Trapping With The Goannas Part 3

Finally managed to get some success with my traps. But unfortunately all good things come to an end and I was out of time there so had to pull the traps and head home. But still a successful trip.
My gear Im using:
Traps- Western Trapping Supplies #3 Offset laminated
Rifles- Ruger American Ranch AR mag in 223 with Leopold VX3 HD 3.5-10x50 CDS scope
- Ruger American Rimfire Stainless with a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 scope.
Camera- GoPro Hero 10 with Media Mod
Microphones- DJI Wireless Mic

@@intothenight1993 How many of those dogs are actually benign to stock? If they are, & resident, dominant dogs might actually protect stock from rovers with a taste for veal. (That may also be speculation). It's clear some information about dogs & other pests is speculative, and opinions about their control. It seems an interesting activity (never had the opportunity except for individuals gone wild). These results seem as effective as any other operator film producers, so technique is at least adequate, & it's a game where you're always learning. If learning from others, the trick is sorting fact from fiction, ego & self interest tangents. For familiar situations and locations, it's clear a lot of hunting content producers information is technically flawed, even fiction. But not all, & a mentor once pointed out that even if 9/10 opinions are trash, the other one is progress. If you can identify the trash from progress is the key, for technique and opinion.

Bugger me, you wouldn't believe it...I have one trap out in the back corner to try for Mr Fox, has a fish based lure buried, been there about 6 days, was empty this morning but this evening there is a bloody great 2XL size Goanna (front claw catch) in it! None to happy to see me, went back and got a rake and a large plastic tub. Managed to get the tub over most of him and he calmed a fair bit, sat on the tub and got him free. Flipped the tub off and he scampered up the nearest gum, no visible hindrance at all. Tried to tail whip me a couple of times as well. Not a fun way to end the arvo!

Mate I swear when that goanna whipped around to bite your right hand, my right arm whipped back in a reflex arc. I laughed, but it was like I was there. I must look up & try whatever that new stuff is from Western Trapping. I don't trap much & only have a few traps, but do boil them and wax them now & then.

great video mate just got myself a LA105 in 6.5 cm so looking forward to taking it out for a hunt took it to my place and shot it in but need to go to my mates 60000 ac place to get some dogs and hogs thanks for your content i'm living vicariously through you at the moment

Good job mate. My brother got one of them a while ago and it shoots really well. Was hitting center gong at 600m. Haven't tried any further. Haha I'm glad you enjoy the videos 👍 To make you jealous we are away for Easter visiting some friends in a property that they work on which is about 330,000 acres and there's heaps of dogs and pigs here. I wish i could be here for a week!

Haha when you have a lot of miles to cover in a short time you need to go quick. No tish wasn’t tied on. They have good balance when they get used to it. And often he will lean on me or be half under my arm 😁

Goanna will be alright ,worst is if they get clipped on the head or body , tail and feet will heal ,they are hardy. Taken out of the trap like like a crocodile Hunter ! LOL

Yeh, they hang on and do the roll, hurts like blazers. Little ones got me, the large species are hospital visits and that's hard in the sticks, be so careful in your work.

@@intothenight1993 A bag for a blindfold is something to consider if extracting anything bitey from double spring traps. As is a stout tool (a good stick etc) long enough to depress one side spring, reduces the number of your limbs in range of teeth.

Gympie area bad one farmer dairying farm woken up went out to start day only to find cows dead everywhere in one paddock 8 down.thats happened a few times over the years.

we don't get tipans here. but plenty of eastern browns. I am always on the lookout for them in the summer though. I have been bitten by a black snake years ago but it didn't get much poison into me thankfully but as long as you keep an eye out and don't be silly you will be fine.

Why do you call them dogs when they are clearly dingoes? I thought those traps were made illegal to use years ago?

Because dingoes are dogs. When you see a dog in someone’s yard you might be able to clearly see what breed of dog it is but it is still a dog. Dingoes are a different breed of dog and they are wild not tame. So they are wild dogs. The traps are legal. The ones they band are the ones with metal teeth in the jaws.
