An INTJ and INTP have a conversation. The INTJ suggests that the INTP should write a book, and share his thoughts with the world... but the INTP is reluctant. This video highlights the difference between Te (Extraverted Thinking) and Ti (Introverted Thinking) usage:
The INTJ says, "Why don't you write a book?.. You can help humanity by sharing your ideas" (Te use). The INTP says, "I don't really care about that... I work on things because it satisfies my own curiosity" (Ti use).
INTJs use Extraverted Thinking (Te) as their second cognitive function, and
INTPs use Introverted Thinking (Ti) as their dominant cognitive function.

As an INTP myself, I know that the INTJ is right: I should actualise my ideas and share them with the world, and it isn't that I don't want to. It's just not my basic instinct to work hard. I have to force myself to work hard with strict discipline even if I want to get the smallest thing done. Te doesn't come naturally to me, even when I recognise that Te types are right.

That pretty much describes my relationship with my INTJ partner me being the INTP. For me satisfying my curiosity and know truth(s) for me takes precedence above all; whilst my INTJ partner is more focussed on making money, efficiency and planning for the future.

Very interesting. As an INTJ, I've had a lot of great interactions with INTPs. It's allowed me to see the similarities and differences between these types. Ne-Ti and Ni-Te can be really complementary.

literally me and my INTJ friend. I'm actually not sure if I'm an INTP or ENTP, because I'm kinda talkative and I even might like being around people, but I'm more Ti-Ne, than Ne-Ti. in fact, we are very similar, but we are perceived as complete opposites.we argue quite often, especially lately, since we have to work on the same project together.he is not happy that I completely ignore the practical side of the issue and rarely be specific. he annoys me because he puts too many limits and loves control too much. and I cannot feel in him the same passion that I have. he doesn't really like discussions, unlike me, which leads to conflicts. But I'm still convinced that we are very similar, but he's just wrong. (Yes, I'm VLEF and ILE, if it wasn't obvious)

How do you account for the many INTPs who work in the STEM fields?

Thanks for asking this question. This is a topic I have thought a lot about. I first became interested in MBTI because I have observed a difference between how Te vs Ti usage tends to manifest itself in math and engineering fields. I'm an INTJ and have worked with several Ti-doms; INTPs and ENTPs. Both Te and Ti types are drawn to STEM fields, but I have observed this pattern: Ti users are more drawn to rigorous mathematics, while Te users are more drawn to science and engineering. Ti users enjoy rigorous mathematics because Ti and mathematics, or logic, are almost equivalent. Ti users desire to use language in an extremely precise way, and this is achieved in the well defined precise world of rigorous mathematics. Te users are more drawn to science, engineering, and physics. Te users prefer to use mathematics as a tool to achieve something in those fields. The question is: "how does the world work?" This requires gathering and processing empirical data (Te) and coming up with an imprecise theory about it (like in physics), which Ti users might find to be incomplete or based on insufficient information. Ni-Te users will make "informed guesses" about what might be true or work, and then "test" it with Te observations; Ti users want to theoretically "logically prove" ideas with their strong internal Ti logic, without the need for empirical testing. What strikes me is the difference in end goals that Te vs Ti users tend to have. Te users want to have a practical end result, while Ti users might focus more on the theory. While both Te and Ti users can be drawn to theoretical work, the end goal is different. The Te ask, will this work, and who will use this? For the Ti users, the goal is figuring out the logic, rather than focusing on the practicality of the end result. I also see differences in working styles between Ti-Ne and Ni-Te users: Ti users will tend to get drawn into the details immediately; they start putting Ti logic together right away. The Te-Ni users (INTJs) will instead ask: what is the big picture here? Are we working on the right problem? Te users don't want to go into the Ti details right away. This can bug the Ti users; why won't you sit down and work on the logic right now? Okay this got long! Are you in or have worked in a STEM field?

So if you are tagging curiosity as 'Ti', are you saying that TPs are the most curious 4 types? Or perhaps each type is curious about different things eg there will be things the FeSx (Collaborator Guardian) is curious about that the TiNx will find uninteresting and vice versa. When it comes to curiosity for IDEAS; that is usually NPs. The SiTx E6w5 can be very curious about factual details. They do tend to win pub quizzes after all those ISTJ resemblers.

Here I'm not tagging "Ti" as "general curiosity", but rather curiosity paired with an individual mindset that doesn't necessarily desire to share their work with the world or impact other people. In comparison, the Te types tend to focus more on producing a practical result and want to see their work impact the world. Both Ti and Te, and all types, have a lot of general curiosity. I agree with what you say, NPs are curious about "ideas"; NPs with their Ne, go through many ideas. In comparison NTJs are also curious about ideas but then say, "so what?" Is that idea practical? NTJs with their Ni, want to focus on a few good ideas. The Si doms can beat us all at pub quizzes with their focus on facts and good memory!

@@sylviaowega3839 Agreed and I would add that Enneafix fixation 5 is also a factor. The TiNx is frequently E5 fixated. However, this TiNx resembler is fixated thus: E641w7. I suggest you look up the "Strategic Intellect of Rationals" on KZbin and not just because I made the video. It will go thru two socially intelligent roles which correlate to the social plane of Ti and Ne working in tandem (Construction of theories and models) and Ni & Te working in tandem (coordination of resources towards longterm strategic objectives).

I believe it is safer to see enneagram as a system of fixations rather than 'types'. I've also done videos on - the Logistical Intellect of Guardians with an ISFJ resembler and an ESTJ resembler (Christen). She's an example of creative subtype of ESTJ. Yes, that is possible. :) - the Tactical Intellect of Artisans with two SFPs.
