Eric Bogosian was really the perfect casting choice for Daniel because his persona is so cynical and direct and provocative. (You know right off the bat that nothing is getting past him.) But there are no one-dimensional characters in this series, and I've actually been more struck by those moments when his character cracks, and he is genuinely moved by Louis's emotions. Or when Armand is manipulating his thoughts and he gets lost. Those moments of vulnerability make his character that much more layered and interesting. It's really nice to hear Eric say that he's enjoying having the chance to play a more complicated character because it's the complexity and the nuances that make this series.

I love that question to Eric about Anne & I appreciate how much respect he has for her as a writer. I know her family hasn't exactly supported this show, but I hope that one day they understand that the people behind it have a lot of love for the material & the author (Sam being a huge fan of the books long before knowing that one day he would play The Lestat).
@wildflouwir6 ай бұрын
Wasn't she working with production before she passed? Why aren't they supporting it?
6 ай бұрын
@@wildflouwirNo, neither she nor Christopher (her son) worked on this show. They would never support anything that wasn't a faithful adaptation of the source material. Anne was very pernickety when it came to her work, and she wanted a show that followed the books down to the last detail. Long story short, she wanted to start with The Vampire Lestat because that is really the beginning of The Vampire Chronicles, as he is the protagonist of the series. I think the show is trying to make both Louis and Lestat co-leads, and that is something Anne wouldn't have agreed to. Lestat is the lead, and Louis is somewhat of a background character-important, but background nonetheless. Her son Christopher had penned a pilot script, but AMC rejected it once they'd gained the rights to the property. Hence why they withdrew all support after that. This show is vastly different from Anne's original vision. They are executive producers in name only but have nothing to do with the show itself. The showrunner actually said that Anne would be unhappy with a lot of the choices he has made.
@wildflouwir6 ай бұрын
Ahh ok thank you! That sucks- at the very least I wish they could've agreed to a spinoff, duel plot or something to appease both parties.
6 ай бұрын
@@wildflouwir They could've just made a show inspired by The Vampire Chronicles and saved themselves a ton of money in the process. That way Anne's son could've kept shopping around and eventually come together with someone who wanted to make a show that was true to the books. That's not to say this show is bad, it's just like an alternate universe version of the chronicles.
@BriarPatchNyra6 ай бұрын
Starting with wolfkiller would've never worked. It gives away the whole story, and then justifying having the interview happen would be very difficult. I get why they wanted to do that after Lestat became protag, but it's actually more faithful to start with Louis. And I think it makes more sense to keep him around. Anne ended up backtracking and retconning a lot (that does not mean the books are bad!) Regardless, sometimes you have to look past an author and do your own thing. I don't care if she'd approve, cause the show is excellent.

Note on “what would immortality be like”- I think the reason we struggle with it as humans and portray it this way is because humans are made to live a certain lifespan, we are unconsciously equipped to withstand a certain number of years, and the thought of either not reaching that number or far surpassing it is terrifying because we aren’t made to endure it, which is why turning into a vampire is sink or swim. You adapt or you don’t, because vampires, the mind, no matter how much human emotions you slough off, you are still left with base instinct and one of those latent and dormant things is how long can you hold up against time you aren’t supposed to be living? It changes you, which is why Lestat is the way he is, Armand. Louis, for better or worse, was taught by those prevailing personalities that were forced to evolve on their own, reach their own conclusions without any safeguards. Regardless if they were good ones, Louis had those safeguards, he had people who did it first, he had examples to build himself off of, cruel or not, which I feel is why Claudia turned out how she did. Claudia feels like Louis but acts like Lestat. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. We all evolve different, doubly so when it’s a physical evolution too, not just mental revelation.

@juanita-dark5 ай бұрын
It's because Bailey's not in S2 and they're promoting S2 with Delainey. They had S1 to promote Bailey. When you've got a new actor, repeatedly referencing the old actor makes it more difficult for the audience to accept the new one. There's just no need.

In Season 1, Sam was in most every scene. In Season 2 (so far) he's in comparatively few. He and Jacob were spending tons of time together on and off screen, and that's obviously been greatly reduced. I think the chemistry is just more low-key.

Maybe just me. But Armad is so lackluster. All of the other characters have such a strong stage presence. From Daniel all the way to Claudia. Even some of the side characters (like the dress shop owner) and the other vampires in the coven give a much more powerful presence. Maybe that's the point, not sure. Maybe Armad will surprise me by the end of the season. Never thought I'd say this but I actually miss Lestat. It's a little boring without him. I may be a little biased bc I also didn't like Armad in the movie but I thought Banderas did a great job.
