I live in the UK and my hobby is metal detecting and I love coins. I still own every coin and artefact I have found over the last 40 years. The knowledge that I have gained through finding coins of every era from the UK is invaluable to me. I wouldn't go as far as to say I am an expert but I no enough to identify most coins issued for circulation. 😊.

My brother and I inherited my father's coin collection when he passed away in 2003. He started collecting coins as a child after he was given a silver dollar by Martha Raye and Dick Powell when they were in Milwaukee promoting a movie in the 1930's. They purchased a newspaper from him and both gave him a silver dollar. Great video, thank you for posting it.

Dimes are what you want for barterability....... your common man won't be able to afford the bars. The bars will be used as house payments or for large purchases like land, cars, etc....... I am buying a lot of dimes and halves currently to round out my personal stuff. Great vid Speg!

@Blake I have eagles, bar's, morgans, etc..... I like halves/dimes due to their fraction of an oz. I buy the constitutional because it's recognizable by even non stackers. I wouldn't fill your house with it or anything, but if we ever do have a currency crisis, dimes will be good for everyday staples like bread, vegetables, etc. I look at each silver half I have as 2 chicken breasts stacked up. approx $6 dollars. The value of these halves keeps up with inflation over the long run. 1st rule is to try and get a month worth of expenses in hard currency and cash. Then 6 months, then a year. Now you are financially secure and can start to gamble in paper.

I just want to say this video concept was absolutely genius! It's one thing to watch self-proclaimed coin guy on KZbin tell me what to look for but this was so interesting to me because it opened up so many doors. Great video and great coin shop. I've never seen so much variety in just one store. I live much too far away to visit Coin Guy, but I could walk around his place and just look for an hour, and I would love to go through his bargain box. In addition to his broad base of knowledge, I always have to respect a coin dealer who carries a firearm in his store. On that note Speg, go by your local library and check out the 1987 movie "The Untouchables" with Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, and Robert DeNiro to get an entertaining education on Elliott Ness. You'll enjoy it a lot more than just reading a blurb on Wikipedia.

@@Spegtacular I suggested the library because most nowadays allow you to check out movies for up to a week (just watch out for the overdue fees), also many of them link to other libraries so that they can loan materials to one another if a requested item is not available locally. Of course, if you can find the movie on demand for free from your TV provider, that's even better, but they don't always have the older movies in their lineup.

Great interview, SpegTacular! You picked a superb subject and skillfully picked his brain. It would be great to see the two of you star in a series of videos about coin collecting. Examples: Getting started in collecting, spotting fakes, Morgan dollars, modern silver coins, etc. I think that collaboration would be great for both of you as well as your fans/ audience.

Stephen wants more!! lol thanks for the support. I’m always trying to give people education and entertainment through what I do. It’s nice when I can get an expert in the field to talk about coins and precious metals. I understand that sometimes it’s difficult for people to trust a pair of taking hands on the Internet. It’s also why I feel these types of collaborations are important for viewers... so they get more assurance that they’re doing the right thing with their money.
