Super helpful content here. The INTP starts with logic and makes abstractions whereas the INTJ starts with abstractions and uses logic to achieve their abstract visions. Thanks for sharing.

@leif viking Asura didn't say Einstein was more intelligent than Tesla so why are you insinuating he was wrong? Strawman aside, importance is "obviously" subjective, and intelligence-quantifying is up for debate as well. Why always the pissing contest between young INTJs and INTPs over who is smarter? Does it really matter on the whole? At the end of the day, you are neither Tesla nor Einstein. I'd rather see people claim their own accomplishments than try to rest on the laurels of others with whom they think they have something in common. Newton was brilliant but he also valued humility and said if he had seen further it was only because he had stood on the shoulders of giants. Also, WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING? DO YOU REALIZE WHEN YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS IT MAKES YOU SEEM LIKE A RAVING LUNATIC?

@@tshaolin971 Einstein saying Tesla was smarter demonstrates Einstein's humility (and Fe) rather than proving Tesla was _actually_ smarter. Besides, if you want to go down that road and entertain that possibility, wouldn't the smarter of the two be the most competent judge of intelligence? Furthermore, in light of Dunning-Kruger effect, it is statistically more likely for the person who self-assesses as less-competent to be more competent, and the person who identifies themselves as smarter to be less so. Whether Tesla was more intelligent than Einstein may or may not be true. My point was that it doesn't really matter and has no bearing or relevant impact on our lives.

As an INTJ I have noticed that about myself regarding knowledge only being temporary and tendency to discard it after its done being used so I have made sure as I learn to record what I have learned in detail so if I have to go back and use the information again I would not have to relearn it. Its particularly important with very large technical projects.

you can just boil it down to your main and secondary functions. go look for the cognitive functions and what they are and pick what you agree the most as your main function. then pick the 2nd most that you agree on and that will be your secondary function. then find what type has those 2 functions and settle on that as your type.

You don't have to define your personality around either though. Whatever you can identify as your functions and way of thinking is, is your personality. This is just a broad description. I find myself both an intp and an intj too.

While we often treat each type as a discrete category each component (like P vs J) is actually more of a continuum with P at one end and J at the other. Most people will fall more to one side than the other, but its quite possible and valid for you to be in the middle of that continuum. In fact, when you take the MBTI there is a numerical value assigned to each trait so that you can see how strongly you identify with that component.

I'd also add that while both types like a degree of external order, INTJs prioritise this far more than the INTP, who conversely is more concerned with the logical order of their internal world. The former type is also hyper specific and tends to manifest all these ideas in reality like you mention, whereas the INTP seems to enjoy pursuing a vast amount of things at any one time and is as you say more willing to deconstruct and reconstruct their own understanding. What's your opinion on different forms of intelligence, and have you ever tried placing this within a Jungian continuum? Often the INTJ exhibits what is in my mind a radically different 'kind' of intelligence than the INTP, even within the confines of intellectualism. I absolutely agree with the INTJ and INFJ having similar levels of detachment! Great stuff as usual.

Do any other teenage INTPs (and probably INTJs too) find school boring and silly but love to pursue their own interests and almost obsessively learn their own thing out of school (or multiple things maybe in case of INTPS), gain lots of knowledge and progress in that, and prefer to be thought of as smart in regards to that while not really caring if they don't get top grades? Eg creative writing, online business, language learning, or just researching random areas of interest online! (And questioning the illogical school system!)

I guess these types would tend to exhibit such tendencies (though I'd like to point out that any other type could also do the same). In my case I find that it's my ENXP friends who are most likely to pick up many random skills outside the school curriculum. I roughly remember I had an ENTP classmate who was teaching me how to write a message in braille in the middle of math class (cuz we already had some knowledge of the topic and we were bored). In another class, ENFP sitting beside me was sharing about anime and politics (at that time I couldn't care less about American politics so I was awed by how much they knew). Needless to say we got called out by our teachers, but without them I think school would be much less interesting.

I like to think that INTJ's knowledage absorbtion works like computer RAM (Random access memory). The memory is rapidly filled with data, opened applications etc and then completely discarded from memory freeing up the memory and allowing the memory to be rapidly filled again. I have noticed this on myself when learning things. Very high obsessive drive towards specific topic and then discard 95% of that knowledage and keep 5% that yielded the best results and allowed me to accomplish what I want. This made me feel stupid many times because I didn't seem to remember things, but instead had "experience" and reference points to the lost knowledage to relearn it again if needed. Also I constantly envision ideas, but struggle a lot developing details for those ideas and as a result I dismiss the ideas altogether as useless because of that. I started to think that these things are some sort of defects of mine, but listening to this video gave me insight that not only there is a high probability I'm an INTJ, but also validated the way I think. I really enjoyed this video and organic explanation of these two types. Thanks Asura, subbed.

The INTP is the quintessential college professor. The INTJ is the strategist and leader. And as an INTJ, I can tell you that we do not ignore details. We can get lost in the details more than anyone. *Irrelevant* details are the problem. Separating relevant details from irrelevant details is the J function. Now, ultimately, we do prefer to delegate the details if possible. And ISTJs are great for that. But when coming up with the plan, we want to know everything about the subject backwards and forwards. Separating the wheat from the chaff is the difference here. INTPs just like the intellectual exercise for its own sake. They Perceive - taking things in. INTJs Judge - deciding what serves the objective and what doesn't. "On the other hand" is a good INTP phrase. "Cut to the chase" is more INTJ. As an INTJ, I find that one of my greatest strengths is learning fast, and that happens because I'm good at determining what's good information and what isn't, and ignoring that which is irrelevant or inaccurate. And here I am dissecting your video and telling you what you got wrong.

I think the primary difference to seperate the two is to pay attention to their intuitions. Jung said Ne, while floaty and abstract, still relies on present and past concretized data to form a vision or idea. Basically, connecting various objects together in the outside world to form a specific concrete impression of the "reality" of the object. These personal impressions are often clung to not because its all encompassing or symbolic of a greater future or vision, but because its smaller and more grounded. Si is the grounding force of any NeSi type, they view memories and impressions are paramount, as something to be repeated into the near future. In short, Ne takes conceptual, obscured outside data to form a detailed reality seperate from external tampering. This can be in the form of a novel lifestyle, or even in the creation of storjes or worlds for the sake of it. Because of this, NeSi is more timeless and understandable when academically viewing it. It's its own little thing seperate of the happenings and tends of the outside world. An Ne dom, despite its tendancy to drift off into fantasy, will still be linked to happenings in a vague, detached way. If Si doms produce HIGHLY detailed visions and impressions of factual objects and happenings, Ne turns these already subjective images and videos into roarshach blotches of these happenings and facts. Si doms take photographs of literal events, methodically placing them into a filing cabinent or library of knowledge. Ne doms, on the other hand, do the same thing, but afterwards, they alter and color-shift the image into an unrecognizable form until it is either deleted or tossed aside into a pile of scattered paper. Wheras NiSe, from my observation, is highly opposed to this sort of thinking. Ni forms a vision detached from reality, yet oddly enough, encompassing reality itself. NiSe is more intesested in reality outside of themselves insofar as they pay attention to the concrete moment. They observe happenings amd details in their enviornment directly and unbiased to form a biased, subjective philosophy or symbol around it. Ni needs external happenings and details to form its symbols, but unlike Ne, who directly harvests and sucks in ideas, Ni sucks in happenings and literal events for inspiration, hence its direct, albiet unconcious, connection to reality depending on its placement in the stack. So, an xSxP will view reality itself as all there is, yet it will be aware that an underlying symbolic realoty exists underneath the surface to tamper with, its just trivial and meaningless compared to reality. The Ni dom generally tends to view its symbols as reality, and the external world of literal events as meaningless or subservient to these grand futures. "A sea of fruitless fantasies," if you will.

Well we like to see the big ideas quickly to get to the point to see if it's worth our time. Skip the details until we find something worthwhile. If it is worth our time then we can worry about the details. Although that being said we probably won't care how hard or how much we need to sacrifice to do it once we commit.

The interesting fact about Introverted Intuition is that it works unconsciously. So, even if we drop what we have learned, it remains in the subconscious - and if we ponder about a problem, a solution using all that hidden knowledge pops out of nowhere - and that can be the application of a principle we have learned long time ago in a complete different context. But about the details - I don't know. As a method of approaching a new field (as INTJ), that is true: First try to work out how the big picture works and from there follow the lines of the details. But in general, I am an Improver: If I handle something, I quickly see which details aren't satisfying and need improvement, and then I want (and do) fix these. As a result, everything I make is very much perfect on all the details, but that may be also depending on me being an Enneagram five - one. And about the suppressed functions: I don't think that is the right name for it. In contrary you can see them obviously as they are named: INTPs have Extroverted Feeling and as result, they express their feelings to the outer world. INTJs have Extroverted Sensing and at least for me, that means manually interacting with the world, like crafting the things I have thought of or doing sports and such. And because the types lack the other types' function, INTJs Expression of Feelings is stone-cold and INTPs struggle with physically interacting with their environment.

I understood the repressed function to be something that you care about, but aren't very good at. Some of what you said about the repressed functions sounds to me like a description of the blind spot. I agree for instance that the INTP is very aware of details in the things they are interested in, but to me it seems like they have trouble being aware of what's actually physically present. The functions they use to deal with the details (Ti and Si) are both introverted and therefore subjective. In my experience, an INTJ, if he wants, can be more physically present with his immediate surroundings, although his knowledge of his interests is indeed generally less detailed. From what I've seen, INTPs do care about the social environment, and are sometimes self-conscious about how bad they know they are at it. But they don't know how late they are and they can't find their glasses (polar Se). The INTJ on the other hand does want to improve his sensory perception. But he can't be bothered to care about the wider social environment.

I was wondering if someone more knowledgeable could help me figure out if I an an INTJ or INTP. When I first learned about the Myers Briggs system, I was sure I was an INTJ I read a lot about them and their tendencies and trusted that the 16 personalities test was all knowing (lol). But now that I’ve looked into it a little more and watched some videos, I’m not so sure. I know I am definitely introverted, being situations with new people or large groups is exhausting for me. I am a very studious student, and I’m the annoying kid that raises there hand for literally every question, (we are aware we’re annoying, trust me). I would say I’m not an emotionally driven person, but I do have outbursts of emotions. As a perfectionist, if I don’t think I’ve gotten an answer right, or don’t know what to do on a quiz or test, it triggers an over dramatic response in me.... its pretty pathetic. I also seek to understand not only how to do something, but why it is the way it is. For example in math, I become frustrated if I learn a topic and don’t understand why it happens that way. I feel like I’m going to make mistakes If I don’t understand the fundamental framework behind things. I am also a fairly creative person. I draw a lot, and enjoy doing hyperrealism from references. I am not good at making original art, but I can copy someone’s pet from a photo well enough to sell them, (I do lol). Is this information useful for typing, or is there anything else that would be helpful? I know one youtube comment won’t definitively determine my type, but I just wanted some insight from someone other than myself due to biases and an attachment to the INTJ struggle lol.

From what you've written it definitely sounds like you're an INTP. However, it's completely normal and pretty common for people to toe the line between types. I, for example, am mostly an INTJ, but have a little bit of an INTP inside, especially with my attention to detail combined with seeing the whole picture. I acted like this in school as well. I was always the teacher's pet. However, I know I'm INTJ more so because of their negative qualities. It is very hard for me to interact with people. INTJs have the iconic death stare when they're busy in their inner world. People have to repeat themselves many times before my mind can snap back to reality and process what they said for me to respond. INTP, from what I've seen, don't do this at all. Also, I've been addicted to sensory stimulation one too many times in my life.

Maybe a topic for a future video? e.g. why might an individual be a close match to both types, and what factors might bump them from one side of the line to the other at various points in their lives? Curious if this has been studied before, or if not, what are your theories?

INTP here. Very good summary and accurate, at least for me. Internal logical structure based on my database of knowledge. Plenitude of ideas that never materialise and also a multitude of interests such as MBTI being one while I'm also learning to code and reading political philosophy texts. Like debating but my function to turn text to speech isn't very good so I'm not verbally articulate despite having a very complex internal conversational system. Definitely relate to emotional outbursts in my teenage year. Often feel disconnected from my emotion and physical being. Like I'm a 'soul' in an avatar, often referring to my physical body as a vessel, 'This body needs food'.

Lol this whole time I’ve thought I was an INTJ because almost everything described me, but now I’m realizing I have a lot of INTP tendencies as well. For example when he talks about emotionally gauging others, I would say I’m extremely good at that. I have that “physic” system going on where I internally pick up on things without knowing and end up compiling them to make a prediction or guess. I also wouldn’t say that I struggle with “being in the moment”. Yes, I would say quite often I’m doing a multitasking thinking process but I’m not really in that day dreaming phase where people have to say my name. I’m aware, but I’m in my own world as well. Any insight? :) Edit: he talks about how both types struggle with stress. And of course, I do both. I lash out due to repressed emotions, but I also notice addicting sensory coping habits that I feel I need to do when I get home from school. Another INTP habit: I love debating and being right... something I need to work on. I do think the reasoning behind this is confirming and testing my internal beliefs and knowledge.

So this is the video that made it finally clear to me that i did NOT mistype as an INTJ. INTP clearly has similarities, but when you were talking about the repressed Functions i could not relate to the INTP at all, since reading vibes in a room is kinda my thing. SE on the other hand is totally my repressed function. I can be so detached that i wont notice a person i know walking by cause i am in the middle of daydreaming. But the stereotypical INTJ isnt for me, i am almost always procrastinating, which i think stems from my kinda underdeveloped TE and being in the NIFI Loop atm. It feels like i am not moving at all cause i lack a clear goal and thus motivation. So i think a depressed? INTJ might easily mistype as INTP

Personally, I think it's worth noting that both types (actually anyone in general) can lash out when they've repressed their negative feelings long enough to reach a certain breaking point. After all we're all humans with emotions, right? The best way to differentiate between Fe and Fi, in my humble opinion, would be the reasons behind their anger, and possibly how the anger manifests itself (eg cold vs hot). Ever sense I've done the Personality test, one thought has always crossed my mind. What about autistic people? Now autism is something that plays with the wiring in your head. How does that change them, from a personality stand point? How closely do they follow the type, and how they don't. From the few ones that I have met they seem to have a higher likely hood in being IN-- types. One of them was a fairly close friend (which at that time I had no clue that he was autistic) which I now suspect to be an INTJ. But he didn't fully follow it, he was some weird amalgamation of other personality types. I would like to hear ideas about this, and or odd storys.

While taking the personality assessment, I was not sure to select on "Agree" or "Partially Agree" based on the questions asked. Since MBTI is used in the hiring space as well to identify the personality of the talent. What I have seen is people tweak their answers as per to the outcomes. Is there any personality test developed which does not ask any question and can understand the personality?

This is a very good review. I might refer people who struggle with INTP vs INTJ to this video. Could you do INTP vs INFP? I find that's another common mistyping. What do you think about the theory that Carl Jung was an INFJ? Didn't he describe himself as an introverted intuitive type? I take this to mean Ni-dominant, based on the way he wrote, but theoretically it could mean introverted + intutive. BTW, I took a peak at your previous version of this video and realized I had already watched it a long time ago. I didn't realize you were the same person. I specifically recall thinking you seemed to have a slight bias towards INTJs in that first video, which is understandable given your type, but this one seems a little more evenly-weighted. Good job!

Personally I'm stuck between INTJ and INTP. My question is, are INTPs really the more creative between the two? The INTPs I've met don't usually do a whole lot to demonstrate this. They do spend a great deal of time learning, but they don't really apply that to anything creative. They can do art, but it's often pretty generic.

Bee Gee INFPs are the opposite. They lead with a judging function, Introverted Feeling. Their second function, Extroverted Intuition, is a perceiving function that is expressed outwardly. As a result, INFJs appear more structured, rigid, and analytical, whereas INFPs appear more open, spontaneous, and artistic.

INTPs are creative with their ideas. INTJ are more creative with concrete physical things. That's why INTJs can be percieved as more creative because their creations are physical and everyone can see them. For INTPs their creations are typically abstarct ideas about very specific topics they are not going to share unless they are asked.

Finishing something to show off for the public would be a ton of busywork to iron out small details, which is a majority of the time. INTPs usually obsess over whether a problem is solvable, and attack the interesting part of the problem, and when they have found a solution and know that something is possible, they usually don't find it meaningful to do all the boring busywork to actually realize it into something useful or visible to the public. so myself i have lots and lots of source code, circuit boards, microcontroller projects, and schematics that could be finished and showed off, but when the hard problem is proved solvable we'd rather find a new problem than finishing something into a releasable state.

Hmm. Not so sure I agree with this. For one, INTPs are totally clueless about their surroundings too. Perhaps you don't agree with the eight function model with the whole 'shadow' (I don't think the term is used the same as Jung initially intended, but I still think the concept is valid), but I've found elements of it pretty insightful. For one, it accounts for the fact that both INTPs and INTJs tend to a) be clueless about their surroundings and b) struggle with social values. Their trickster and inferior functions are swapped. INTPs daydream just as much as INTJs (in a very different way, they are much less prone to actualizing any of it), but they typically aren't insecure about their lack of sensory awareness. Often it's not even on their radar. On a similar note, I've often observed INTJs as very oblivious to societal values, but they're usually quite satisfied by their Fi morality and so don't feel as insecure about their lack of Fe. INTPs on the other hand are quite insecure about it, because they have no Fi to fall on (or any healthy kind at least), and their lack of skills can often cause them to repress the inferior function to dangerous levels, actively rebelling against their own wants and desires. The issue isn't so much awareness as it is inadequacy and self-sabotage. As far as the holding emotions in and then blowing up, in my experience it's not even a true bottling effect. INTJs can stew as they have some Fi awareness, but for INTPs such explosive episodes are equally as inexplicable to them as to others. It's a flash of Fi demon, and comes from a near entirely unconscious area. Though it should be noted, some INTPs aren't as angry as they can come off, they just have no idea how to gauge the expression to effectively communicate the level of frustration they're feeling. This is Se trickster acting. INTJs on the other hand are the reverse. When upset, they often try to hold it in, but Se inferior is poor at this, which can add to their insecurity and frustration. Still, it is typically better maintained than INTP anger because they are conscious of it and actively trying to control it. INTPs DEFINETLY fall into bad sensory habits. Laziness and apathy are some of the core weaknesses of the type, and the first signs to look for to see if an INTP is unhealthy is if they are binging, overeating, tuning out reality to a more extreme extent etc. Si child makes them especially prone to seeking comfort, which makes Ti-Si loops quite self-reinforcing, while Fi demon is perhaps most consistently expressed in depressive self-indulgence.

Sedna Floating Since Introverted Sensing is a Perceiving function, it can be understood, much like Introverted Intuition (Ni), as acting rather passively and outside of conscious control. Like INJs, SJs often experience a strong sense of conviction, a gut feeling about whether some is true or false, right or wrong. Introverted Feeling (Fi) is a function that deals with the person’s own individual feelings and beliefs. Unlike Extraverted Feeling (Fe), which responds to the environment and others emotions, Introverted Feeling deals with morals and what the person truly believes. Introverted Feeling is more in depth and complex. People with Introverted Feeling tend to be on a quest to figure out who they are and what they want out of life. Ideally, they would like everything they do to be in congruence with their personal believes. They want to live a life as true to themselves as possible. Hope this helps

Did anything changes ? since ?" if there is more people I might just shut the fuck up, looking if anyone has another thing to add.... Even i'm sure it wont be the case. - I tend to let people try to solve their problem on their own (even if I have the solution, or I think I have it), because it seems much rewarding for them. I only help people if it can facilitate my future - I don't mind making mistakes, It helps me learn. I even prefer making a mistake that is "my own" instead of following a guide that explain to me how to do something(while learning new things). But for example when mounting a new furniture it's just stupide to not use the manual, because it's how it's supposed to be mounted. - If I would be promoted to a more 'social' post, I would probably resign. Alaa Almatyri When Jung studied human behavior, he noticed that people have the capability to make decisions based on two very different sets of criteria: Thinking and Feeling. When someone makes a decision that is based on logic and reason, they are operating in Thinking mode. When someone makes a decision that is based on their value system, or what they believe to be right, they are operating in Feeling mode. We all use both modes for making decisions, but we put more trust into one mode or the other. A "Thinker" makes decisions in a rational, logical, impartial manner, based on what they believe to be fair and correct by pre-defined rules of behavior. A "Feeler" makes decisions on the individual case, in a subjective manner based on what they believe to be right within their own value systems.this might help you understand your own standpoint on your “ type” or last “function stack”
