My husband and I lived with her, we had a care team to help as my kids lived with us too. It was one of the most beautiful times in my life. It was eye-opening at the time, to learn as much as I did. They have both passed on now, (my MIL and my husband). I'm thrilled to find your channel, and it makes my heart smile to see this type of content 🥰

2 months ago, This was my first video I ever watched of yours and I was absolutely SMITTEN!!! I’ve seen so many many others now. You two are my FAVORITE KZbin couple! Funny, clever, classy, and I love how much I am LEARNING. I am a CNA at a hospital and completely identify with the reality of embarrassment and vulnerability that is involved. If I sense a patient is embarrassed over what I have to do for them, or what their body has done in front of me, I tell them, “what happens in the hospital STAYS in the hospital”. They usually laugh and it puts them at ease. I think being a caregiver is a beautiful thing, for so many different reasons. Thank you for sharing and help normalizing CARING for others selflessly. It’s beautiful 🤍
@lisaakinlabi2 жыл бұрын
People who have never been a caregiver will never understand why it really is no big deal. I chose to be a caregiver for a career and I also cared for both my parents when they could not care for themselves. I have literally had to dig poo out of a persons behind on a daily basis, clean up vomit and change feeding tubes and other medical devices. Nothing seriously bothered me at all because I CARED for each individual I assisted. When you care you don't even think of what may be disturbing to others. Ironically now that I need help - I have no one.

How much a part of the positive experience can you attribute to the attitude of the people needing help? I cared for my mom for several years but she was impossible to satisfy, never acknowledged the effort, and although I knew I was helpful and actually necessary to her on going life, I felt inadequate and depressed. I’m glad I did what I did for her, but it was a horrible time.

@wolfgangshuman2 жыл бұрын
You do caregiving because you have to, the other persons life literally depends upon it. Not just for love. A caregivers role has to have a huge element of selflessness, the love is a bonus not a requirement. I know I’d much rather someone who loves me to look after me than not but it’s a duty to care for someone that can’t do it themselves, not love itself.

@@wolfgangshuman It actually is out of love if you're in a relationship though because that person DOESN'T have to do it if they don't want to. Just curious what changes you made to make it work better? Be careful about the lightheadedness, Hannah! My wife has a very similar issue, which was eventually diagnosed as vasovagal syncope. Standing up _often_ makes her blood pressure drop, and she has to bend over so her head is lower than her heart to keep from passing out. Which brings me to the "be careful" part. After dating a while, we went on a trip to visit my family for the first time. She had one of the spells as she got up, and this was before she got better at handling it. She had been sitting near the hearth on the other side of the room, looking at some of my childhood photos. She stood up, stretched and immediately took a nose dive, whacking her head on a footstool, at which point her neck went sideways. Yikes. She was okay, but she had some facial bruises after and my family definitely gave me a hard time about it (jokingly). I also got some dirty looks from cashiers (not jokingly). But seriously, her head landed just inches away from the stone hearth. Could have been really bad. So take care of yourself, Hannah, and keep an eye on it.

For Hannah, please let your doctor know about the passing out feelings that you said happen a lot. You might have POTS, and POTS is worse if you get dehydrated (like in the morning when first getting up) also, per Dr agreement, increasing salt intake also helps. There's also neurocardiogenic syncope, NCS, which is what I have. It's very similar to POTS where your blood pressure tanks and your pulse skyrockets making you feel like your going to pass out. These are diagnosed by a tilt table test, which is not fun.

My 15 year old has POTs the passing out is scary. Dr suggested to not limp salt intake
@carolwalters64692 жыл бұрын
@@katierichter5765 my oldest son had a period of time where he was passing out. Went thru cardiac testing to make sure he was OK and they figured it was POTS. He was put on a daily salt pill for a few years. Then he started getting a bad headache everything he took the salt pill so we weaned him off and , thankfully, he's been OK since.

Y’all are so funny. Love watching you two go back and forth. My questions are: what are your favorite colors and what are your favorite foods? Also, Hannah, you should look into POTS. Going from a laying (or seating) position to a standing position suddenly and feeling like you’re going to pass out is a big sign your body might not be regulating blood pressure properly!

I think it's cause care giving good true caring giving is hard to find. It's hard to find people that see you as a full person who just needs help and respect you. Often times at least in my experience you tend to get the opposite, or those types of people are very rare and hard to find. I've been on the program to find that lets me find my own care, and I only found one person who really saw me as an independent full human being who respected my wants and needs but still put in the work every day and made my day blissful. That stuff is Sadly rare and doesn't come by very often

i really love shopping for office supplies-agenda books, journals, and pens are probably my top favorites. so that brings up my Monday grubbag questions: what’s your favorite office supply and why? also, if you were an office supply, which one would you be and why?

Did Hannah have anyone close in her life that questioned or disagreed with her decision to be with a disabled person? A friend, sibling, etc. If so how did she handle this? Conversely did Shane have anyone in his life that questioned Hannah or didn’t trust her?

Regarding the stench after a bathroom with upset stomach, a trick I learned with my daughter is to instantly flush as soon as the package is dropped (and right after any subsequent package). Try it!

As someone with cerebral palsy I struggle to bring up that fact that I can be intimate with a someone I’m interested in romantically. Shane was it hard to bring up that subject with Hannah? And how long into the relationship did you wait to bring it up??
@bsturc2 жыл бұрын
I also have CP. I can be intimate, but likely not in a 'traditional' way due to the nature of my CP presentation, so I am also curious about this, but from my perspective.

while I cant relate. I grew up with a couple of kids whose dad has cerebral palsy and what I saw with their mom is really that when the right person comes along. Though easier then said than done. Was that in general, she just loves their dad. They waited for marriage to be intimate as we are in the same religion and thats our belief and I do think that played a factor in the background. It wasn't necessary to talk about intimacy before marriage because she loved him enough that it wasn't the focus. They've been married for almost 3 decades now. I believe that sometimes when we let things happen naturally, we know better what to do in questionable situations. Somehow we just know what to say and what to expect, to assume the best in someone. Though I do still think you pose an interesting question for even those of us who cant relate because its not something we think about as much.

If you are feeling unwell such as this in the morning where you will pass out. Please get checked for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Also known as pots disease. I have been diagnosed with this and have been about 4 years now. And this is how I felt in the mornings as well. All you will need to really do is a tilt table test to diagnose it fully. Just thought this might help. Have not watched your videos much this being the first one. It's amazing how much care I see between the both of you So encouraging

Also as seen in othercomments distomnia syndrome or however you spell it. They go hand in hand. I hate that you have to go through this with the mornings....pre syncope episodes ....I totally feel what you are going through. Daily tasks are extremely difficult at times. But your.doing great
