Jay Aston is always a joy to listen to in interviews! I remember the third single `One of Those Nights` when it was released and was featured on Radio 1`s new singles of the week show `Round Table` which was aired on a Friday. There would be various singers as guests on the panel to give their opinions. The DJ at the time (might have been Mike Read but not sure?)didn`t tell the panel who the band was and just played the single. It went down well and afterwards when the DJ told them it was Bucks Fizz it surprised them all that such a good and mature sound came from the group who not long since had done Eurovision! Mike Nolan leaving will really be the end of an era. As well as the Bucks Fizz albums he has of course sung on the four albums recorded by The Fizz which have been fantastic. We have been so lucky to have and enjoy this renaissance. So lucky and so good have these albums been that I have actually forgiven Mike Stock for his work with Stock, Aitken and Waterman! Never thought I`d hear myself say that. Getting a ticket for Jay`s summer garden party would be even better than finding a golden ticket for Willy Wonka`s Chocolate Factory! Hope it goes well!

Another great interview from you lovely ladies…keep up the good work. A relevant anecdote. One early evening in late 1981 I met my pal, the great lyricist, Pete Sinfield in the Churchill Arms in Kensington Church St. On arrival Pete was sat on a corner table wearing a Sony Walkman with a notepad and pen. As I sat down with my beer he gave me the headphones and said “ Listen to this, it’s great and I’m just writing the lyric for it” . Sure enough the backing track sounded fabulous and upbeat with a contemporary production and some great playing. I was very impressed. “It’s the next Bucks Fizz single” he said to my utter surprise. He then showed me a load of couplets that he had jotted down including “ Captain Kidd’s on the sand, with the treasure close at hand”, which I thought was great and have always remembered that. Just a few weeks later Land of Make Believe would be No.1 .
