Thanks for the recipe. I made these today! Couldn't find the empanada do so I had to make my own. It was easy. 3c flour, 2tsp turmeric, 1 tsp curry, 2tsp baking powder, tsp salt, stick of butter. 3/4c milk, 1tbsp sugar. I had time today I guess. But omg it was good with some fried plantains yes indeed! Thank you

Oooooo! I love Jamaican beef patties! I just made some about 2 weeks ago. Mines a recipe I was given by a friend's mom about 46yrs ago when I was 18 n just married. Her seasonings are a little different. Garlic, jalapenos, onion, scallion, dried thyme, curry powder, paprika, breadcrumbs, water, salt n pepper mixed with 1.5lb - 2lb ground beef. Her dough also had curry in it along with butter, Crisco, vinegar, egg, ice water n salt. OMG, this was the flakiest dough! This lady could cook! She also made groundnut stew and one of my favorites, Haitian rice n peas, which she would drizzle with the drippings of a roast chicken. God I miss that woman! ☘️🇮🇪☘️

Miss Gina thank you for this recipe of Jamaican beef Pattie’s “101” as you put it! I never thought of using ready made empanada dough! I think I’ll try it! This looks delicious! This is the first time I ever saw a nice southern soul sister like yourself make Jamaican beef Pattie’s on video with a southern accent! I love it I love it I love it!!! “ you hear me?” 😂 That’s also what I like about your other videos as well! They are so cheerful and could easily cheer up an otherwise blue person! Keep it up my dear! Thank you thank you thank you! I grew up eating Jamaican beef Patties! God bless and keep it up! Ps: thank you for this dough shortcut because sometimes it’s a little troublesome and time consuming and at times it doesn’t turn out right for me when preparing the crust!

Thank you Gina for "NOT" Pureeing/blending the beef mixture after it was cooked into mush. I've seen so many people ruin the consistency of beef patties by turning it into paste. Good job on the recipe! 👍🏽

Authentic jamaican patty filling is more of a paste consistency than regular ground beef..so they weren't wrong to do so. Everyone has a preference though, I guess.

Thanks for posting this recipe using the empanada crust! I added a slight hack which got it a bit closer to the real thing; I brushed the crust with melted butter that had turmeric mixed in. That gave it the traditional yellow color and the turmeric flavor. Thanks again!

Mrs. Gina Young, I have to say this; You are A GENIUS, YOU ARE AN GENIUS WHEN IT COMES TO COOKING ALL OF THIS GOOD FOOD. YOU REALLY COOK A WHOLE INTERNATIONAL LINE OF FOOD. YOU ARE AWESOME, & YOU ARE THE BOMB. YOU ARE INCREDIBLE
@mickeymichelle25675 жыл бұрын
Have you tried an authentic Jamaican beef pattie? You really should it's awesome! TIP: a made from scratch crust is soooo easy to make. It comes out flaky and light. But If you still want to use the pre-made dough but still want the authentic color, sprinkle a yellow tasteless food color powder made by Badia. Roll it into the dough with a rolling pin then proceed. Also, if you desire that moist mushy texture that's in an authentic beef patty use a paste made from bread and a packet of gelatin. Fresh thyme is also another ingredient in an authentic jamaican beef patty.
@lblake56535 жыл бұрын
You know what? I could hug you! You have solved the mystery of how the meat is so velvety and not the gritty texture that hamburger has. Can you direct me to a recipe for the meat mixture that incorporates the breadcrumb and gelatin?
@teresamitchell9085 жыл бұрын
Shelly B thank you . I guess you can make them her way but authentic is not difficult 👍🏽

Shelly B Do you have the recipe because I was thinking it didn’t look mushy like the authentic patties.
@lblake56535 жыл бұрын
@@thisheadofmine I learned that the patties that I am used to incorporate a little plain unflavored gelatine to get the consistency that I believe you are looking for. I thought that maybe cornstarch was used. Then I typed in a description in Google and I found recipes for beef patties that fit what I felt was missing.
@mickeymichelle25675 жыл бұрын
@@lblake5653 I wish I did. I normally cook to taste. Rarely do I use recipes unless I'm baking but since I've been in the lab I figured out that gelatin and a paste made from stale bread creates that unique texture.

Hi Gina I have been following your post now for a few weeks, I am a 55 year old Southern Cook, here lately I have wanted something different. So I am planning a girls night out with some of my friends at my home here is Georgia. So I am looking more into international flavors, so the Jamaican Beef Patties screamed try me , try me, and girlfriend I did just that. They were absolutely awesome ( your words You Here Me) lol. I did a test run today, unfortunately in this area it is hard to find a lot of the items. The Empanada dough disks are not in my area, so I used pie dough. instead of Habenaro i used a habenaro/lime spice. I enjoy your video's and will continue to follow. Thanks for the ideas.
