Thank you for this insightful conversation. I’m so glad the KZbin algorithms showed me this video / channel. I arrived here having watched some of Ihsan’s content on Sufism. I am entering (for the last 20 years) via the Daoist vehicle/ practice, one could say, and coming to see the mystic root / source of all these ‘religions’. Let us not forget the Daoist path of cultivating stillness and the inner-work. It was a beautiful surprise to me to find a perfect description (instruction) of that process but from the Sufi, Kabir: still the body still the mind still the voice inside in the silence feel the stillness move

Thank you for this conversation. It came up in my feed when I needed it on a spiritual level. I can feel the quiet right now. I will definitely check out his channel on Sufism as well. I love how Universal lessons are at the heart of our traditions. Encountering the Divine isn't something that comes from us, but from the relationship between the inner and outer. The Soul/Presence of God seems to be experienced in a Unity between the Transcendence and Immanence. This could be focused on in an intellectual way to its limit, but yet people in different positions/levels of seeking may pick out specific ideas of codification and have a compulsion to take an egotistical/vanity/elitist inclination without realizing “the universal can be found in the particular” as you said, Zevi. ❤️🙏

It gives me great joy to see a Muslim and a Jew have such a deep wonderful conversation, it gives me hope for humanity and for that I give glory to God. It also encourages me in my own spiritual practice. As one seeker to another, may I ask, what is your thoughts on mixing different mystical paths? Or rather what is your thoughts on using different aspects of different traditions in personal practice?

☺️ So glad to be a vessel for that joy, hope and encouragement. Thank You to the One who seduces the formless into form. That’s a really great question. As a fellow seeker I have the same question and don’t have any hard and fast answers to be broadly applied. I think we each need to ask ourselves with questions like these, what will bring us closer to God, closer to love, to kindness, humility, service and respect and what will bring the world closer to redemption and salvation. With love, Zevi

So many fine points discussed - light, love, beauty, peace, unity amongst Christians, Judaism and Islam, humility and self denial yet being willing to share and do what needs to be done for the benefit of others. Though we may be different in some ways - I am believer in Christ as the Son of God, and i believe the eventually recognized Jewish Messiah - there are so many universal truths that we share in common and can be a strong link toward a common peaceful brotherhood.

Ihsan, when you're talking about your journey into Sufi mysticism I can intellectually related to and conceive of your religious paradigm, but there's a certain point 19:04 when you start speaking about clarity, that it started sounding shockingly like the Satsang of meditation thats so familiar, the same Satsang of the Sant Mat DLM Gurus, and the Mahatmas that I was raised with; the Satsang of my renunciate devotee dad, or, Mahatma Pardarthanon. Im not trying to slander or cast meditation in a negative light, I use the metaphors I'm about to only in the sense of drive, and real effect; its like I can see the meditation/enlightenment-"jonesing" in you, like in them, when you talk about presence of mind, and awareness. Guru Maharaji, speaking as the teacher of the meditation to his devotees, used to say "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink," but you can "salt their food!" This to be a reference to how salty and dead "unfocused" "unpressent" "confused" consciousness/life is like without doing the meditation (as if it were "true level" and once felt, all normal off-level reality is "wrong" by comparison - to use a "rick & morty" reference). Still, I don't know one of them that would trade the experience of meditation and the knowledge of practicing it for anything. While speaking as a physicalist rationalist, I context this with psychology terms like "Flow States" or "Self-Actualization".

Great conversation. As a Catholic that practices in the Byzantine tradition and who has studied philosophy and theology, I wonder if he could comment on the role that philosophy played or plays in the development of Islamic or even Jewish theology. In Catholicism, the philosophical elements of neo-Platonism are particularly evident in mysticism and of course, Aristotle heavily influenced Aquinas. I know that the Muslim philosophers Avicenna and Averroes were highly influential in the diffusion of Greek philosophy in the Middle Ages. So I wonder what role philosophy plays in Islamic theology or philosophy?

As someone who came from an Orthodox Christian background I find it very difficult to embrace different perspectives of God. This was a helpful reminder that people at different stages need to think about God in different ways. I remember Vivekananda talking about that as well, and, of course, his teacher Ramakrishna: "When I think of the Supreme Being as inactive - neither creating nor preserving nor destroying -, I call Him Brahman or Purusha, the Impersonal God. When I think of Him as active - creating, preserving, and destroying -, I call Him Śakti or Māyā or Prakriti, the Personal God. But the distinction between them does not mean a difference. The Personal and the Impersonal are the same thing, like milk and its whiteness, the diamond and its lustre, the snake and its wriggling motion. It is impossible to conceive of the one without the other. The Divine Mother and Brahman are one."

Both the letter of law and the spirit of the law is incredibly important. We are individuals, differents thing motivate us to worship and belief, and to do good. I am hanafi school but do dhikr allot, in the night particular, wake up for tajjud prayer but then do dhikr and reflecting on life and Allah swt, how He works and my holding myself account, to connect to Allah swt, it calms my heart and soul. Working on my character. Specially being a woman, it calms and sooth my emotional state, it helps me disciplining my heart and nafs, so I am less reactive to events. Its helped me allot alhamdullah. I do feel I attained sakinah tranquility in my heart and soul, its a feeling beyond words.... fullness, complete satisfaction. Its gotten me through soo much, I feel like I am in debt to Allah swt because of it, I will never be able to repay Him (swt) for it, even in the chaos of life, in the back of my mind I feel everything is going to ok, I have Allah swt, I have everything, I will in His loving embrace at the end of the day, I am in safest of hands...

I so wished that a christian brother was present in this show of love and our real ancestorial tradition...call it pereniallism unity togetherness or whatever but I beleive we need to invent a term that describes the sadiqeen within Judaism christianity islam which is relevant to modern people. I beleive the word title MUSLIM was all encompassing the practioners of all three abrahamic faiths in time of the prophet...but ignorant new muslims couldn't grasp the concept I also beleive the HAJJ was for all three abrahamic faiths...so you newer generation should compose a word which means and implies to those who beleive in their own tradition and also the realities in the other abrahamic traditions.

Something that baffles me is how on earth people can be so eloquent when they talk about the "divine love" and yet don't see their own contradictions when they see this love in "some" humans to the detriment of others. I have seen this man's videos defending Andrew Tate. I have heard that allegedly peaceful talk about not judging the man because "God knows best". But all it does in practice is giving the benefit of the doubt to some humans in detriment to others. The victims rarely receive the benefit of the doubt from these people. It's all love and all until people suffer from your complacency. At this point I am becoming more and more convinced that the only way to grow as humans is confrontation. Only when being confronted by those who challenge our views we can see through our own b*llshit and all the nice talk and words about "the divine love" can actually become sincere... Just like Jesus did in the Gospels: he was love but he was no peace for sure.

I've never personally held the belief as a Christian that Muhammad was not a prophet like, yes hof course! He brought about the faith to millions. Nor that we are really of a different faith, no we are truly one. The primary dividing point between Christians and other faiths in Almighty God is the divinity of Christ, which to us is so essential to our faith. To that point the belief is not that the Father and Son are honestly separate but one. It made me think of an earlier comment wherein there is the active God and the Higher spirit of God, which is where Christians say the Father Son and Holy Spirit; wherein they are one in the Higher Spirit that is God, which is One. Or if you consider the Matron figure in some beliefs, the Father, Mother, and Son, as One with the Spirit. As to the destruction of "self" there are traditions in mysticism of the death and rebirth of the ego. I see this not as destroying it but separating it from the shadow of the mind and remolding is as a servant of the Divine and of your spiritual self.
@SeekersofUnity4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that comment. There's a lot to digest there. I deeply appreciate your theological creativity. It's high time for some of that.
