Alexander Arguelles is quite possibly the greatest living polyglot of our time. Some type of collaboration between him and Glossika would be amazing.

I protest to the word "possibly." The professor has really set the bar for language learning as a discipline.
@noname896364 жыл бұрын
He does not get talked about a lot or at all in the linguist community. People only focus on the KZbinrs who are "polyglots." He is one of the greatest brains of all time in my opinion. I am only fluent in Arabic, Polish, and Mandarin. I feel my brain is full lol. I am stopping for now because I want to maintain these to C1 levels and I am happy with this list.

We all have different goals. I'm American and I have a great affinity for France. If I'm fortunate to have kids I'd like to pass French on to them so they can have a more varied life they can enjoy and maybe even have a second country to call home. The best thing for an accomplished person to do is pass on the knowledge to people. I haven't watched a video of Argüelles in a while. Good to see he's still doing well. Respect.

Good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

I work as a Russian teacher, and for the most part I teach students whose native languages don't belong to the Slavic family. And I totally agree that consistency is a KEY, and I can't stress it enough. So many students fail because being inexperienced they set unrealistic goals. I would just say that if you are an English speaker you need at least 30 min a day. Of course it depends on the student. But even if you are good at learning foreign languages, but you haven't studied any Slavic language before, I would say, that 30 min is a threshold where progress begins. And don't be afraid to experiment and try different time-blocks. A positive habit is very important. Considering the fact that you need approximately 100 hours in order to reach the A1 level according to TORFL, if you study 30 min a day you can get there in about 2 month with a condition that you study right materials.

I am interested in learning Russian what advice can you give me and what online resources?
@russianwithevgeniy4 жыл бұрын
@@JA-jh5gr 1) If you haven't studied Slavic languages before, I'd advise taking lessons with a teacher, who could guide you. If you can't have lessons often, take lessons at least once a week, so he/she can supervise you. 2) Learn the rules of reading and pronunciation properly from the very beginning. 3) Use Russian teaxtbook whcih meet TORFL standards (foreign textbook in most cases teach simplified and strictly speaking wrong pronunciation ignoring the rules of reading. I am talking about some famous publishing houses even. ) as for online resourses, you can find online let's say Russian in exercises by Havronina - A1-A2 grammar. An excellent book. You can use Russian RT course, which was written by moscow professors. You can use Ilya Frank as an additional source of input. (just use it with audio). There is a very good A1 book for reading Шкатулочка, unfortunatelly it doesn't have audio. Check my channel as well ;)

I would say that the time doesn't really matter if your method is crap.Using a good effective method and 30-60 mins is ideal.Some people study for years and more than 1 hr per day but next reach good levels of fluency.

It's very typical for all those self-proclaimed polyglots not to communicate in any other language but English. They know exactly well that they are unable to have an intelligent and grammatically correct conversation in any of the languages they claim to know.

I'd like to know why the good professor insists on a *physical* location. The institute he envisions would hardly serve anyone and would exclude most of the willing.

Because he is distanced from the technological changes to people’s lifestyles, I think. Also a form of sexism, kind of, where he’s clearly moving around the world pursuing his career and has a wife that just comes with him.
