i went back and watched this episode again. the burning church scene....that's a vampire wedding! i didn't realize it at first, but it seriously is. when louis agrees, he is saying: yes, i do. and louis' transformation and first hunt is a metaphor for a virginal wedding night. this show....it's everything i didn't know i needed.

I think this too. Lestat’ makes vows to Louis. Louis agrees. There is a kiss. There is an exchange of love tokens (blood instead of rings). All of this happens at the altar.

Regarding Lestat's murder of Ms Lilly...in the church he spoke sarcastically about cutting short that "magnificent life she was living". He also said, "I give death to those deserving." When we hear this, we immediately think of someone bad that deserves to die. But what if Lestat's meaning included those who deserve the peace of death in response to a hard or brutal or unfair life that has caused them harm or grief? For someone in that state, death might be welcomed...like mercy killing!

True! Though it's never explored in the episode, I got a sense that Ms. Lilly didn't enjoy being a prostitute, but it was all she knew from a young age, so whatever Lestat's intentions for 😵ffing her, I think on a level she preferred death over having to give her body to men who only saw her as an object. I believe that's why she loved Louis. She knew he was gay & therefore knew he wouldn't violate her & he was probably the only man she could have JUST conversation with without being expected to "put out" sometime during the encounter. And Louis loved her cuz she was the only person besides his sister Grace who didn't condemn him for being gay, & he didn't feel pressured to have sex with Lilly just to keep up appearances cuz for someone gay person to have sex with some1 of the opposite sex --- even if it's not under physical threat but social coercion --- that can feel like r@ype /violation as well --- even for men. Lilly & Louis were each other's "beard" & safe haven. I felt sad that Lestat took her away from him, but in a sense, I feel he did it cuz he knew Louis would never have given up trying to fake being straight as long as Lilly was around to be his "crutch 🩼. "

One thing people should know while Lestat can be manipulative, he's impulsive and not a planner. He takes advantage of people's moment of weakness but he doesn't orchestrate those weaknesses. Just saying

You got yourself a new subscriber! Let me start off by saying I’m also loving this adaption so far and I’m curious to see where the story will go and how it will differ from the book. I really appreciate your ability to judge this piece on its own as an adaption. Often times viewers can get so caught up in something differing from source material that they are not able to appreciate the art at hand. Also, I work in production and major kudos to you for noticing the detail with the pupils during the feeding frenzy!

Lily was the closest person Louis had to a confident. Paul was the person Louis loved most. Louis’ mother blamed him for Paul’s death. I think LeStat orchestrated all of these events to isolate Louis so he would have no where else to turn.

I think all of this too and I think Louis is eventually going to find all of this out making him extremely angry at Lestat and this is why he will leave Lestat and go off on his own leading to the present day

That could be possible, but Lestat is too impetuous for such planning. I think he just ate Lily couse he was jealous. And got rid of Paul cause he didn't like him.
@crissiampco
@crissiampco Жыл бұрын
Convincing Paul to take his life would be sooooooo against Lestat's personality though. Lily wasn't related to Louis and he ate her. He'd never kill someone Louis loved. And when he wants to kill someone, he does it himself. Lestat isn't evil, he's just a dummy. 😂

If I remember correctly Lestat actually didn’t develop his morality of killing only bad people until much later. He had a whole period where he was basically a vampire hedonist because he lost his mother and his lover and his maker and felt like it just didn’t matter. Also interview Lestat is full on villainous, because that’s what Louis saw. Whereas the vampire Lestat there is some of that, but with nuance, and after that his morality comes into clearer and clearer focus.

IMO, I think he killed Lily because not only to mess with Louis but he is jealous of her and in true Lestat fashion, obviously wants Louis to himself. Plus, Maven of the Eventide had said in her review, Louis must have fantastic blood to make Lestat feel like he's 🎶walking on air 🎶

He could have killed Lily out of plain old jealousy, though that does put a little dent on his character given that he is insistent on killing "those who deserve it". But again, does 'deserving death' necessarily mean that the person is 'evil'?

@@TheNaughtyLibrarian True! That's what we've been going on about in the discord. It doesn't make sense to me that he killed Lily, and that light man earlier, and encouraged Louis to pursue that businessman in the bar, and the priests afterwards. But I think we will probably get an explanation from Lestat afterwards since initially, we are painted a figure of Lestat as a nonchalant murderer in IWTV from Louis' POV anyway.

@corpeter Жыл бұрын
well the rewrite is not by Anne. She and Christopher are executives in name only. They were involved before, I think when it was Hulu or such. Christopher wrote the screenplay "the VL" and they were teasing it on FB etc. But it got dropped and AMC took over. The script was out of the window. Anne and Christopher deleated everything on FB on that matter and never commented afterwards. Now that Anne has passed, still nor word from Christopher. I do believe if he was behind the show, he would promote it, as he does with anything else concerning Anne. So no, they were not involved in the rewrite, I do not think so. As for the Mayfairs, I heard the cut out Michael and Aaron - those were my favorite characters - mmh not sure what to make of this...

If I remember correctly some book readers have told me that Anne Rice does eventually retcon the "vampires can't fuck" lore. Which is probably why so many people are totally fine with this technical change from the source material ... People in modern-day are just real horny and so we mist put sex into the ahow so it is successful.....the show runner has said that they're doing like a... Bigger picture adaptation... They are taking a look at the entirety of the book series... And all of the lore that has existed and been retconed and tweaked and changed and etc and are just having it... Just be like that from the get-go so no confusing retcons have to happen. 🤷‍♀️ And as a non book reader I like that! It makes for a smoother storytelling, IMO. Like in reality the books were written over decades and decades and so of course some retconning is bound to happen. But yeah I'm glad they're able to look at the book series... From the outside... Instead of doing insular book by book season adaptations. To

💭They are Vampire husbands!❤/ Lestat stalked Louis before they ever met, found out all his regular hang-outs and would be there before Louis got there... *(That's why he was there with Miss. Lily, and at the card game at the beginning.) 📍and he used all kind of vampire tricks on Louis from the jump. ➡; I think Louis liked Lestat, (and grew to love him) he was charming, etc. But Louis didn't want to be in a relationship with him(at first.) I could be wrong, but I feel like Lestat 'talked' Paul into doing what he did. And I agree with some commenters that said Lestat probably killed Lily because she was the one Louis would run to, and he wanted Louis to run to him. I loved episode one. I think, in the show, Lestat "killed" Paul. Paul tells Louis that Lestat speaks to him in his head soon before he walks off of the roof, so I think he may have been whispering evil things to him to make him want to jump. Also, it is a Lestat thing to do to manipulate Louis's life to make him vulnerable.
