This channel is so underrated. I saw this video popping up for weeks in my recommendations, but most sub 1k view content is either promoted or otherwise not worth your time. But damn you algorithm, this was one of the most interesting niche content stuff that perfectly fits one of my specific interests to ever exist.

Thank you so much. Really glad that it engaged you. We love making these episodes and KZbin is still a pretty new platform for us. It's really great to receive comments like this though. All best wishes to you.

I just found this- That was FANTASTIC! Especially that latter half when you're both just talking about the subject and your personal thoughts and notions, brilliant 👏 Can't wait to find more! Thank you 😊

I clicked out after the drift into Trump and January 6th. It's a shame because I'm very interested in the history of the Roman Republic. In fact, I became slightly angry until I noticed that this video was made a year ago. Now, in December 2024, I just smiled.

God preserve us from Uncompromising principal, idealism, austerity, prigishness, narcissism and charisma; they equal disaster. Give us compromise, pragmatism and survival!

Uncompromising as the atmosphere? Would you wish to be separated from a perpetual future? I might be confused though. Are principles not what helps one exist in a community etc? I might assume the prevalence of compromise is our primary issue😅
@AnthonyGentile-z2gАй бұрын
@antoineleedolliole7549 principal is great...within limits. When human beings achieve perfection, principal can rule. Until then, compromise or drag everything down to destruction and rule the ashes with "principal".

This is an elementary account of a very philosophically deep era. This disappointingly skims the surface. A dull stone skipped three or four times on a bottomless lake.

Caesar the narcissistic imperialistic populist, and Cato the fanatically stoic optimate. Talk about dropping a chunk of Caesar's sodium metal into Cato's cheap wine. Bottoms up! If memory serves, Cicero lent two hands to help end the ensuing power struggle.

Caesar was highly driven, but I'd rather say that Pompey gives out the narcissistic vibes. He liked to be surrounded by people who constantly praised him, while Caesar's own legions were known to berate the man, and he took it well. He also surrounded himself with highly capable people, whom narcissists can't stand. Regarding his populism, the Roman Republic was falling apart because of people like Cato. He blocked granting the land to veteran soldiers, because he was greedy and vengeful. The message he sent was that Rome does not take care of her veterans, they can *only* trust their generals. How Cato is a stoic? He was proud beyond his measure and even his death shows that to be true. You'd expect that a stoic person would be level-headed in defeat, pick up the pieces and move forward. Caesar understood the man, so he'd likely forgive him, in order to make his life unbearable. But you can't use that tactic against a genuine stoic. Cicero? That makes sense, but Cato?
