I liked you bringing Pete on. I have been checking out his channel for a short while and enjoy what he does and being a rock and roll and metal and over all like of genres of music and artists I have liked and music lover. And dabbling with my guitar over the years and writing songs and projects I had. And the collecting albums a bunch I have over the years. Even if had to thin out for space later here in life, but still having what I will listen to and all that. Getting into and seeing the concerts back then and if we get to during the times we are in again to see shows like we did. It is all so stimulating to be engaged when we all need it. Found the communities that many should seek in with like me and others. To be a part of it and have some way of people that you can relate to. Thanks. Happy Easter. 🎶🎸🎤🎹👍☮💯

I discovered Pete's videos on here about April 2020 as we went into lockdown. I was looking after my elderly father as well so SoT helped to take my mind off what was happening. Then Dad got sick (it wasn't COVID-19) and he died in June. I am not going to say that Pete saved my life, of course he didn't, but watching his channel certainly helped me through a crappy time. And he will be pleased to know that he turned me on to some music that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise. Keep up the good work, Pete. You deserve your success but we do need to talk about the order you ranked the Steely Dan albums. LOL!!

Great interview. Pete's the best. Been watching his channel for a few years now. It's great to see lots of people who enjoy music and get and fanatical about it as much as I do. Having to know everything about a band, an album, a song etc. Back in the pre-internet days I remember how hard it was finding info on the bands I liked or was trying to get into. Especially bands that weren't current. You had to find different magazines, books or someone like a friend's older brother who had a bunch of older rock magazine or could tell you their experiences seeing a band live or whatever. I tell my son all the time how much different it was back in our day to get music and to find out how many albums a band had and what order they came out. One of the only ways to tell was to go to several record stores and look at the dates on the back of the cover. Also getting music could be a major task. I remember I absolutely HAD to have a copy of Yessongs back in high school in the 80's. Scrapping and saving washing dishes at the local Elk's lodge then getting on my bike and riding for 4 miles in the rain to the only store that had it. Hoping they still had it when I got there. Then trying to keep it dry on the way back home. It made you appreciate the music more I think and also get more pissed when an album lets you down. Anyway, keep the the good work guys I'll be watching!

Thanks and great comment!...I feel that because one had to work so much harder to get information about bands or even to find their music it made it all the more special. I was like you and would save my pennies for weeks to buy a new tape and it made me appreciate what I had more.

Great interview. I am the same age as Pardo , his journey in music is similar in many ways to mine. The liner notes were always the gateway into my obsession with my favorite bands. We would sit in a friends room, hanging out , listening to albums and the album jacket was always analyzed and discussed. That was a regular practice especially when lyrics were printed somewhere. I would sometimes memorize who played on what and make mental notes of musicians who would guest spot or show up outside of their main gig.

Thank you John! Informative talk with Pete and great to turn the tables and interview the interviewer. Pete is the man who works seemingly tirelessly and SOT is by far my favorite site because I am ultimately a reasonably hard-core fan of many of the same bands and genres, including monster movies, and I am turned on by exactly the same things that fascinate Pete where the details are important. You guys and everyone that contributes are my people! Music moves me more than any other art form. The community the SOT forum provides is moving as well and often it’s the differences of opinion, sometimes subtle differences, that make it interesting. Yes, it’s hard to remember before the internet but by god we have it sooo good now! This last year I dealt with deaths of a friend and a parent and a pandemic from hell but SOT was there for me when I needed it. Just subscribed to your site, keep up the good work!

I cant fully remember when I first found Pete's channel - it must have been sometime before Christmas 2019 when he was doing his album battles. That then led me to discover other channels, including yours, discussing the music I grew up with and occasionally pointing me other great stuff to find out about. Back in the day in the UK ( I'm talking after 1974 ish) I relied on weekly music papers like Sounds and Melody Maker to find out what was going on, as well as radio shows like Alan Freeman's Saturday rock show and Tommy VAnce's Friday Rock Show. Then in 1981 Kerrang launched and then over the years various other magaznes have launched and then folded - I remember buying a few editions of Progression Magazine during the 90's and then I joined a group called the Classic Rock Society that put on local gigs and had a monthly newsletter that became a magazine. It wasnt until around the eary 2000's that I started to discover more sites on the internet, and while I joined in on various forums discussing both prog and heavy rock for various reasons I never got into My Space and then Facebook, though did use to watch KZbin videos of live bands and hard to get deleted or out of print albums which in time drew me to find sites like Sea of Tranquility and yours and which I now wouldnt do without. I'll not add comments to every video posted but if its about a band or artist I like and I think I've something to add to the conversation I probably will - even if its just to say - yeah great album/band etc...

Back in the day (the 80s) i would go to my local record store and have to listen to an album through headphones to get a taste , everything is so much more accessible now which is a good thing. Sometimes as we all probably have, would just purchase an album because of the cover art or label without listening to it at all , which was fun too. Anyway....great episode John...Power on mate.

That's what attracted me to SOT from the very beginning. I've always had an exhaustive personality. Want to have every album I like by every band I like. Read all the notes inside the cd's, get the track listing memorized, find out what songs make it to the setlist, find out who played on every album and how long that lineup lasted, etc. Keeps us interesting and separates us from the casual fan.

Brilliant. Excellent video and interview. During lockdown Pete has become my go to channel. Because of him I now own box sets of Blue Oyster Cult, UFO, Budgie, Yes and a few others like Uriah Heep for example. He has cost me a small fortune, but its been worth it lol. I'm 48 now and have always been a hard rock/prog/metal head, but aside from the obvious ones I sort of never explored the above bands I mentioned for some reason. Was aware of them but just didn't bother. Don't know why really. But Pete has changed all that for me. Never to late to learn right? Plus I am an obsessive just like him when it comes to music, film and comics. Anyway, thanks for this and now you have a new sub here from England. Where all the best bands came from anyway ;). Take it easy brother and keep it up. We need more people like you and Pete to keep the fires burning for us rockers.

Love your channel(s) John & Pete! Just like Pete, my 1st introduction to KISS was the Alive! album. I remember Lisa Harris bringing that into the 4th grade & people gathering around her desk. The face paint, the outfits, the stage presence, all just blew me away. Then the gatefold sleeve with the handwritten letters from the members & booklet photos. I begged my parents for that LP & received it Christmas morning! Pete is 54 like me, but his story is a bit different since the Alive! album was sold out & he purchased Destroyer instead. Great times, great memories...

"I like Sea of Tranquility for the Hudson Valley Squares the topics,the artists and their albums etc,listening and watching the various regulars from those of the HVS, the other shows with Martin Popoff,the other contributors and listening to the thoughts on bands,albums,concerts, the spin offs such as the Monsters Den & Comic Book Geezers, even Rock Fantasy with Steve Keeler.... whether it is about Heavy Metal,Hard Rock,Progressive Rock, the different genres and sub genres,on the HVS i like listening to Pete,Steve,Chris,Ryan,Lynn,Butch,Nick,Sydney and who pops up as special guests,because intoday's world music,films,TV shows, and comic books aren't the same anymore and I like listening and watching, keep it going and thanks."-📻🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎧🎙💻....

Amazing discussion! Concerning the 90s I too found myself distant from metal and more into jazz and fusion. Looking back, maybe a key factor was that my top two bands, Iron Maiden and Metallica, after their incredible Seventh Son and Justice, put out very different albums which were kind of a step down. I dont blame them. Black is the best selling Metallica album and Bring Your Daughter was Maiden's first No 1 single. What would happen if these two bands (and others) continued to put out fantastic metal albums ignoring the trends of the day? Would we have stayed?
@LairoftheAlchemist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!...I had the same experience and often wondered myself if my favorite bands like Maiden and Priest had stayed the course more would I not have drifted away, maybe...but I think I was also getting a bit burned out so maybe i needed a change.

@@LairoftheAlchemist indeed, fatigue was also a factor and a break was necessary! However, it was our favorite bands' string of bad decisions that prolonged the break. After Black, Load and Reload... After No Prayer and Fear of the Dark, Bruce leaves the band... Why so many bad moves one after the other? If they came back to form after 2, 3 even 4 years maybe we would also come back earlier 😊 Motorhead, on the other hand, stayed true to their art till the end!
