I'm so grateful this movie has been made - it needs to be promoted around the world to inform the world of what can happen when people don't stand up, when they "go along" and when religious groups have such power. Absolute Power absolutely corrupts.
@awopbopaloobopawopbamboom50412 ай бұрын
Too bloody right - the phrase is "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely!!" by the way - and the subject matter of the story of this movie everywhere - BUT ESPECIALLY IN IRELAND (Where my own great-aunt was a victim of the magdeline laundries herself; as was her baby, my cousin Dermot, whom was taken from her....!!!) It's got a very sinister, still quite evil grip in this small country.... Some of the details would make your skin crawls...,!!! She only reunited with him in her late eighties, after thinking about him every single day even after she married her beau and they went on to have his two sisters - although sadly he missed his father by three and a half decades, tragically....!! And even more sad than that, her little boy had become a doctor - and three months after they reunited face to face, she was diagnosed with terminal Cancer and died months later....!!! And of course my cousin now wonders whether if he'd reunited face to face (the authorities here STILL keep tight control of the process - they knew both parties were looking for each other, stalled them both by claiming to not have the records etc for quite a long time, until she was in her late eighties and he was in his 60's; and then all of a sudden because neither of them would let it drop - which I'm sure the agency was hoping they just would; actively fvcking around in literally THE MOST PRECIOUS AND PRIVATE PARTS OF PEOPLE'S LIVES like they haven't already done more than enough damage; it's disgusting and despicable.....!!!! - they finally relented..... But only to the extent whereby the agency agreed to pass letters between them and demanded that they do that for a long duration of time, to be determined by the agency and outright refusing point blank to give them each other's details, even though BOTH had asked for and given their permission for that to be done.....!?! They made them pass letters through the agency for 2 and a half years, WHILE SHE WAS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO NINETY, and it took them both threatening legal action AND her being diagnosed with Advanced Liver Cancer (very soon to be terminal, unfortunately....!!!) for the agency authorities to finally relent and pass on their full personal details to each other so that they could finally meet..... And obviously, him being a very qualified doctor, he wonders if they hadn't been messed about so much by the agency she might have paid more attention to her symptoms than she was (because most of her energy was spent trying to fight to see her son who they literally stole all those years before...!!) and if he'd been around her, he'd definitely have noticed her symptoms - probably in time for them to still be able to do something about it - I realize that she was old, but aside from that very fit and healthy; longevity runs in our family on that side, with most of them living to around one hundred years of age, give or take a few months depending on the individual...!!! *Still, at least they didn't murder him and bury him in a septic tank, like hundreds of the other completely innocent small babies....!! Do, Thank God for small mercies, I think....!?!*

Thank you for bringing it all to light because it was hidden for so many years and was denied to have ever happened as well. Hopefully this will bring some sort of justice to those whom will probably never receive anything from the church and the nuns who ran the hell holes. In my situation of being a single mother I would have been in this situation. Thank god i never had to be.

Sinead Oconnor spent time in one of these - but she wasn't in a laundry. The elderly ladies who were part of the laundry were housed in a space without assistance. She learned of them when punished and she had to sleep on their bedroom floor in the dark. She heard them moaning and asking for water, but no one ever came to help them.

‘Oppenheimer’ vs. ‘The Nun’. The contemplative life terrifies us more than ‘Art the Clown’. I don’t know if I could sit through a film about a fictional coal trader, who carries ‘a poor me’ look in his eyes wherever he goes, and a fictional religious drawn straight from ‘Dynasty’, who have a fictional conflict over fictional events…The lengths we go to! Who would ever say "your toast is getting cold?"
