Thank you, EggRoll! I've been playng Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath from the original DVD since it's launch, even installing the official patches and the no-disc patch on my Windows machines.. well now is Machine, singular, only one. The others were moved to Fedora. But I haven't been able to install the game on those machines and even if I bought it (again) on Steam, I'd like to install it directly from the original DVDs, specially my laptom, since Steam needs you to be on-line and, well, I'm not on-line all the time on my laptop. Sadly enough, there are no clear instructions on either Lutris or Heroic to make a fuctioning install and using Bottles is quite too convoluted for my taste. Any idea? Once again, thanks!

I'm probably underestimating how old Compiz is, but I thought it released around 2005, 2006? But if GE was ~13 and he turns 40 this year - was Compiz around in the late 90s? Either way, I found Compiz so incredibly cool when I played around with OpenSUSE in the mid noughties, unfortunately just a bit too buggy for me at the time with so many conflicts I couldn't wrap my head around at the time. I'm glad you can run gnome stuff in KDE now and vice versa, and that audio is kind of "fixed", because oh boy, what a mess.

i'm kinda sick of the over-containerisation, i know its a fundamental problem with Linux and Wine, but i want a single prefix where all my data can be easily found for modding, save file management, storage management, all of that stuff. Bottles is frustrating, Proton is frustrating, they work great if you never have to touch the files, but i am a modder, i am constantly diving in and out, and i hate deeply nested filestructures and settings. I thought Zorin OS's windows support was bad, but after figuring it out, it seems to be the best way to do it for me. i know some fixes will conflict, and some games i will have to play through Proton and use the compatdata folders, but hey, maybe UMU does this better, i don't know yet. from the sounds of it, it sounds like a nightmare, yet another place to find my files.

@@DestinationLinux Ahh. Yeah I've used that one as well and it wasn't bad. The reason I thought it was Spark is because I've seen/heard the same thing with them concerning Linux. 53:30 I REALLY wouldn't say that. It's a rabbit hole on its own but there's currently a semi viral social / internet campaign going on (the #savetf2 one) in regards to valves games being flooded with army's of bots that auto kill and vote kick every human player on the server. The bot creators also done some stuff that got the feds involved. It's legit (not exaggerating nor power phrasing) unplayable. As soon as you'll spawn there'll be like 6 bots headshoting you instantly. They also steal players names and spam racist stuff and very loud sounds in the voice chat and try to sell human players immunity from their bot army's. VAC is truly terrible. It's as efficient as wet cardboard...

Windows updates while playing a PVP game is nothing. Try Windows updates during an emergency shutdown of a server triggered by an uninterruptible power supply running low on battery power during a power outage. Do you know what happens when the batteries that are backing your server infrastructure give out while Windows is trying to update critical system files? It renders the OS completely unbootable, and you have to rebuild the server infrastructure and cost the company a day's worth of production during the down time, and then you have to answer a lot of angry questions from C level staff members about why your emergency power solution failed. I came home that evening and installed Linux on everything that I owned that wasn't a Mac.
