I flew this wonderful workhorse of an aircraft for 7 years and it’s still one of my favourite aircraft of all time. I truly enjoy flying her in the SIM now and it really takes me back to much better days of aviation. Now if someone can produce a DC-8 all my wishes would be complete!

I am currently flying as a Flight Engineer on one of the last 727s in the US, so in the interest of accuracy I will point out a few mistakes. At 8:45 you referred to the Yaw Damper Engage switches on the captains forward panel as “Fuel Dump Switches” …The fuel jettison (dump) panel is located on the Flight Engineer’s aft auxiliary panel, not on front panel. After you started the APU and you went back to the Battery indications, your video showed the DC AMPS needle off scale low to the left, which is a negative 50 AMPS. This needle should be closer to straight up pointing to -0+ After engine start the 2 white synchronization lights on the AC electrical panel should be blinking, not steady as your video shows. When you turn those FREQ adjusting knobs for each generator, those blinking lights will slow down and speed up. When the lights are extinguished (between blinks) that indicates that the generator is in a condition to accept parallel operation. Unlike the 707, the 727 has an auto paralleling feature and this manual paralleling procedure only come into use during some electrical malfunctions. Then, when you closed the #3 generator breaker, the RED Essential Power FAIL light came on. This is inaccurate since the APU will continue to power the Essential Bus and the red light will stay extinguished. The before takeoff checklist should have a step for arming the AUTO PACK TRIP SWITCH. On the after-takeoff checklist where you move the Auto Pack Trip Switch from NORMAL to CUT OUT, your video showed the green ARMED light going out. This is inaccurate as the light will automatically go out when the flaps are up.

Recently retired, wrenched for a year on "The Harley" in 1989 and flew 3 more years as FO. The 727 was my favorite airliner - a true pilot's airplane. Solid as a rock on final, and loved the basic airmanship it required to operate it. It did take a while to get going - I do remember seeing the last 2000" of runway a lot... 😱 I barely remember any of the specifics though. All I remember from the panel is "High, high, bleed, pack" after takeoff, and if anything went wrong, everyone had to shout in unison "CHECK ESSENTIAL!!!". The panel was a bit intimidating at first, but after about a month there was that one day when being the FE abruptly went from busy to boring. The manual spoilers on landing meant you could really kiss it on like a feather. Of course the swept wings also meant the occasional controlled crash. 😜

I'm flying FE on one of the last 727s in service in the US. You are correct about the 2 pilots shouting "CHECK ESSENTIAL" on V1 cuts, loss of all generators, and many other engine and electrical malfunctions. My response is either ESSENTIAL ON OPERATING GENERATOR or ESSENTIAL ON STANDBY. Makes more sense for the guy controlling the ESSENTIAL Power switch to actually state what he's doing than to shout check ESSENTIAL.

@@johnduffy5448 Congrats! That's a pretty sweet ride you've got there. Probably the only times I participated in the CHECK ESSENTIAL! contest was in the sim, and it was the two pilots up front arguing over who yelled it first, and I'm back on the panel thinking hey pipe down, I'm trying to figure out what's going on here... 😜

One of the first planes I ever flew on (1971) and one of my favorites. Crazy climb angles and a very cool design with wonderfully complex wings (love the three-slotted and Krueger flaps). As you mention, JT8Ds weren't nearly that smokey, plus most of the three-holers still flying have been hush-kitted. I know this is supposed to be a throwback, but as cool as that INS is, most current '27s have FMS and even at least partial (ADI and HSI/ND) glass panels, so that would be a good option (as well as the wx radar you mention). Re AP, just about every a/c in MSFS has problems with that in my experience. Everything's fine, and then I get an uncommanded roll (generally to the left) requiring disengagement to reset it (and sometimes that doesn't even work--they'd better have resolved that for 2024). BtW, the Panhandle is well northwest of Tampa (it's the narrow E/W bit on the north Gulf Coast).

I love the way they modeled the cockpit. Looks very realistic to me. Good on the rudder like you said, the rotation looked very smooth and heavy, as expected for a plane this size and age. Systems modeling seems to be good too. Is this a new heavyweight among MSFS airliners?

29:07 the outside noise is unrealistic. I remember hush-kitted 727s taking off regularly in the mid-1990s from YSSY. The noise was so loud it felt like the atmosphere might actually fracture. By a huge margin the loudest aircraft I’ve ever experienced. BTW, yes they were smoky, but that simulated smoke is too dense. Otherwise, what an impressively simulated aircraft-loved the procedures too.

Great video, as always! You are running an old version of the addon here though, in V1.0.4 the flight model, textures and effects had a massive update. In addition, the systems have been worked on. The differences are such that I feel a rerecording may be warranted, the aircraft is portrayed in a way that doesn't reflect the current product in my opinion. The development team are also working on a way to alert the user as to whether there has been a crash in the WASM modules, which may have been the cause of your autopilot issues. These issues usually crop up before powering up the aircraft, and a restart of the flight tends to fix them.

Hello MM, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks very much for the info and it’s great to hear that the FSS team are continuing to work on the addon. At the time of recording, I was running the most up-to-date version of the aircraft (I downloaded the addon from the “Aerosoft One” portal and started recording immediately). My videos do take a couple of days to create however, so it’s certainly possible that the addon was updated again, ahead of the video’s release. Unfortunately, I can’t cater my content to each new update otherwise, for better or worse with some developers, I would be left chasing my tail. All this being said, I very much enjoyed the 727 so, I’m sure it will feature on the channel again, at some point : ) I hope the above doesn’t come across as argumentative / defensive; I’m simply trying to clarify why there may be a disparity between the version of the product reviewed and the current version available. Many thanks again and all the best!

I flew on the actual aa 727 couple of things; The fuselage was almost chrome-like and reflective not matte as seen here and yes had its share of scratches visible through the shiny body work. Even the retro livery on the airbus is incorrect. It would be too expensive for aa to replicate. Btw they did smoke in the 80s but not like this sim turn the effect back at least 80% to translucent. Speaking of which it had ashtrays in the seat arms but they were welded shut.

Excellent video. The older airliners like this and the F-28 are a welcome addition to the sim but they're getting harder to fly, at least in the U.S., due to the wholesale decommissioning of VOR's. We used to have a VOR or NDB on every street corner. Now they're on their way to becoming extinct. SID's and STAR's based on VOR's have already disappeared. One minor correction: the panhandle of Florida is actually that bit that runs from Tallahassee to Pensacola. Several other states, notably Texas and Oklahoma, also sport panhandles. It must be a goofy American thing.
@musiqtee
@musiqtee 19 күн бұрын
True, also here in Europe (well, not the Panhandles…). Maybe someday a developer would make an “overlay” of extinct radio navs, and LittleNavMap or Navigraph follow up with a set of heritage charts? I know, it’s an impossible task for “realism”, but at least just to a certain degree - a “ca 1980” pseudo-realism… Better than simulated radio-silence…?

@@jxk4500 Not all of those problems are affecting everyone. Although it is true that some of the actions and reactions at the FE panel are works in progress (and progress is being made, with updates coming regularly), little or none of that affects the flying aspect of the sim and would probably not be evident except to one who had served as an FE on the real airplane (and most, if not all, of those are now retired, like me!). I, for example, am having no trouble starting the APU. And the generators operate, no matter what the CSD pressures are. Actually, with the latest revisions, all of those complaints except the gen lights have been fixed, at least for me. Things affecting the APU load is definitely not going to impact your experience flying this. The start-with-all-engines-running ( as when spawning on the end of a runway) now seems to set everything up correctly for flight, and since I started these things several thousand times in real life, I can now content myself with just taking off and flying! In my opinion, considering the effort that is being made with updates and improvements, I would have no hesitation in buying this now. This is very good now (with some relatively minor exceptions) and will surely get better over time.

Not much. From the videos now coming out, it is definitely a game, and in some respects rather sophomoric one at that, that is played on a very realistic stage - sort of an aeronautical version of Grand Theft Auto 5! It appears that there will be waaaaay to much Walter Mitty play acting, like being forced to take instruction and "checkrides" to even access much of the content. Career modes, and that sort of thing, mean little to a real pilot who wants to use something like this as an adjunct to real world flying, as I did when I was flying the big ones, and as I do now for my Cessna flying. That's just me, of course, and more power to anyone who looks forward to this as a game or game-like experience! After all, you say tomato.... But for myself, it will be some time before I look at this seriously. All the better to have them work the bugs out of it I guess.................! But I hope they sell millions of it, because maybe then they will keep the franchise going as it looks like they want to do.

@@anthonyvallillo422 it's more of a sim than 2020 for what has already been showcased, in sim charts, proper flight planning, all stock planes with a working efb, fully remade flight model and water physics, proper gear behavior based on what type of terrain the plane is above of, etc, we simply got accustomed that updates on flight simulators were some graphics, with flight model changes, and market it as a new simulator. Career mode has been in most msfs sims, 2020 being the recent outlier, but like all of them, you can simply hop on a plane and do the procedures you want and ignore that mode completely, or do it if you feel like it.
