I once chucked my last £250 at a 1979 yellow vauxhall chevette saloon as my daily driver had just destroyed its gearbox! It turned out to be a well looked after one owner car. It was bloody brilliant! I ended up getting rid of the broken down car and kept mellow yellow for years. I would probably still have it today if it hadn't been destroyed by a range rover rear ending it in traffic!

My mate lives in the ulez area. He bought a crappy MK1 zafira petrol for £400 that is compliant. He got the full scrappage grant out of Mr Khan too! Two fingers to 'em!

As a proud Australian Stef I can tell you that Japanese cars are and have been sold brand new in Australia since the late 60s. Not 5yo imports but brand new. Glad you loved Australia.

Want a Proton now. anyhoo great interview , very funny . I bet £200 in 1991 on a Commer Imp van i dragged from a scrapyard . got it legal in 4 weeks and just drove it. I still own it today

I know that my car would be too modern for Steph, but! I have an "05" Nissan X- Trail 184K + As far as electric car's go! Scrap yards is where they should be. I live in a top flat, My car is in the road, So I would need a very long extention lead to charge the car. I wouldn't have an electric car as a free gift. Also! So many electric car's are already being scrapped in the short time that they have been around. Crazy!!

My dad had several Hillman minx but the man up the road had a Humber which was like an upper class version. I was laughing that you did a rover as a classic that I had from new then realised it was 30 years ago. I don't ever see a Nissan Qashqai diesel on this show

My employer is moving over to EV’s and are looking to supply the charging points at employees homes…. I stymied that by telling them I’m moving back onto my boat….. and I’m not willing to run my diesel generator to charge any company ev……..also, I’m buggered if they’re sending anyone to drill any extra, unnecessary holes in the hull!! 😆😆😆

Saying about scrapping good cars, I have spent most of my life buying 'Payday cars'. Cars that I could buy with a single pay packet. This year, for the first time ever, and after 40 cars (38 of which were sub £1k), I had to buy a car on finance as there were just no payday cars anymore. The likes of scrappage schemes, and companies like Charles Trent, has made scrapping old cars so easy that no one is selling cheap cars anymore. I also live in Cornwall. The second hand car market down here is dire anyway, so I end up going to Wilts to buy cars. But there is nothing available anymore.

You are so right Steph about older and low income people that have a decent car but the govt deem it not good enough. Ulez is a cash cow and nothing more ! I have an 03 plate van that's still running well and in great condition and i want to keep it going for as long as possible,and i can't afford to buy a newer one .. This country is going down hill fast in many ways

You both mentioned the ULEZ and Congestion charge. Picture this. A range Rover owner with an original, heavily polluting RR goes to London. He pays the ULEZ and CC. He can then go into London and pollute to his hearts content proving they are both TAXES on the ordinary working class person. Also 15 minute cities ARE on the way in as modern cars, both EV`s and ICE, have software built in them to stop them if you exceed your 15 minute distance. They will be stopped by Geo Fencing via the sat-nav installed whether or not you have use of it! This is the sole aim of the WEF who have advised every Government around the world of how to achieve control of the population. Google WEF and its aims to see what lies in store for us. Its frightening!

Allegedly. The cars people had to scrap in London because of ULEZ khan sent them to the Ukraine, there is vids on KZbin stating that fact. I don't know what deals were made maybe some good research would be wise to find out the facts
