Greetings Michele, love butterflies on flowers and on children's noses. Lately I'm drawing wings...I need practice. Unfortunately I've never seen that butterfly specie, they're so illusive. Maybe Vancouver is too cold. Watercolor pencil art is growing. 🦋 take care.

Very nice. There’s something always appealing about the blues. I foresee my impatience making an unholy, muddy mess with that vibrant set of colours if I should try it though.

Ah, be positive :-) The blues are beautiful, I think it's because there are so few blue animals and flowers.

💙I love this! Thank you so much . . . I just visited my daughter in Baltimore and we went to the museum. She loved the preserved butterfly collection, so I just ordered my first watercolor pencil set - did I even know they exist? Noooo! - and given my okayish drawing ability I'm going to give this a go for her birthday card. 🦋 💙

One heads up about watercolor pencil and use of Dorland's wax: I've found that Dorland's Wax smears any watercolor pencil marks that haven't been activated with water. I now use a "fine art spray" to fix the pencil for unframed pieces.

I wanted to know your take on why there seems to be a specified about Derwent intense and other pencils. Are they very different
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber5 ай бұрын
They work the same, but you can't rewet once dry, although that doesn't worry me.
@cindylong27822 жыл бұрын
I tried (not too much effort) doing this butterfly. Someone had given me Artist’s Loft watercolor pencils, so I tried the butterfly. The drawing was fine, but the colors just did not blend. Its a blotchy mess. With that said, I am going to go over it with more color and try to improve it. It was my first go at these pencils. I may try it again with better pencils at some point.
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's usually the pencils if they won't blend. You can buy singles in order to try different brands!

I drew and painted along this time (which means that I might need to watch it again in one piece 😂). I think I worked too small for most of the details but overall happy with the result. I learned a good deal so I might give a go to my favourite butterfly next time, which is a peacock.

I love your butterfly! I think you're right that its a butterfly. Isn't the way to tell a butterfly from a moth by the antennae? Butterflies have a single thin antenna and moths have those feathery ones?
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber2 жыл бұрын
Interesting, maybe!

Measuring proportions was a pain when I was learning to draw in Art class. As we were not allowed to use rulers, I also had to learn to measure with my pencil(s). Thank you for the detailed explanation on how to draw this beautiful butterfly. Blue is my favorite color. Edit. Had a thought about the white parts. Since you are using watercolors, could you use white gouache on those parts?

Is it an option to wet small areas one at time, spreading the color over the damp paper, rather than coloring it first and wetting it afterwards?
@dianemurphy53072 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is done sometimes. Do a search for watercolor pencil techniques and give them a try on a scrap of paper or in your sketchbook. You can even wet your pencil first then draw, but look at a tutorial to find out the best ways to use water with pencils.

It’s a butterfly - butterflies have knobs at the ends of their antennae rather than furry antenna.

Well I didn't know that before - thanks!

I’m not sure, but it looks like a moth not a butterfly, but it’s still beautiful

I thought that too but apparently it's a butterfly 🤷♀️🦋
