I am going to thank you for this recipe. I usually do biscuits. So this is great. I love dumplings and chicken. I also put a carrot or two in mine. My granddad always used carrots and celery. Thanks to my favorite cook. Have a great day.

These are my favorite style of dumplings Talli Faye ! I love the flat old timey dumplings ( some people call them slick’ems ) and some people love the fat fluffy thick dumplings !! I enjoy both styles but the flat are my favorites !! I’m glad you got a little snow and enjoyed it !!

The chicken and dumplings look delicious! Here in southwest GA we have almost 2 inches of snow, and I was excited to watch it fall. It’s the first time since 2018 we have had snow. I love watching your videos because they bring back such precious memories that I have of my mom and my dad cooking.

I want you to tell your husband (my partner in crime on here in the kitchen!🤣)… I decided that 3/4 cup shortening is a tad too much… Go with 1/2 cup and it’ll make the dumplings be more solid … they won’t dissolve in the liquid… otherwise it’s perfect on everything else 😊😊… Love n hugs n prayers always ♥️🙏🏻😍🥰

Talli Faye, you have a bunch of us here at Arcadia Rehabilitation center salivating! That was an awesome idea to make chicken & dumplings! Surprised you all didn't get more snow. We ended up was 10" in some areas of Pensacola, FL. Was a beautiful sight. Will be glad when I go home so I can make this version of health food. Been learning to walk again after severe bout of fluid overload. Was in hospital for 20 days, & now I've been here in rehab since12/4/24. Just a note… If you’re gonna use this recipe in particular… I would use 1/2cup shortening rather than 3/4cup… it’ll make the dumplings hold together better…. I love some dumplings! Whenever we go to Cracker Barrel, I always order a side of just the dumplings. Too when I boil chicken after it’s done. I pull meat off, I put all skin and bones back in broth and do a soft boil for 30-45 minutes. Takes it up another notch!

I looked back in the records & that is the most snow we’ve had in all my 56 years. In fact, last time we had more was in 1960, & it was only a 1/2 inch more. You & Buzz stay warm.

Yesterday, January 21st, it was 27 below zero in Duluth Minnesota when I woke up. It did warm up to 1 below by days end. Brrr. Love your show. Never change. I make what I call cream of dumpling soup. I put celery onions and carrots in it and I make a Polish dumpling with flour egg salt and milk. No shortening. You drop into broth with a spoon. Delicious. I don’t add chicken.

Girl Friend, I’m laughing so hard! You in Texas have some snow and we in Northern Illinois have none!! All though we ave had Sub-Zero temperature’s since Friday, Jan 18th!! The children haven’t had school because of the temperature. We have a lot of bused kids and it’s too cold and windy for them to be outside, waiting for a bus. My mama always made cornbread with chicken and dumplings.So delicious, always whole milk, self rising flour.If she was able to get her a little quart of butter milk she loved drinking it,and have some cornbread in it glass with it.She is the only one that loved it.She didn't get it very often because we just couldn't afford it. Everything she made for all of us kids was like eating royalty, with just something simple as chicken and dumplings ❤

We're thinking alike again. As you were adding the chicken, I was thinking to myself that it's the dumplings I really like. I don't need chicken either. Just need the chicken flavor. My mother did drop dumplings instead of rolling them out like you do, so the dumplings were bigger/thicker, but I like it the way you do it too. I like it all the ways, lol. We got a tad more snow than you, but like you said, it's all gone now. Got one more really cold overnight, and then it gets more normal. I've been enjoying this, though. Should be cold enough that I can wear a sweatshirt to work tomorrow. Don't get to do that very often around here.

You can use this same recipe with self rising flour, 1/2cup shortening… stir in enough buttermilk until dough is “spoonable”… drop by spoonfuls into gently boiling stock😊…. **if you don’t have buttermilk, regular milk will work but buttermilk helps with the fluffy in your dumplings **

On this recipe in particular… I’ve been telling everyone to use 1/2cup shortening rather than 3/4cup.. the dumplings will be more solid… And you can absolutely use butter in place of the shortening (use the same amount)… if you absolutely had to use oil, I’d probably use 1/4cup at the most 😊😊😊

Absolutely just broth and dumplings!!… I used 3/4 cup of shortening but would suggest 1/2cup instead… it made them a tiny bit too soft with 3/4

I’m in Michigan and we are getting hammered with snow. And terribly cold temps. This morning it was 4 degrees with a wind chill of -15. Brrr. Now that’s cold. Perfect day to be inside and cook or bake.

@@ditackett I don’t… Some people do… it’s just a preference on what kind of dumplings you like… if you prefer more puffy, drop dumplings use Self rising which has that in it , plus buttermilk helps them be fluffy too 😊😊
