I love the mist, it's always magical....same with snow, too. Therefore, i do adore the fall and winter season, not the creepy sun, and heat to excess.

My favourite thing with fog, the sound... or almost complete lack of sound, its never as quiet as it can be in a wood in the fog. And its glorious.

Complete solitude. The best thing ever. On my 2019 fall trip to the Sierra Nevadas, we stopped by Tuolumne Meadows to fish the river there. It was freezing cold and windy for a few hours, but after sunset arrived, it was the most still and quiet I had ever heard the forest before. Quiet enough to hear nothing but the ringing in your ears. Not even birds were chirping or singing. I've been to alot quiet places in the mountains but that one takes the cake. Such an amazing experience when the forest becomes so still and quiet.

Except for heavily falling snow with accumulation on the ground. Heavy snowfall refracts light in a very cool way as well, especially with a long exposure.

Hi Nick, beautiful day, "if you know what I mean". Was that some (poison ivy) you walked by at the beginning of the video? Maybe not, That's such an important aspect of photography to learn, that contrast creates a feeling of dramatics, and that little contrast, just the opposite, produces a calming effect to a viewer. To me the most important detail of a final image,, or visualization, is the (emotional impact) the print produces; composition, shadow/highlight detail, etc, although important, are just (technical details) and are usually terribly identified by the audience and considered just that, a "technical statement". Such an important lesson to learn. Bob.

As a long-time oil painter, and a beginning video/photo(within last year and half), must say, you witnessed and captured one of those rare moments. A year and half ago, I was at a wooded mountain, during/after a rain, late afternoon. The fog/mist was unbelievable. Always wish I had my cameras then. Yet, was starting out with Sony mirrorless, and knew little on settings. Having more knowledge since, yet still considering self a novice in this life of learning, praying to see and capture that moment you documented. As an oil painter of figurative, landscapes and still life, that subtle atmospheric lighting is more fascinating. The nuance of fog, along with sunlight beaming through...smh. Congrats!

Just stumbled across your channel and I’m really enjoying your vibe. I’ve shooting for many years, in many genres over the years. The past 9-10 years my focus has been street and documentary, and it still is. But I’m also an outdoor adventure type and recently decided that I want to start doing landscape and wild life, it’ll definitely get me out in nature more, if nothing else.

Very happy to see you out in the woodland again Nick, just be careful with those slippery trails. they are not good for your back. Talking from my own experience. Some amazing images, and it just show that woodland photography really can grant us with some spectacular moments as long as we get that fog and mist. Where I'm living the fog normally stays up in the mountains, above the tree lines, so I'm still dreaming of conditions like you had in this video. thanks for sharing your images, and for the tip.
