One of the songs I really love his drumming is Child in Time. When Blackmore's guitar solo starts his drumming is totally out of the world. I agree, Paice was one of the best rock drummers.

I had the privilege to watch this man perform live at a Deep Purple concert in 2013 and up close. One of if not the most talented heavy/hard rock drummer of all time, the technique, speed and feel he displays is truly mind-blowing! Deep Purple was a band that truly consisted of world class musicians in their respective fields, a super band by any standard.

I remember hearing Ian play on vinyl and just thinking how the hell does he do this? He has always stood out amongst his peers, his jazz/rock style has always fused so well with a variety of music styles so adaptable I remember meeting him in 1982 at a 'kitchen' in Newcastle and he took the time to sign stuff and was so humble and genuine ....just sublime

The only one of them who has been through every rendition of Purple. Saw him from the front row last year and he still has it. Love how he's so appreciative of everything he has unlike a fair portion of music biz people who demand more. He's also helped produce a few albums and was part of giving Elf and Dio help along with Roger. Much respect and well earned.

a true legend that I've been so lucky to meet personally for one whole day back in 2004 and that confirms in this conversation his vision about becoming a decent drummer by picking something from other different drummers supposed to be better than you and not only that.

why that annoying background music?
@jogmas125 жыл бұрын
Jon Blackers I have no idea why. I stopped listening to this interview at 4:07. I just could not take the background music in my effort of trying to hear Ian’s answers.
@chugger748 жыл бұрын
I will probably catch hell for saying this (I did once before), but among all those great 70's rock/prog rock drummers - Bonzo, Palmer, Bruford, Moon, etc. - I still say Ian had the best technique. You can get a sense of it by how smooth his rolls were/are.
@freeat_last73757 жыл бұрын
no doubt about it..how many kids picked up drum sticks? Ian developed a technique that was signature...brilliant...he came from an era where growing up there was NO rock n roll, and no heavy rock...he was a pioneer...we will never hear drummers play like this anymore because these cats grew up listening to big band music, jazz, R&B and their feel was influenced transitioning to rock

I think the music was put on by the video uploader. My reasons for thinking are, you can see when the video has been edited slightly, but the annoying music does not change, therefore it was added afterwards. Also, I think even a patient well mannered man like Ian Paice would have said something if the music was playing during the interview.

Ian giving simple, friendly tips to what others can unwittingly make complex. A true master of his craft, and still developing his own expertise decades into a world-class career. Jan-Kris, in a world with noise-cancelling headphones, can you apply some post production to remove/reduce the intrusive level of the music in the earlier part of the interview.? Glad you had the chance to spend some time getting a thoroughly rivetting chat, thanks.

The only drawback to this interview is that the music in the background is drowning out the interview, unless there was a very good reason for them not to able to control the music volume, I could understand that, but it is way too loud and most of all annoying.

Try to understand and translate. I can do it, so do you. If you care. kääntäjä.org helps
