Interview with Conchita Wurst - Austria 2014

The Austrian public broadcaster ORF has confirmed that Conchita Wurst has been internally chosen to represent the Central European country in Copenhagen. The song is yet to be chosen. Conchita Wurst, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, has already participated in the 2012 national final, where she came second.
While the last three representatives of Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest have all been selected in a public national final, ORF have opted for an internal selection procedure for 2014. Today, the singer to represent the "Alpine republic" has been announced.
Conchita Wurst has already once tried to win the ticket to the Eurovision stage, in 2012, when she came second with the song That's What I Am behind Trackshittaz in the Austrian national selection. Previously she had participated in the "Starmania" talent show, where she competed against Nadine Beiler, the Austrian representative in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Calcifer Dimitra they've said in interviews that they are non binary with a female stage persona. It's best to use they/them pronouns when they are off stage and she/her pronouns when they are performing.

someone below asked a question "what kind of message are we sending to our children?". the message is really simple - people are different.... Someone's looks - even if they do not match your taste - do not harm anybody., so let them be. BTW - its worth to listen to what others have to say and base your judgement on that rather than their appearance only. Guys I've looked this up before. This is a man, he's dressed up as a drag queen hence the funny name Wurst is the German for sausage. I married a woman 18 years my senior when I was only 22 years old. My dad is only three weeks older than my wife. We understand blind prejudice at its very core. What you Conchita needs to learn is you can't change opinions overnight. Opening up the way people relate to different types of people and situations takes time. We've now been married 31 years and we're still going strong and acceptance slowly came out way - but it takes time. My bet is you'll find a lot more acceptance by simply living "your" life the same way everyone else does. It's the spotlight that might be hurting your cause more than helping it.

They lose out with their narrow-mindedness and their jealousy. Live your life how you see fit and have no regrets. I'm straight, my best friend of 24 years is gay and he introduced me to gay bars and clubs. Some of the best New Years' parties I have spent surrounded by drag queens and gay people.
