I know this video is older but Tim could you by chance could you tell me how you went about making the trim sheet are these designs/textures from reference? I'm blown away about how cool this looks and shocked to know that it came from only 1 trimsheet.

pretty much the same workflow as my trim sheet tutorial series, just with scifi shapes and designs, but the overall process is pretty much idential, mapping interesting panel lines and details with just bashing around the UVs on meshes haha.

I'm confused about texel density. I watched a tutorial where he said 256 x 256 units equals 2048 resolution. Same centimetre units for unreal engine he was using as a display in 3ds max. saying 1 unit is 1cm. He had the mannequin next to the trimsheet, but another texel density tutorial said it's 400 x 400 units equals 2048, He also was using the same Centimetre units which is what unreal engine uses. he did not have the manikin in that scene, so i couldn't see the comparison. I have my Maya grid and measurement units set to centimetres, but i'm confused, is it 400 units or 256 units to get to 2048?

texel density is whatever you decide you want it to be for your project. everyone uses different metrics, the more important thing is that you are consistent with it as much as possible. for example, most ps4 games like god of war/uncharted aim for 256-512px/m density depending on the game. so a 4m section of wall would most likely use a 1024 texture tiled 4x. a more modern/future looking texel density would be about 1024px/m or higher. so in your case a 400 unit square wall would be a 2048 tiled 4x or one 4k texture, but those are still pretty expensive and not used a lot. im going to make a video explaining texel density soon :)

@@PolygonAcademy That was helpful. I found alot of information about vertex normals and decals. Been playing around. I would definitely love a tutorial because I'm curious about the workflow you used to get it in unreal engine. There seems to be multiple ways and software to go about it and I'd love to know how you did it :)
