Thanks for putting this up, it is nice to hear a different view on climate change and what could happen. It is a shame people doubt the power of humanity when we work together particularly if we all have a common goal.

Make no mistake, Tim Flannery has a brilliant mind and is one of the best science educators in the world today. If you pick up any one of his last three books, unless you are a practitioner in this field, you will learn something new on each page.

@McTaggstar there are too many questions to say that there is a god. but when i see people talking logic it makes more sense to me rather than a book. so for now im going with science for the reason of logic

13.5 billion years has been upgraded every time we have upgraded our instriments. I believe our universe is far more older than 13 or so billion years. The barrier to knowing the future is to repeat the past, I propose that we are far below the intelligence that spawned us from their dieing world some 44 billion years ago, but we just can't see that far yet.

that's what I'm saying ... you can have the operation of the creative process AND the sovereign command of a God over that creation. In fact that is what we have, what we know, today! Good luck on your quest to find the golden fleece, I hope He makes you rich.

@derallter it s true that in medieval time the catolic chuch left ppl blind to knoledge, however, it more logical to blame the corruption inside the roman catholic instituion then the catolic faith since in theory it doesnt aprove any of the things that happened.

If we are to survive we better start being proper stewards of this planet and realistically start thinking of colonization space and soon. The fact is all our eggs are in one basket and we will suffer the same fate as the dinosaurs if we don't use our brains and technology to save our species.

@gblueslover2 where so advancing so rapidly, to think the pyramids were supposedly built 2500yrs ago .... ( although theres evidence of water corosion on the sphinx that would date back to 12.000yrs ago, also tunnel alignment with the stars in the pyramids that would date back to 12.500yrs ago ) ..... with the knowledge n wizdom n craft we caunt repicate now. would suggest 2 me there was an ancient highly developed lost civilization many 1000s of yrs ago, likely ATLANTIANS,

Flannery's a bit over-enthusiastic about us escaping the Malthusian curve. The tech system allowing 7 billion people is completely unusable without oil & synthetic materials derived from it. The only true "command and control" systems in nature that last are the ones hardwired in by speciation ie ants and termites. Any semblace of C&C in primate social groups is imposed and fleeting. For humanity to be a C&C species is to re-engineer us into queens, workers, and drones without free will.

Robb9096: Because the theory of evolution shows, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that no deity is required for life to have come about. It all happened by purely natural processes. Therefore, if we do not need to invoke a deity to explain the origins of life ... therefore there is no reason to believe. right. the rest of us have chosen to invoke to God to ... well, to resurrect, and He has! We who believe now live in that reality. I live in the reality of His resurection, the hope of such ...

@Static172 No that is not what ppl who believe in God will say. Do not presume. Your comment is predicated only by your poorly conceived presumptions. Which then perpetuates your beliefs, which feeds the confirmation bias, which... etc etc. The ignorant one is you. And I don't mean that as an insult. I'm choosing the word ignorant to delineate your lack of knowledge in this matter. I don't mean it in the cliche and ostensibly offensive context.

Why does faith in Darwin's theory atomatically nulify faith and hope in a sovereign God? Listen to me: God said, "Let there be Darwinism and evolution," and there was light! My faith is stronger than your indecision; and God is here whether you believe or not!
