Wait, others struggle with those vids too?!?! I thought it was me!!! I've been struggling & struggling, watching & painting dozens & dozens of beginner/easy vids from so many KZbin artists who seem so much more interested in selling their merchandise (ie brushes, t shirts) than helping anyone learn. They imply/infer that by buying their exclusive line of ie brushes it'll magically transform you into a painting pro. They may be great brushes but there are no magic shortcuts. After dozens & dozend of painting to these vids with horrible results. I decided, just today, to box-up ALL my paints/supplies because I felt so artistically defeated and empty of any talent. Now that I've seen this video I'm pulling everything back and will begin anew watching closely these exceptional lessons. Thank you!!!

In 1969 I began studying at Massachusetts College of Art. I thought we would get this kind of instruction on materials and tools, but was bitterly disappointed. Instead, the college force-fed their students a diet of abstract expressionism. Thank you for this wonderful training.

William, I got the same diet from UGA back in the mid-60's. It did give me understanding of what the abstract expressionists were doing, but I had to go elsewhere to get the technical information I needed.

Finally a video that makes sence. I learned years ago, and now teach, that we need to understand the tools and materials we use. Not so much the pros & cons, but rather capabilities and limitation then using that info to our advantage to create the desired effects. I tell my students use common sense, follow safety precautions and explore. Experiment and learn what your tools can do for you in this adventure of art.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 жыл бұрын
WhittleDude, I am in total agreement. I always equate painting skills with craftsman's skills: it works best when you know what your tools and materials will do and when you know how to guide their results.
