Jason Reed of Inner Edge Music interviewing Mark Burgess of the Chameleons at the Regent Theatre in LA. Hear Mark share his insights about the Manchester scene in the mid 1980’s, the early success of the Chameleons (as well as their dissolution following the tragic death of manager Tony Fletcher). Also, hear the guys talk about a wide variety of topics, including their fascination with the cult 60’s show “The Prisoner,” David Lynch as well as their adoration of Julee Cruise.

Yeah. We were out on our own. Very rebellious. Very crazy. We weren^t part of any scene. We were the Best!... We believed that before we made a record. One day we will be recognised as the original band we were. We had Chemistry! Yeah. We didn^t always agree but to me that was healthy... The Chameleons were. MARK DAVE Reg and the Great JOHN LEVER... The music speaks for itself! ... Yeah we were out of it. Dope. Acid. Speed. Cocaine. Women. XTC.... So what? We worked hard and put our heart and soul into everything we did. We have influenced so many bands that have have way more commercial success but we were all about the music... We all had our own talent that came together in my opinion quite easily. Timeless music. No gig was the same. We strived to make every song different. Great memories. Our fans are the best. They get it. Love to all our fans and John Lever you are so missed. A great guy. Funny. Generous. I doubt Dave Fielding would give an interview nowadays, talking about The Chamaleons. Reg is pretty low profile on that. John Lever left us so there's not anyone else up to filling the position except Mark.

I have spoken to Dave Fielding on many occasions for years, he adores telling stories about The Chameleons, Reg has retired from music and John Lever (RIP) but it is true, The Chameleons were a very influential band for me for over 3 decades now.

I would Love to do interviews but as we know the singer always gets the priority. I disagree with most of The Burgess interviews. They are generally not true. Mostly hypepoie and generally talks shit! Xx

Take heed young bands. Focus on the music and writing and get it out there to producers. Better to make music that will last than image and making it and money. This guy is so solid. I love how his heart is felt in every word he sang. So glad he is still making music too! Good on ya!

Yeah. We never get chance to give our version of the truth. I find it frustrating that people believe everything they read and it,s not really like that. We are partly to blame cos we never wanted to do interviews but in retrospect I wish we had. John was very funny. Reg used to give silly answers I.e. #what are your ambitions?and Reg would answer #to find the Yeti and then lost Ness monster#... John was hilarious. Mark can talk a glass eye to sleep! Don^t always believe what you read and hear...xx
