I still don’t understand it.. didn’t Jesus preach forgiveness so death penalty is surely ungodly?

2:40 In many cultures, modern and ancient it has been (and still is) acceptable for children to drink alcohol. Even today the UK has a problem with 'child alcohol' consumption. So, I do not follow your logic that it must be an adult brought to the city elders. EDIT: I listened for a few more minutes, I don't mean this as an attack, but you are incredibly naive. Childhood obesity is a major problem in the developed world right now. Your logic on this verse is becoming much harder to follow. EDIT: I am left highly disturbed by your take on Deuteronomy 21:18-21. I have also always been disturbed by these verses anyway, in fact there are several things in the Bible that cause confusion and concern. But the reason I am disturbed by your take on this passage is because, I believe this pertained to any 'child' (adult or child), but also that the punishment was death for not obeying the father and mother and for being 'A glutton and a drunkard'. The main reason this bothers me is those are not crimes or sins deserving of the death penalty. And I can't tell you the number of people (it would be in the billions) who's lives became better because they did not listen to their mother and father. All parents aren't perfect. Sadly, not all parents even have your best interest at heart. Some even do not know what is best for their children. And then most sad of all are those parents who are damaged by trauma, lifestyle, or drugs, and actively destroy their own children's lives. Your take on this passage seems that you think the death penalty is fine. It is hard for me to say I even directly disagree with you....BUT, we put people to death for the most heinous of crimes like murder, not for disobeying mom and dad and being a glutton or drunkard.

I think "drunkard" doesn't mean this kid was just drinking some wine or beer here and there, it refers to the extravagant consumption of alcohol and probably he was doing some heidous things when drunk. I also don't thing that any parent would get their kid stoned just because he was playing ball in the house or just choose to an differanr life style than theirs,, this "child" was probably ever ceasingly causing trouble to anyone near him and was unrepentful for the actions commited. Only then a parent would take their kid to elders, and elders would oversee the case if it is really worth the capital punishment

@@nothingtoseehear5012 There is no record in the OT of this verse being carried out as you understand it. No parent had their child stoned to death for the reasons it lists. This is important because it means that there is a deeper meaning to this verse than what it first appears to us in English.

@@wandererh8544 If you read my comment, you would know that I am more concerned with the channel creator's take on the verse rather than the verse itself. But now you bring your own flawed logic and fallacies to the conversation. There are no records for all kinds of things in the Bible. I think reading comprehension is something our education systems should concentrate on more.
