@@bigballs935 I'd teach my kid certain skills in progression of age, maybe a week after their birthday teach them something new of survival. So that in time they slowly learn because a child of that age shouldn't learn how to use a gun, because if that child kills someone I can only imagine the mental damage it would do. I'd just teach my children how to hide and where to go if something happens.

Basic first aid, fire arm safety (and like you said that could be as simple as “don’t touch em”) how to call 911 and what to say, stuff like this is valuable in society and in an “end of the world” scenario they love to theorize about

Some are a bit odd but having a few months of food, water and firearms/ammo should be normal. Grew up with the saying "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" getting tossed around a lot and i think the China flu showed a lot of people that it wasn't a bad thing to be ready for something like a natural disaster. Huge difference between being paranoid and being prepared.

@@perculated7666 A good deal of that is just the producers trying to 'sell the drama'... pretty much a staple of American entertainment (normal is boring, that's why Tinder is 'so interesting'). There are a bunch of things that simply being prepared intersects with, like gardening and first aid. There's the basic doctrine of 'beans, band-aids, and bullets'.

I really respect these documentaries because they DO answer the "what ifs" and teach techniques of living off the land sometimes. I just feel bad for the individuals who feel the need to live and die by this kind of lifestyle. Sure become a multimillionaire and build a spare bunker, but don't trade a house and normal life for your family.

I don't know about that. Most of these families look pretty darn close and they seem to enjoy prepping together. It seems like they aren't missing a thing about the so-called "normal life." Sure they don't have an annual trip to Disney but kids can actually survive without Mickey Mouse.

The canned food might still be good after 25 years. BUT, once you break the seal on the jar, like he did, (and put it back on shelf) all bets are off. It's now deteriorating and getting contaminated.

Unless you live you extremely rural, imo the best prep is to prepare to be mobile, and have several options, with traveling on foot expected, roads and highways will be easily jammed up so a dirt bike, atv etc may be a good option

Atv is a need definitely. But also a bicycle for local it's quiet. Many have chosen this van life and rv but when life changes..other laws kick in. Crossing states will be like crossing countries. No papers..going to the camps.

One big thing a lot of these people don’t think about, is if you wanna throw up a few cameras around your compound. I’d definitely suggest that you make them as unnoticeable as absolutely possible.. If you see cameras that typically would mean that there’s something worth protecting and likely worth trying to take away from another if there’s a opportunity to do so..

Doug was actually a family friend- I was a part of the groups he taught! Some people commented on him raising a child army, that was me lol. He was a surprisingly good guy. Terrifying, don't get me wrong, but he's incredibly intelligent. Much less scary when he's eating dinner with your family. Bryan is actually my dad! We spent a lot of time with Doug over the years.
