I used the same exact dialators after my cancer surgery. I have given up because of a lot of issues but I’m encouraging all of the young women here to keep going. Maggie’s a wonderful teacher and support person and every young lady deserves to feel beautiful and loved. God bless you and zak and all the people affected by disease. 🥰🙏🏻🙏🏻

As a younger, happily married woman who had a traumatic rectal cancer diagnosis and APR shortly thereafter, this issue has been one of the hardest things to deal with post surgery. I was so focused on having a colostomy that I didn’t really think about the anatomy changes and what could happen! It is anxiety inducing! I watched A LOT of your videos during my recovery, and they helped me a lot. But I especially thank you for talking about this. You simply explained what I was having trouble explaining myself! Or even understanding myself. Which is embarrassing given I had two babies and should know better about my own anatomy. But this has helped me to realize I need to get a referral to a pelvic floor specialist and take control of my health and well-being beyond just trying to defeat cancer and manage an ostomy. Thank you for what you do!

I am so happy the videos could help. Please don't be embarrassed- I was a GI nurse who didn't even realize the anatomy changes I'd have after surgery! You focus on what your doctor focuses on, and it's hard to see beyond that! ❤

I was very close to becoming a pelvic floor PT, interned with one and I'm so excited that you were able to benefit so much from pelvic floor PT and are now using your platform to promote it!! So many people don't know there is help for things that are life-altering like pain with intimacy, incontinence, etc. You shouldn't have to suffer. Good for you being brave and getting help :)

Maggie well said. This is definitely a subject that needs to be talked about. Many suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction and other issues that contribute to problems in the pelvic floor. You always seem to address issues that may be a little touchy with always the right words. I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel and you are such an encouragement.

I wish there was some sort of award we could all nominate you for. I dont have a GI issue but have had some gyn issues & trauma history. I'm also a psychologist and I cannot give you enough praise and encouragement for talking so comfortably about bodily issues. As women we are shamed about talking about real bodily issues from a very young age. I wish we had a good health care system that covered "extra" treatments like psychotherapy and pelvic floor therapy (sometimes you need both combined). Im really inspired by your work in bodily education. I hope you can collab with Mama Dr. Jones on KZbin sometime yall would be great. Sorry for the lengthy comment you're just really amazing!

I have tried several different tools recommended to me by my doctors but I have not been able to tolerate any of them. I am not all the way there but I am getting there, I can't tell you how grateful to have found your channel!

I'm in pelvic floor PT for bladder and bowel issues. It's definitely helpful for so many disorders and all kinds of people. For me I insisted for a while that some of my GI struggles seemed to be due to my muscles, but GI doctor said that's not possible and erroneously listed constipation as one of my symptoms. I actually have pelvic floors dysfunction that affects my bladder etc. It's always important to listen to your body and also investigate all the options.

Hiya Maggie, thank you for this video. It was a reminder for me, to do my pelvic floor muscles exercises. I had a hysterectomy a long while ago, then an all in prolapse, which affected bladder, bowels, urethra etc.. everything down there is tight, and exercises have helped, but, ive been slack for a bit. Also need to do the neck/shoulder e exercises too... I really appreciate your informative posts. You're an angel, and ur followers are blessed, tc from Adelaide, South Australia xx

The exercises you did at the end for your back are done in yoga. The one with the rolled blanket underneath you with arms stretched wide, is one of my favourites. It feels so good! I love 🧘🏻 and do it once a week, online zoom class. Keeps me stretched out. Stomach breathing is done every class. It’s amazing how everyone’s muscles can get tight. I think everyone needs regular stretching. I am considering getting a roller too. I just wasn’t sure how to use one. Thanks for the demo, great to see the exercise actually done on screen. have a great nite!✨

Thank you for sharing about this important topic! I have friends that have had this therapy for different reasons and both found it beneficial. One friend was suffering from overactive bladder and some urinary incontinance. The other had a total hysterectomy, was healing and sought treatment for help with intimacy. With Crohn’s surgery on the horizon for me, I will be having a fistula removed from my bladder and may need a partial or complete hysterectomy due to the fistula and many adhesions. (This is in addition to the resection(s), ostomy relocation and parastomal hernia repair. 😱). I had planned to ask for a referral for pelvic floor therapy and your video sealed the deal. I did some research and found that “pelvic floor exercises are healing for all genders and strengthens the muscles around the bladder, bottom, and vagina or penis. Strengthening pelvic floor muscles can help urinary incontinence, treat pelvic organ prolapse, and make sex better too. Everyone can benefit from doing pelvic floor exercises.” Thank you, Maggie, for being so helpful, honest and caring!💖

So thankful for this knowledge. Slightly different situation for me (bowel cancer & surgery to removed parts :-/). I’m in so much pain down below & abdomen & my leg. I’ve ordered the foam roller to try as my oncologist after ruling out cancer going to my bones & bone death has just prescribed long term pain relief. I’d much rather try other methods such as these exercises etc I’ll need preventative hysterectomy surgery in my future, so again I am thankful to watch this video & be aware of what could be in store post that surgery & know that I can ask about pelvic floor therapy & dilators if needs be. It sometimes feels doctors don’t tell you about half these things & just throw pain killers at you.

Foam rollers are the best. As a runner i roll all of those muscles - and my IT bands 😭. I feel like everything we do our bodies adapt in certain ways. But overly tight muscles cause all kinds of problems. So glad such an inexpensive tool makes such a difference. Also laying on the roller is amazing if you sit at a desk all day too - i recommend that to everyone

This also happens with a hysterectomy. You remove an organ that's provides structural support and bad things happen. Shame surgeons don't tell ya that. It's kinda really important and incompetent for them not to talk about that. Sorry you are having problems. It sucks.

Thank you so much for this video Maggie. It is a pity that your gynae team did not inform you of the muscle changes that would result from your surgery and refer you to a specialist sooner. You may also be interested in Buteyco breathing exercises which emphasise the importance of inhaling and exhaling through the nose as this automatically engages the diaphragm. Wishing you well and take care.

Question: have your newer gi symptoms become aligned with the time since starting PF therapy? When I did it for bladder dysfunction (neurogenic bowel and bladder/ interstitial cystitis related), it also created changes in my gi issues as well, including reflux. It started to regulate a month or so after finishing the 12 week pf program here.

I wish my mom could've benefited from pelvic floor therapy when it could've mattered. But there's something about that generation that doesn't like to speak up to their dr's. My mom had her bladder prolapse through her vaginal wall back in her mid 40's. She had a hysterectomy in her mid 20's, and I think this contributed to the bladder issue. Even after her gyno discovered what was going on, there was zero referral for therapy. My mom is almost 76 now, has Alzheimers, and recently had a partial hip replacement, because she thought she was younger than she is... there are days that I have to encourage her to wear disposable underwear now. It makes me sad that some simple exercises could've helped my mom!
