I've been to most of the creeks around Australia but have only not long started filming, yes there are dangers but you just have to be aware of your surroundings and watch for signs, I've also been around most of the country photographing snakes and reptiles and have kept venomous snakes for years, you have to be careful, I have even had ticks so many times now I get a reaction to them, we have some nice wild places.

i have collected from this same spot before too, would be interested to see if you got variation in your fish as well. I have only managed to capture one with the same colours as the fish used in the thumbnail, all the rest are a pale orange with black stripe - same as the variants noted in angfa qld rainbowfish webpage

@@Nukeleuz Funny story, these may not even be Melanotaenia utcheensis, from what I've heard if I can remember properly, when they were first collected they may not of been from this creek and named, so down the track when they do DNA testing on these fish from all the surrounding creeks the Melanotaenia utcheensis name may be from a fish in another creek, so the Utchee Creek Rainbow may even be re-named and the Melanotaenia utcheensis may go to a fish from another creek, how weird will that be.
@Nukeleuz
@Nukeleuz 9 ай бұрын
Wow, that is weird! I would love to show you a picture of the one i captured from that location which looks true to type. I have been back twice now to try and capture another with the more fluro pink colours but no luck, had me thinking they may be more upstream from this location but i would need landholder access by the looks of it.

Dude, just started the vid, already well done. 👍 I had a few large tropical tanks. Made good friends with a then family run shop in the top dozen serious tropical fish suppliers in Australia. He used to ask about my setup, visited my house with his family and staff... just to see my 8' x 30x24. I had 86 fish in it. Yes 86, 36 species, and many were breeding in that commotion, including Bumble Bee Gobies.! 2 freshwater crabs, many feeder shrimp i made hides for, great cleaners and replaced easily. Thor...my longest lasting feeder shrimp, was about 6 or 9 months...dont remember exactly, but that tough guy ended up about 70mm long with attitude ❤😂. I over fed everything, growing and selling some because of my link with the shop. He knew my fish were looked aftervand disease free. I often sold fish back to him in exchange for something new...which was great. Panchax, rare neons, crabs, cats, sharks, .... i had them all, watched and learnt their needs. So 86 fish, biggest were my older Silver Scats, Dollars, Archer fish.... they were brilliant fun to feed. I made a sealed acrylic hood with flyscreen ends 300mm above the water, then lights. Add a few plants, add insects....entertaining 😂

Sorry for the novel...lol. just miss my tanks and can't have one anytime soon 😢 My original thought was.... im setting up to travel Oz for 2 years or more. Everywhere that tourists and "range rover" 4x4 people would never go. Troopy, WR250R, tinnie, custom trailer, drone, metal detector, infra-red night vision and 2kn listening units to do site security.... I'd actually love to go looking for some more interesting lil fellers to add to our understanding... People do a lap... They travel, stop, go... Im looking at just rambling along and knowing each place I visit. If you have any ideas of where you would like to explore, maybe we can chat? 😊 Cheers. Chris. Brisbane region atm. Travelling after Xmas

@albosmum5210

@@twistedvibrations4669 local knowledge is valuable. Nasty big snapping handbags (saltwater crocs) despite their common name are found in most freshwater creeks and rivers in Northern Australia, including these short fast-flowing coastal creeks in FNQ. Big waterfalls like Barron and Tully Falls are natural barriers, but not always,; the bas____ds can travel 100s of KM upstream from the Gulf of Carpentaria and pop up a long long way from the sea. eg the Mitchell River, whose headwaters are only just west of Cairns. Be croc wise......always!

Yes as said in the other comments, you can take 20 ornamental fish per species but we like to be sustainable and take less and breed them amongst our selves, we took 15 between us and then passed them onto one another to breed, there was no need to take anymore, look up bag limits for fish online you will see what you can and can't take, some fish are protected and others have different bag limits and size limits as well if they are table fish.
