were written about”. Zebedee wasn’t a main character in the Gospels. Regardless, it’s a great series, but if you’re sitting there watching it and picking it apart then you’re missing the message.

I guess I am kind of spoiled with interviewers that prepare with more research for their questions and/or more animated like Dallas or Raymond Arroyo of EWTN you really want to watch the interview not just for the person being interviewed but because of the personality of the host. It’s just that I guess I’m too old school, and it just seemed like an interview with someone that was picked out of a crowd, again, I hope I’m not offending it just for an interview seems different, but maybe that’s just me!

I am a bit behind watching this series but I am really enjoying it and it really makes me think about the reality of life during Jesus's time and the "behind the scenes" lives of the people we read about in the Bible. I feel that as well...the scene after the Sermon on the Mount when he just sat there on the horse, silent! Not answering the questions of Atticus...compelling. I think he knows that Jesus is the real thing! Then with Simon, working on the water issue, the way he lets Simon in, defenses are down, talks about his family and why he adopted his servant's son. I WANT HIM TO BELIEVE AND BE SAVED! And he is a fictional character...LOL Thanks to Dall as and the other writers for creating his character like they have. It's awesome that he actually has protective feelings for Matthew. Not sure if Matthew picked up on it, however. I just love this whole show!!!!!! Great job, across the board, from everyone involved! Of course, they have an awesome, true story to base it all on and colorful, human characters that were actually real. I don't mind the liberties they have taken to make it so amazing!!! I have always known that Jesus was a real person, and the Son of God, and Jonathan is doing a great job protraying Him as I have always imagined Him and believed Him to be. I guess I'm not the only one!! LOL

I think this interviewer might be shy or nervous. It happens. He's such a great actor really love his character and relationship to Mathew. It's very heart warming. Its never the best to say "what's that like" its best to ask more detailed questions along with that. Otherwise its too open ended.

This is NOT a spoiler alert but a GAIUS is BAPTIZED BY APOSTLE PAUL (1 Corinthians 1:14). And THUS THIS CHARACTER MIGHT BECOME BORN AGAIN, AND there are 3 more Biblical references to a Gaius- I will let you look them up, (Acts 19:29, Actus 20:4 and Romans 1:23)- but he is definitely a part of the first Christians AFTER THE CRUCIFICTION- Glory to God for saving Romans too!

We don't know Cornelius' full name; maybe he's Gaius Cornelius Maximus or something, and his friends just called him Cornelius...

Gaius is one of the most decent Roman soldiers they don't show him as a brutal soldier as they were back in those times. I know many Roman's back then did convert to Christianity wonder if Gaius will convert being his friendship with Matthew and even Jesus perhaps there is hope for Quintis and Gaius to convert. Stay tuned to find out. There was a Roman soldier when I was taking religion in Catholic school that one of the Roman soldiers at the cross was blinded as one of them stabbed Jesus on the cross because he wasnt dying. Wonder if that was ever true but they did teach us that so we'll see.
