Hi Thomas how are you? I have wanted to tell you for a while that what you has been an inspiration to me. Your channel is the 8th wonder of the world in my opinion. My name is Reno Manne and I am a very well known coach...apparently. I have been watching your videos for over a year now. You make the world a better place, you really do. I have become a very enthusiastic photographer again after watching your videos. I had the love of photography since I was a boy but didn't find the inspiration to believe in myself as a photographer, being a famous coach leaves you with an identity if you know what I mean. Watching your videos has given me an inner peace and a direction to follow a hobby again that gives me joy. The joy of nature that has alway been in me, the want to capture natures beauty. Watching your channel has been that inspiration. Your channel is the best I have seen. Thank you for what you do Thomas.

I really appreciate your perspective and recipe of a great image, less clarity less vibrance less saturation less contrast , can't agree more. I also appreciate you would shoot in a day like this because most photographers only shoot at sunny days, magic hours, something like that. to me, misty , foggy , rainy days are part of the nature as well.

There is something calming about watching the set up of loading the film, setting up the tripod, mounting the camera, metering, and firing the shutter all in the still quietness of the woods. I really enjoyed the video and your photography journey.

That is a good recipe, be it film or digital. Beautiful shots. Mists are magical to say the least. Colors, textures, mist and subtle light...I'd say that woodland was the perfect place to be on that day. :) Definitely have had to "eliminate things" with no choice in the comp also, Photoshop and Bob's your uncle!. That Pylons in the mist is really nice. making something unattractive, attractive, nice! Liken the lichen!

I think the last shot was better for not having had more fog. There was enough mist there to give the forest a lot of depth, but the minimal amount of it allowed for quite a colorful image. Well done!

portra 400 is the swiss army knife of film photographers ! Great work as usual ! Unfortunately in my country, way too many hunters in the woods during this part of the year, too dangerous to go there and shoot. Even during lockdown, shops are closed, people can't go outside more than 1h, and have to stay in a 1km radius area, but hunters are allowed to go into the woods... anyway, not the point of the video but, even though woodland photography is not my favorite kind, I would love to go out and shoot some fall colors

I think all the images shown had a great look. I quite agree with the reasoning for using Portra in light of the intended look you were after. It would have been between either that, or Ektar for me, which of course is a nice middle ground between Portra and Velvia, in respect to contrast\vibrance\saturation. You must be a better people person than me for sure...whenever I am out with Blad and folks pass me, they never invite me to take their picture! They look at me like some kind of weirdo!!

00:15 It's been many, *many* years since I shot film, (silence kids, grandpa is telling stories :-) ) but there was always that mix of excitement and 'fear' when you opened the package of a new roll of film. Carefully pulling out the strip of film, juuuust enough to fit on the winding spool, so with some luck you would manage to squeeze not 36, but 37 or sometimes even 38 exposures out of it... Closing the back of the camera and then hoping you did it right and the film wouldn't slip off the spool without you knowing it... Yeah, all that came back when I saw Thomas load that roll of film in the camera :-)

Hello Thomas, I rather be short with youtube comments but this might become a long one, I hope its getting read regardless. I love when you go out in your local forests because they look very similar to the small wood areas I visit every day. I am actually not into wood photography naturally but b/c of my dog thats how it is at the moment. It is motivating to see you taking so beautiful pictures in those sometimes "trashy" (chaotic and not really nice...) forests. Sometimes I have to remind myself that my pictures are not bad just because they are not as good as yours. I think in generell really nice wood images are a very difficult task. I had sensational fog today and unlike your place the fog sometimes stays here the whole day (!!) - I would have loved to give you the fog I had today I am sure you would have done portfolio stuff with it ;) I at least was able to use it for an hour, so better than nothing. And btw I love that you shot film! I shot digital and a little bit of film (because I cannot afford film (€€€) regularely). I think your recent pictures with the medium film camera have sensationel depth (looks so 3D!), i love it and I am a little bit jealous ;) So keep up the good job and stay true Kevin from Tecklenburger Land Germany
