@IntheStudioArtInstruction I taught in private studios for about 15 years and love the way you teach about the basic fundamentals of composition, light, color and such. Passing on your knowledge is such a gift!

Thank you, Diane. It's a beautiful thing, to understand that which one often feels, instinctively. You seamlessly weave theory into the cloth of art with a golden (mean) needle.

A good reminder, thanks! I have a stack of 8X8" and 10X10" with frames, will pay attention to my compositions so they aren't boring 😊

I love your lessons! The mathematical explanation of your “sweet spots” is that they are the rebatment measured along the diagonal with your Fibonacci tool. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏❤️☮️

Rebatment of a rectangle is a new word I didn’t hear in college art classes. But did learn about the golden mean in a rectangle. Appreciate the square advice. I do love squares especially when I’m painting with wax - encaustic designs seems to fit nicely for me in squares - ❤

Thank you for another great quick tip! This will be very helpful for me, along with the last quick tip on rabatment. Composition is still pretty new to me so I very much appreciate your sharing your knowledge on this topic!

Oh, wow; I was about to paint on a square canvas, since the image I took with my camera almost called out for it. Now, after listening to this, I am challenged to make sure it is an interesting piece! I took a close-up of two puffed-out mourning doves perched on an old birdhouse covered with snow, and I want to do it almost monochromatic. Here goes. Thanks for the valuable information in this Quick Tip!

Square format have a type of "fat monumentality", I remember Albert Handell in an interview talking about this. He use mostly square format and close to square formats.

It's just another option among the many available to us.

I think the question was asking what type of layout to use regarding the elements of design I believe are there 7 or 8 of them?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 ай бұрын
Actually, Jan, the viewer was asking specifically about using the square format. I rarely limit the number of possibilities because the imagination can always discover something other than traditional methods. As far as the elements of design, typically, we list value, color, direction, size, shape, texture and line .

@@IntheStudioArtInstruction great video as always. If you havent, check out the book "elements of dynamic symmetry". Really incredible stuff breaking down alive symmetry. Also the ratio you mentioned I beliebe is 1.618 not 1.68 as you probably know

Mastering the square is the hardest thing an artist can do
