Thanks for the tour Joe. I've been building cnc and laser cut 35mm cameras and have just started making film holders and larger cameras. The unique design of this one gave me some ideas. Enjoy!

Nice overview! I have had my Intrepid since about the end of June and, so far so good. Like your blue bellows, I chose the green. One minor thing: according to Intrepid's FAQ page the ground glass is actually glass: "...and the bright focusing screen is made in a traditional way from 2mm glass. " I have been pretty happy with mine, Joe, and I hope you are with yours.

Thank you for the correction; I thought I remembered some KZbinr saying it was plastic; good to know it's glass.

Who keeps on disliking almost everyone of your videos? You make high quality videos with no reason not to like or at least leave it alone. Maybe they don't like you but that also wouldn't make sense.

You have come into future! Can't wait to see old style images you make.

Beautiful camera. Now I'm going to have to build my own but 8x10!

I imagine part of the weight difference between the two cameras is the Speedgraphic has its own integrated case. The new camera would need a case to achieve the protection level the Speedgraphic has when it's all packed up.

Mr Van Cleave, I enjoy your videos and Thank You for sharing. I do have a question though. When do you know when it's time to move to large format? I shoot 35mm and 6.45 analog, I also consider myself more of a hobby person rather than a pro. Thanks in advance. Larry..

For me, the natural move to large format was after I'd set up my own darkroom, and was experienced with printing B&W from 35mm & medium format.

You probably ordered it at the same time in September because I got mine a few days ago too, and I live in Britain (just 80 miles from Intrepid's workshop)

I see you had some of the same issues I had when I ordered my intrepid 4x5 :( Nearly 9 weeks I waited for mine and like you they didn't send out a lens board with it either. I am in the middle of sending mine back for a replacement though as the wood was very poor with splits and damp and the ground glass was cracked... not good at all. I have never shot 4x5 before so will look forward to following you channel to pick up some tips

Richard Rollinson. I prefer the Wista 45DX Field camera with fresnel, in cherry wood from Japan.

Thanks for the realistic review. It sounds like junk with poor QC as well. I wonder why plywood. The tiny scrap of wood required can't be expensive even at a low price level.

I noticed all three of my lens boards(2 different brands) Linhof style of course have major light leaks when checking with a flashlight after mounted to the camera. Have you had this issue? Is this normal? There seems to be a little “play” there even after making the 2 screws tight to mount the lens.
@Joe_VanCleave6 жыл бұрын
I bought a lens board from Intrepid and haven’t noticed that problem. You could shim the boards to make them tighter.
@myronhensel6 жыл бұрын
Thanks I’ll see what I can do, I may even add gaffer tape to the circular part. Have you shined a flashlight on yours to check? Maybe it’s normal?

Could you do wet plate with this ?
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
I think you can do wet plate if you use a Riteway style holder modified to accept plates.

I ADMIRE HOW EASY YOU CAN ROTATE THE BACK. MINE IS VERY HARD. I HAVE TO USE TWO HANDS AND A LOT OF FORCE.

This camera don't seem to be a great deal, the construction seems also not very robust. It is nothing that will last someone decades. Someone interested in large format film can surely find great deals for around the same price from the price where film cameras still mattered.
