@verticalsmurf I can't say I have read all of his books as well as the reward of meeting him. Lucky you. I am well aware of the modern issues surrounding tribal traditions, especially with regards to feathering. While it is a shame that Flannery doesn't appear to acknowledge this (on your account), I would like to believe that he is busy fighting for other causes and hasn't had the 'time' to work on everything in between. Considering his history with Papua New Guinea though, this seems strange.

@Galaxy360 I've watched his clips, I've read his books. I've met him. He is a great man for his causes, but like anyone on a mission, other things get trampled on the way. He is a mammal and climate orientated person. He fails to mention that most of the Birds of Paradise are endangered or critical on the endangered list because the Papua New Gineans think the birds feathers look good on their head. It takes hundreds of birds to make one head-dress. If you don't believe me, look it up.

So, you are a Tim Flannery fan, too. He's a terrific biologist and presenter of science. Two of my favourite books of his are "The Future Eaters" and "The Eternal Frontier." Thanks for posting this clip of him.

@Galaxy360 I wouldn't say meeting him was a reward. I didn't even know who he was (he wasn't a well known author then). I read his books years later. I admire his passion, I don't necessarily agree with him on everything he says. I wish more people were as passionate and vocal about nature as Tim is. Why he doesn't mention anything to do with the decreasing numbers of birds of paradise because of PNG tribal life is beyond me.

This is the guy who believed climate change would cause the sea level to rise TWENTY FIVE METERS by 2017, so reputation somewhat tarnished. I would read other books on climate change if I were you.

Do any of you twerps even know who Tim Flannery is ? Don't comment unless you actually bothered to watch the video. Flannery is a great man, unfortunately there are not as many as there should be like him who understand and acknowledge the true severity of climate change.
