Just watched it a couple of days ago for the first time. I love Kar Wai movies, but Ashes of Time is something else entirely, a magnificent combination of Kar Wai themes and aesthetics with the epic feel of wuxia. I also think that its the most beautiful work of Kar Wai - Doyle duo.
