Into the Faddisphere by Jon Faddis from his album "Into the Faddisphere". Crazy screaming going on throughout the entire video.

An amazing jazz trumpeter showing his agility in the upper registers. I had the rare privledge of backing him up in Modesto, Ca. He one of the most inventive and tasteful musicians alive today. Once again Dizzy found another Genius!!

I've heard Jon play this in-person before and he makes it look so effortless! Jon is such a nice person to talk to and incredibly humble; also quite a ham.

I actually owned that horn after Jon sold it. Very special piece.....

The amazing thing about Faddis is that his low range is as strong as his high range. Not many people in the world that can do what he can do on the trumpet. A handful, if that. His high range is like a needle going through your eye. (in a good way :)

Faddis is just blowing free in this. Sounds like he is having so much fun just blasting through the horn's limitations.

It's sad to read all the comments here - All musicians have their strengths and weaknesses, good and bad days - music shouldn't be about who is the best or who is better than who - it should be about mutual respect.

A lead player, by definition, is the first chair in a big band who leads the band in sound, style, phrasing, etc. Jon Faddis is primarily a soloist. There is a difference.

One of the very few players, possibly the only player, whose intonation is uniformly good. I don’t detect notes that are sour or that grate which is astonishing given the register he plays in.

I met Jon in 1994 in Spfld Ohio where he was on tour with some cats along with Clark Terry. He had no idea who I was at that time. I was lead trumpeter for the Ohio Players. He was a total ass hole jerk, when I told him I was a trumpet player. Played me off like a nobody, and refused to take a photo with me.Clark Terry showed me how to circular breathe at that time. Big props to Mr. Terry.

@CoreyCookEnsemble I can see how he would come across that way. I met Jon at a concert once and actually got to go to dinner with him after. He took the time to sit and talk with me about music and life for about 2 hours. He then gave me his phone number and email. We're still friends to this day. I wouldn't call him a "complete egotistical asshole", just an extremely dry sense of humor. If you know that going in and dish it right back at him he loves it and will laugh with you for hours

Besides the off the chain artistry of Mr.Faddis,this tune has an incredible funky drive.Although the pianist here is not LesMcCann(who passed away yesterday 1/2/24)it has that kind of feel.

Everybody is entitled to his own opinion, but the facts speak for Faddis when it comes to him having the most powerful chops. No other trumpeter has such full notes in the high register as he.

Try setting up the stage for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and just to annoy you, Jon takes his trumpet and aims it right at you and screams the hightest note right in your ear! hahah hes a riot!!!
@SoaringTrumpet13 жыл бұрын
Nobody can do what Faddis does. Period. Arturo can hit the high notes, sure...but just thin enough to squeal by. Maynard can play with those high notes (and he really is the King of high note trumpet performance )...but Jon can fully fill out high notes better than any trumpeter in existence. Respect.

Classic forward jaw embouchure. Usually referred to as an "Upstream" chop setting. I've finally found a way of converting to Jon's embouchure but let me tell ya. Wasn't a picnic. The Stevens-Costello Triple C Embouchure Technique actually teaches you to play Thurs way. That said? .i had to discover some crucial points left out of the book. But now I'm FINALLY getting it. It's totally BAD ASS guys. . Like I struggle with the beginning here because it requires too much damned articulation. This takes a more seasoned high note player.. Thank you Mr Faddis! PS I liked that joke you told about your spoiled ex wife. "You treat me SO BADddd"? To die for Fave parts: 2:38 (I can actually play most tge notes in this one lol) And, 3:33 Where Jon hangs an A flat/high C and proceeds to sustain KILLER notes and it all fits musically!!!
@chicoassmaster42933 жыл бұрын
I'm buying 0 of what you say Jorge. Except yes Roy Stevens method 100.
@chicoassmaster42933 жыл бұрын
Not about forward jaw alignment. That's how I know you are bullshitting Its about jaw alignment teeth alignment jaw slightly forwards if you are normal & lowers jaw juts towards the bavk (underbite) Jaw back just a touch if you have an overbite. Idea is a flat surface for the lips to vibrate over. Avoids the great perils of pivoting. I studied with Roy Stevens in the 1970's!

@efravi25 Arturo Sandoval is a master himself. It is difficult to compare directly because the recording invironment itself contributes to some extent to what we hear. But I think Arturo could hold his own with Faddis, Ferguson or anyone else.
