As a previous teacher of gifted students, I love it that Matthew is portrayed as highly intelligent but somewhere on the autism spectrum--as a significant percentage of gifted people are. How beautiful that Jesus used Matthew's gifts, both accepting him and exalting his God-given abilities!

This is just one more example of, at best, literary license. It is simply making things up. We are told to not add to scripture. Remember this is a TV show. Most of which is writers fantasies. Christians should not be endorsing The Chosen.

So do I. And I think he really could have been: I read that the way the Gospel of Matthew is written, he is known as "meticulus Matthew." I wonder if this was part of the reason The chosen portrayed him this way? I actually have Asperger's Syndrome myself, so it is great to see him portrayed this way!🥰

making assumptions that are not written and they have no right to do that. The Bible is not for entertainment to re write and confuse people as to what is written and what isn’t. People obviously do not take Gods Word seriously.

Let me be honest here, for the first time in a very very long time, it made me cry, actual tears pouring down my face, and I found myself praying and saying how much we need this right now! It was the most heart felt prayer I've said in years, I said many prayers in pain, or thankfulness, but it was hope that broke my heart, and knowing it can only come from Jesus!

@@RA82828 i am a film student and although the chosen is a good series, it is not accurate to the original texts. So I cannot continue to watch, although the first season was captivating I learn more from actually reading the bible. Because I know it's not wrong. As I said, I am a film student. You need to understand how easy it is for people to trick you even with something as simple as where characters stand in relation to each other. For example in the scene of the fish being pulled from the right side, how it played out in the bible was very specific even down to the number of fish. And I believe Matthew wasn't even there at the time unlike how it showed in the chosen. And you might say, why do you choose not to watch this when there is much more nasty content out there than this show? Yes, I do not watch ANY modern media. Only historical documentaries and archival videos of real events, with religious videos like this online.

@@joshhickson7551 nobody hates you, but it does make you sound like a pharisee... Their goal is to bring THE CHOSEN, the disciples, the people of the biblical times...Jesus and those who received healing and the miracles...TO LIFE! And draw people to get into The Word. It is NOT the Bible. It is a SHOW to get people excited about Jesus...it humanizes people that lived so long ago it is difficult to connect with them. Consider it is not meant to REPLACE the Bible. It IS meant to excite people so they open their Bibles and get into the REAL WORD. Isn't THAT a good thing? If YOU cannot watch it, then don't. But please don't post negative comments here that may discourage someone who is considering watching it. People ARE recommitting themselves and others are being saved!

@@joshhickson7551 Dallas Jenkins (Director and producer of the Chosen) has said that he's not trying to be a replacement for scripture, and that the Chosen is using the likeness of these historical people to bring people closer to God, and he's said before "It's not your job to feed the 5,000, only to provide the loaves and fish."

@@joshhickson7551 In the beginning of the series it says it is based on a true story but some things as been added. just like any based on a true story movie. Yes I read my Bible and see some of the things are not like the Bible but it gives us a sense of the word and maybe what it was really like. Like Mary so many years they called this woman a prostitute, which she wasn't. I was just happy to see in the Chosen that she was close to Jesus, a lot of people turn a blind eye to that. There are even studies that say that she gave money to Jesus in order for him to teach. She had a fishing business and gave her earnings to Jesus. So don't stop watching because it's not 100%, just enjoy the truth of which it was based.

Like many others, my favorite scene concerns the call of Matthew. Matthew was looking for Jesus when Jesus was at the house of Zebedee and Salome. As Jesus moved away from the confrontation with the Pharisees, he turned and locked eyes with Matthew. In the following episode, we have the scene of Jesus passing by the tax collector's booth occupied by Matthew. Then we witness the second 'look' that Jesus gave Matthew. But for me the most moving moment in the whole episode, is when Matthew asks: Who? Me? And Jesus answers "Yes, you." It shows us how deeply Jesus knows each of us, how lovingly and persistently He calls us, and how patiently he guides us to follow Him and conform ourselves to His image.

I like the way Jesus makes a point of what Torah was and the stories that were left out. As a Gentile I don’t know much about Talmud, but it seems the Pharisees do in the Chosen. I like the way Jesus points out what IS in Torah and I get the hint that He isn’t thrilled with religious laws that aren’t God given. Am I correct?

So HE WAS GOING TO GET THE WORD OUT IN HIS TEACHING BEFORE HIS TIME! They were so "religious" they couldn't recognize THEIR OWN GOD, AND HATED HIM! The enemy has and still does use RELIGION to do his bidding, to make the religious leaders at the time ask his questions of OUR LORD! Why did they not know who was riding in on a colt the fold of an ass on the day Daniel was told by Gabriel was the DAY OF THE LORD. @Kevin Belgrove Thank you for this lesson in the ancient names of Christ. If JESUS, or Yeshua taught us nothing else, he taught us this... those who hold to the letter of the law and not the spirit of it will be lead astray and could possibly then be deceived. He made that point over and over in the scriptures in regard to those who held to the letter of the law over its spirit. It was from this very type of thinking that JESUS came to free us! He used the rigid ideas about the sabbath as a teaching tool. He gathered grain on the sabbath, he healed people on the sabbath. In other ways he taught this lesson, he hung out with prostitutes and tax collectors, he had women in his entourage. Why would you choose to be RE-ENSLAVED by the rigid interpretation of the law when Christ obviously freed us from it??? Remember it was those who rigidly held to the letter of the law who (through the will of the Father) brought Jesus to the CROSS. It was this ideology that lead Paul to persecute, torture and MURDER Christians. Christ himself freed Paul from this very thing!!! I pray you will be freed from the bonds you have chosen to burden yourself with. In HIS precious name I PRAY!!!

He is trying to give you an understanding of Matthew from mankind’s point of view and not from the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. First understand that God has me relating my testimony as to how I overcame my sickness without the help of doctors or pills since I allowed the Holy Spirit to sanctified my heart in God’s truth and I am now one of the very few who have overcome sin and sickness in this life. Yes, I am definitely relating that I can no longer sin nor will I ever get sick ever again. Now I certainly am not relating that I will never die but when I do die to this life it certainly will not be from sickness or tragedy like those who have been deceived by the devil’s many false preachers and religions. I will live to a ripe old age and I will simply stop breathing. “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:1-16‬ ‭NIV‬ There are many scriptures that use terms like, do not sin, has died to sin, has ceased from sin, cannot keep on sinning and cannot sin. All of these terms are used when describing a follower of Christ but yet many believers think that they can never stop sinning. These deceived believers certainly do not realize that ‬a Christian is someone who is a follower of Christ which means they are someone who is living a sin free life just as Jesus did. Many have also been deceived into believing that Matthew and the other apostles remained sinners and they have no idea that would mean that God and scripture is then lying to us since scripture relates that God does not hear the prayers of sinners. Now if you are one of these believers who fell for this nonsense and who is under the influence of the devil’s lies then kindly ask yourself how Paul or the other apostles could have performed the healing miracles that they did if they were still sinners and God was not listening to their prayers? “Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭9:31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”” ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭3:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭5:12-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭17:14-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ A righteous person does not sin and anyone who is doing the will of God can no longer sin since they are now born of God and they are being guided by the Holy Spirit of Jesus which is Holy and pure and who cannot sin. This is why Matthew and the other apostles were able to do the same miracles that Jesus was able to do since they became sanctified in God’s truth and they overcame their sins. Does this then mean that every sanctified believer can now perform miracles? No it certainly does not. “Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Anyone who sins does not know God nor have they ever seen God and anyone who sins certainly belongs to the devil. “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Anyone who is truly living by the Holy Spirit will eventually learn how to overcome their sins and this is when they are now born again since they are born of God and they can no longer sin. Since they can no longer sin they can no longer get sick since the devil can no longer touch them with his afflictions. Sin and sickness is strictly of the devil and it can only be found in those who do not truly understand God and scripture. Since they are ignorant of scripture and they are not comprehending God’s truth they are easily influenced by the devil’s lies and so they remain deceived. “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭5:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ We are all born in sin and in ignorance of God’s truth since we are born into a sinful fallen world that is ruled by the devil. Since everyone is born in ignorance of God’s truth this is why God commanded the parents to teach their children His word and truth so that they would then understand how to live righteously and not live in sin. God warned us many times in scripture that our ignorance of His truth would allow sin and the devil to destroy our lives and even the lives of our children. And yes our sins can definitely be passed onto our children since they are also vulnerable to the attacks of Satan and his demons both inside and outside of the womb. “And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus‬ ‭34:6-7‬ ‭NKJV The iniquity (immoral behavior, sin) of the fathers will visit the children to the third and fourth generations. In other words the sins that the parents are committing will be laid upon their children and their children’s children. Sickness is definitely a curse and it is a sign that we are living in sin and disobeying God and His commands and all you need to do is read Deuteronomy 28:58-61 and it will certainly prove my point. “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE Lord YOUR GOD, then the LORD will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues-great and prolonged plagues-and serious and prolonged sicknesses. Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the LORD bring upon you until you are destroyed.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭28:58-61‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ So if you are someone who can still sin and you are someone who can still get sick then you certainly are deceived and you are not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you in your life since you clearly did not understand how to test the Spirits as commanded in 1 John 4:1-6. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭4:1-3 NKJV‬‬

Before my son was born I spent alot time thinking about what to name him after looking through the Bible and researching the meaning of names I settled on Matthew as he would be my gift of God. God called my gift home in 2007 after a accident where he and a friend were killed. I struggled with that for a long time spiritually. Why would God give me such a gift and then take it back? My faith wavered and I was a bitter man. Recently I saw the episode of the Chosen about Matthew and it moved me to tears. It touched me so deeply. It has helped me to remember that God gave me such a precious gift in my son and I am so thankful for that gift even if it was for a short 24 years. One day I will see my Matthew again and I will hug him so long and hard. God is great and my spirit has been redeemed.
