Since the tomato really demonstrated this teaching well, I quick took some photos of some of my garden tomatoes inside and plan to practice. Thanks for the great tips!

Great. It's also fun to do this exercise from an actual tomato rather than a photo.

Dianne, this comes just in time. A few hours ago I was actually looking up all your value scales to determine if the "low light" on your notan value scale corresponds to half-tone 3?? I think I used to go in the opposite direction. You'd think I would have it straight by now. Take care, Carol.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction

Yep, low light and half tone 3 are in the same value range. Have fun with this.

For the filming, I use a magnetic white board and I have little magnetic strips on the back of the color wheel.

I'm new to your channel and I am new to painting. I can draw and work with charcoal pretry well, though. My question is (and this is realllly basic), how come painters dont just use one shade of red, and add black and or white as you move into and or out of shadow? I know that that is never done, but my child like brain wants to know lol.

We learn to see what one color will do to another and we learn to observe this in things according to what the light is doing and what is in shadow. Black darkens the value but does not provide color changes that might happen in shadow. What lightens the value, but often makes the color cooler. So is it fair to say warmer hues no matter their value will alwaysproject light and cannot be used for shadows ? Cuz cooler colors if lighter in value can be used to project light .
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction 7 ай бұрын
No. It is not a good idea to make a rule about anything visually. Shadows, regardless of their hues, receive ambient light and within that, they can also receive the hues in the ambient light.
