lp.constantcontactpages.com/s... Interview Clip #2- The Real Story Behind Firefalls Hit “Cinderella” With Larry Burnett
July 21, 2019 - Firefall had two main singer/songwriter Rick Roberts who came from the Flying Burrito Brothers and our special guest Larry Burnett. The pair split up the tunes on most of their first five albums. Burnett and Roberts left the band in the early '80s. There have been a few reunions with Firefall and now both singer/songwriters are doing some reunion shows with their own band which includes Don Chapman all this year.
I told Burnett that his Firefall hit “Cinderella” was the third biggest streaming song on Spotify for the band after “Just Remember I Love You” and their biggest “You Are the Woman.”
Check the description of this video for the concert dates for Larry Burnett and Rick Roberts - a real Firefall singer/songwriter show. We will have more from Larry Burnett next Sunday. Go to LarryBurnett.com - by John Beaudin

I know this song well, too well. The father of my son used to call me Cinderella because when I was with him I was cleaning houses for a living and he said I looked like Cinderella. I became pregnant with his son and we were together until my son was 3 but just like the song says, I should have left sooner because his only love in life was drugs. He was incapable of loving a child or a woman so, I did take our son and I left and he just continued down the destructive path he was on. I raised our son completely on my own, no child support and no contact from his father. My son is 21 now and nothing like the man his father was and is, but when I hear this song every word of it still pierces my soul. Pretty hard to imagine a 16 year old writing this song!

I love the little guitar bridge just before the last verse (after the Whoa-Nos). Its just about 7 seconds of music that drives home the emotion of the song and always gives me chills.

Strange Way is my favorite by them, especially that flute/drum outro.

I love Firefall, but "Cinderella" is by far the best composition and recording they have in their entire catalog, and it isn't even close. I consider it royalty in the music world. I only wish there were videos of the group during that time. It wasn't until "Strange Way" in 1978 when Atlantic finally had them create a promo music video for one of their songs, "Strange Way". Good luck finding video footage of the group playing before that song.

Let me tell you...I absolutely love Firefall since I was 14 and my older brother brought that album home and played Cinderella...in fact, i became a huge fan of all the Albums. The radio hits...you are the woman and the other you named were in my opinion the least best to me. Firefall didn't write a bad song. My eldest brother plays guitar and I sing. We love to do sad Ole love song and piece of paper...I saw Firefall as the back up band for Heart in Jacksonville FL. I seen alot of concerts...But this concert the best...Heart was amazing...Thank you Firefall for all these Awesome songs 🎵 👏...Unbelievable you wrote Cinderella at 16...But seems we matured faster back then...lol

I've always loved this song and thought it was Firefall's best. I played it for a girlfriend once though and she went ballistic on me lol. She said "he knocked her up and then kicked her out!" 😂 Fortunately the next track was "You Are The Woman" and she said oh I like this one. I never gave alot of thought to the lyrics to Cinderella but she sure as hell did lol. Oh well, it's still a very pretty song and all the more impressive considering Larry wrote it when he was 16.

I may have gone to elementary school with Firefall's Larry Burnett. I have seen his date of birth as November 1951 and that he graduated from a high school in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC. My elementary school was in a Maryland suburb of DC. Kids born in the month in which he was born would have been a grade ahead of me. There was a boy a year ahead of me named Larry Burnett whose mother worked in the Pentagon, which is in Virginia just outside of DC. If this was the same Larry Burnett, perhaps his family moved to Virginia to be closer to her workplace eventually. I didn't continue into high school with my elementary school contemporaries because my family had also moved by then (but not to Virginia). So I don't know if the Larry Burnett I knew graduated from the high school I would have attended and thus would not have been the one in Firefall. One more thing - the Larry Burnett at my school, even at the age of 11, had the tall, lanky build of the Larry Burnett in Firefall.

I heard Larry and Mark Greenhouse play this at the Iguana Coffee House in Washington in 1971 or 1972. The 14th St. hookers came in when the police were busting folks outside. Larry and Mark were an acoustic guitar duo that called themselves "The Heavy Metal Kids". These two were great! I still have memories of a cover of Bluebird and another great Larry original about addiction that still needs to be recorded if it hasn't been. These guys had great chops and a really gritty vibe.

High school talent........ Burnett wrote "Cinderella", Greg Lake wrote "Lucky Man" and Freddie Mercury wrote "Bohemian Rhapsody", all while still in high school. I'm sure there must be dozens of other examples as well.
