I love all these, but a hugely underrated algae eating fish is the Molly. They are literally trash cans that eat darn near every type of algae. I had a massive hair algae outbreak while on vacation and while I removed a big chunk by hand (there was a ton), I added 4 Mollies and in 2 days, the hair algae was completely gone.

My Otos will take repashy. Also, I think most of the sucker-mouth fish will also eat biofilm or might even prefer it. So providing a passive source of that with wood or leaves is a good idea. Makes sense that mollies are good for string algae because my platies will grab almost any type of filamentous algae.

I have a few otos, and I got them to eat prepared food by getting the kind that sticks to the glass. They love Sera veggie tablets, but at first they only ate what fell off the tablets while they were stuck to the glass, then they figured out they could eat them directly. Now they fight off the snails to get them.

I had a couple of hillstream loaches in my community tank before and they did okay at first, and i did my best to keep them well fed. But it was difficult with all the other nano fish in the tank, i felt like they outcompete them when feeding. Same goes for corydoras. I tried feeding them at night, i tried switching the light off and then feeding them, but i still couldn’t get them to eat much 🙁 I planned on setting up a tank just for them and keep them, maybe somewhere in the future.

At this rate i need another aquarium just to contain my cuttings! my propagations need to be propagated😂 ive always wanted another algae eater since my childhood pleco was.. sent to a farm by my grandmother while i was moving, but I didnt have a big enough tank for her then, and i certainly dont now with a 15-20gal and a 5gal. Can someone please explain to me why a betta fish is $80? A really nice betta fish here in the UK they go for £20 or less.
@YasminWeaver7 ай бұрын
Totally depends on the type of betta, and the desirability of the colour. Cheap bettas here in Aus are 12 to 25 from most petshops, usually crowntails and veiltails in more common colours, sometimes deltas and halfmoons and some more unusual colours, but they edge up from there. But from specialised breeders they tend to cost more, then add to that if they're desirable colours (galaxy, koi, marble, avatar, etc). It's annoying, but that just seems to be the norm in my experience, and just seems to based in a combination of demand for a certain type, plus how hard it is to achieve that type/how many might come from one spwan. My cheapest betta cost me 12 (a red crowntail), my most expensive was 78 (a giant plakat male), and my middle of the road boy was 55 (a dumbo plakat). The rest of mine have generally been under 30.

Yea.. same problem. Pleco's too big and rough on plants, Chinese too aggressive, snails too invasive, and the good fish are too rare.
