One of the best things about this show is that they cast Louis as a Black man and then actually showed how his race affects his relationship with Lestat when they could have just never acknowledged it. That was when I really knew that this show was something special. Also, I was so excited to see that your reaction to the first episode got a lot of views! Daniel Malloy is so monotone & chill because 1. Louis tried to kill him before. He has ZERO respect for Louis at this point. 2. Daniel is out of his element, he’s in a foreign country and in the home of someone who could kill him instantly. He’s uncomfortable, plus having Parkinson’s disease takes a lot of life out of you. Especially since he’s so old now he doesn’t care to pretend to act jolly. He isn’t here to smile and laugh he’s here to get the biggest story of his life.

I've read the books, know the lore and can honestly say this tv show is among the best. And we love watching it through fresh eyes. And it doesn't hurt that the new watcher is extremely 🔥😎! Seriously, that accent?! 🔥🔥🔥😍

I think he has mentioned that he's from the Middle East in the past... So it's probably an Arabic accent, if I had to guess. I don't think he has specifically mentioned the country that he lives in... other than that the laws around lgbtq+ relationships aren't great, IIRC. So it's either severely punished or potentially illegal where he lives. Which sucks. But yeah. It's just the reality of the laws and stuff.

The beauty of this show is that we get to see these brutal, immortal beings wrestle with, embrace, mock and yearn for things that their human food takes for granted. And while it's pointless and unfair to expect them to adhere to our own rules when it comes to relationships and behaviour, it doesn't half make for some gloriously entertaining TV! No matter what else is going on, Loustat's chemistry is undeniable! And Daniel will hopefully win you over in time! Enjoyed your reaction!

Eric Bogosian isn't doing a poor job, on the contrary, Daniel is supposed to be unlikable. Older, jaded, cynical, and revisiting a situation he viewed earlier in life w/very different eyes. I'd have been disappointed if he played Daniel as the 20-something version of himself, esp because as a journalist, he's probably seen quite a bit of the world.

I think Daniel’s relationship with Louis is the most honest one he has ever had. That is what attracts Louis to Daniel’s personality. Daniel is there to get to the truth. Louis needs someone like that because no one else has ever done that for him. He is almost like a therapist.

Race is definitely a factor. Always. It's why Louis had to pretend to be his servant when they were out together. It's why Louis walks behind Lestat when they are out together.

Yeah, this reactor is not from the US and so I don't think he FULLY understands the racial tension of the time period... I don't necessarily blame him for not knowing US history... I certainly don't know the history of the country he lives in but yeah... It was a pretty big thing.

No, I tottaly disagree with Daniel being bad acted. Daniel is crucial here to confront Louis BS. His memories are full of lies and bias, and Daniel knows it, he is not a kid anymore and will confront Louis with some truths. This reflects the way that Anne Rice conflicts Interview with Vampire (book 1) and Vampire Lestat (book 2) narratives, but I guess they wont adapt book 2 as another series, so Daniel is questioning Lous from the first day. I'm currently on season 2 and there is an entire episode about the first interview. I only hope they don't try to impose talamasca and the witch universe, because there is so much to tell about the vampires to build to the Queen of Damned, it is better not to lose the focus on the Louis-Lestat circle.

I totally disagree too. Eric Bogosian as Daniel is my favorite part of the show. They could have made it so grim and serious but Daniel adds a lot of necessary levity

From what we know, the talamasca are getting their own spin-off series. So, hopefully, they won't delve too deeply into it in the main series but it WILL be delved into deeply in the spin-off based on the organization.

Yeah, I think his french accent is pretty decent. It's not perfect... but its LEAGUES better than Tom Cruise who didn't even attempt an French accent in the movie.

You will become interested in the journalist Daniel Molloy, because Louis needs him and all the toughness he brings. As for Lestat, get used to his outbursts because he throws a fit in every episode but the last one. I'm enjoying your enjoyment!

I think you don't understand the dynamic between Louis and Daniel Malloy, the interviewer. This is their second meeting. Louis and Daniel first meet in 1973 when Daniel was a young man. There is a history here. It might help if you read the book or the 1994 film. This series is more in line with the book. Also, you asked why Daniel couldn't go home each day. If you watched episode 1, Louis sends Daniel a letter and an airline ticket to travel to Dubai in order to discuss the tapes from 1973. Daniel is a guest in Louis' Dubai penthouse.

But yeah, I agree I don't think that he understands that the movie interview technically did happen in this universe (it just never got published into a book like it did in the books) and that this is the second interview.

I think people misunderstand why Louis likes Daniel. Yes, he’s a jerk. However, he is also there to get to the truth of who is Louis. He cuts through Louis’ facade. He needs someone like Daniel because Daniel forces him to face things he cannot face on his own.

I watched this episode again and realized his vampire life is not so different from his human life. For example, he still deals with racism, pretending to be the valet to see the play with Lestat to having to pretend to feel enthralled with drinking the tenor. The sad thing is that Lestat didn’t notice his struggles or care. It seemed like he was only happy Louis was “his.” What are your thoughts? On a side note, I had a hard time believing lestat “forgot" to tell Louis about the sun l; then he had the nerve to carry him up the stairs to seduce him too lol
