FINISHING off SPLITTING a big old pile of odd firewood rounds is a great feeling of accomplishment and today is that day!!! The Eastonmade Ultra and the Husqvarna 592xp did there thing and crushed the wood fast as a Ferrari!

Good bit of work there! I've got a cord of Cherry waiting for me to cut and split today. Just waiting for 7am to get cutting, the neighbor works overnights and I don't think they'd like the 500 ripping at 6:00 am 😂

Hey Chris, do you typically keep your wood 16 inches long for the wood boilers as well, or do you make them longer? I'm just thinking about those odd length pieces, instead of cutting them down and then having short pieces left over for Bert's boiler, why not avoid the cut and split them for boiler wood and have a bin full of mixed wood for boiler customers? Less cutting and less touching of the wood is always the goal. Am I on to something or am I out to lunch? All the best Wood Boss!

I have done custom length cuts for people before but the 16 inch is standard and Bert has years worth of wood and I do not need to make more on speculation. IF some one would want some I can make it.

Hey Chris, when you folks are ripping through the round against the grain, are you using a special cross-cut chain on the saw or just using your regular full chisel chains to cut through the middle of the rounds? And if you are using the regular chain, does it feel different cutting against the grain? Thanks!

Hello Gord, regular full chisel chain, it is with the grain though, a cross cut (bucking cut is across the grain). A bigger saw makes a HUGE difference when ripping/noodling.

At aprox, The 4 minute mark I notice you pouring liquid into the the trough where the bottom base of the push block slides. I assume this is oil ----if so how often does this need to be done and are you useing clean oil or waste oil

Sorry about that, I am just a beginner, I am still learning, I have only split wood for a little over 50 years now and I only split about 200 full cords a year.

I'm just stating the facts when I say it's best to have hard and fast rules about safety especially around machinery and organic unpredictable objects. And I'm right there with you, I've been cutting and splitting wood for a solid 35 years myself, albeit not 200 full cords a year.

I do use it... a lot...but with big nasty knotty dry wood the single wedge does a much better job. Most of my older videos over the last 3 years have the 4 way on most of the time.

Firing up the saws this morning to finish bucking up the pine and film a few videos. Hopefully I get the videos done before it gets too hot out. Last year it wouldn't rain to save our lives. This year, we are getting flash floods all over Wisconsin. Like farming, the weather never does what we firewood people want it to do.
