THIS LOCATION:
In 1890, Forest Home Cemetery contracted with the architectural firm of Ferry and Clas to design a chapel for the cemetery for funeral and visitation purposes. This chapel, still in use, was unique in its floral conservatories on each side of the chapel for the display of funeral flowers, as well as a seasonal display of flowers. In 1896, Forest Home installed the first crematory in the Upper Midwest in the basement of the chapel with both a retort room and a family waiting room.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

The creepiest part of cremation is that it doesn’t burn the whole body! I remember another video you made a while back. They have to cried up the remaining bones! Well, my husband got some of his fathers cremated remains and there was a piece of a bullet that his Dad had lodged next to his spine from WW2 . We actually thought it was very cool and Jon’s thinking of getting it made into a pendant in memory of his father. I think that’s cool!

Catherine, so sorry about your father in law, but I would do the same thing with the bullet. What a piece of history.

I agree. Ron, you are me if I had the money and the time...LOL. I truly feel like I am right there with you, Ron. When you are going through old buildings, etc. with the history and the architecture and the realization that these were real people, it's like I forget where I am for a few moments. I was thinking as you descended the stairs to the crematory, that if I were able to take that tour, my husband would be bored to death, while my best friend and I would be so excited to just see the inner workings of history. One of my new favorite FOTF video tours! And they just keep getting better and better!

Okay, that was awesome....what history! What's really cool is the construction that went into so many old buildings and all the beautiful artwork in the walls and trim. People years ago took so much pride in what they did and it shows. I've been very fortunate to have been able to see (and feel) so many old structures as I was a policeman. That got me into many, many old places to explore for many different reasons! You are getting better and better all the time with your video productions Ron....you have the gift to make us feel like we are there with you. Thank you (again) for what you do.

@ Nana of 7 Precious Gran. I know how heartbreaking that is. They put my Dad in a temporary mausoleum until the one he wanted was finished. Had to wait five or six years. Had to bury my Dad twice. How horrible is that. And the cemetery screwed everyone. It was not the Mausoleum my Dad paid for for him and my Mom. Tragic, should be a law against this. The one my Dad paid for is now where they have the funerals and do embalming. Unbelievable 😥 Also my parents were supposed to be in Air-conditioning and Heated. Everytime I called to see what was happening. They blamed one contractor after the other. God is watching. Thank you for sharing your story 👍 I'm sorry you went through that as well......

I thoroughly enjoyed this, Ron. The building and interior was just breathtakingly beautiful. You have an eye for the fine details and I was quite happy you pointed things out, even the workmanship on the mechanical components was just outstanding to see. I love old wood and the glass windows just fascinated me. The doors and entree ways were painted a cheerful, rich yellow. That I especially loved, it added a welcoming element to this place. Will undoubtedly watch this again to enjoy all that detail and one of a kind craftsmanship. Would love a chance to see the beer barons' mausoleums if you can swing that later this year. Thanks again, Ron!

Love both sinks, love the blown glass, stained glass, wood work, green houses on each side of the chapel. I love the fly in and the views of all the architecture. The mosaic inlaid tile flooring, the wood work throughout, the vaulted ceilings with beams, the Gothic arched doorways, the brick arched ceilings, the marble mantles and pediments and walls...this building is truly a gem. Thank you so much, Ron, for such an interesting tour of this exquisite place. Thank you to Garan for letting us inside and letting us see what nobody else can see and for all the history. Fascinating video. Thanks so much. I love to see all the details of the old, old buildings. Early in my working life, I was a building engineer for a 6 story 1890s office building. Keeping that building going was quite a task. The old ventilation, elevators, gas, and water piping was fascinating to work on; but the OLD wiring was a real nightmare. We came across several "turn of the century" electrical junction boxes. On more than one occasion, we opened one of those old j-boxes (they measured 12" x 12") , saw a giant mass of old cloth insulated wire, and IMMEDIATELY closed the box--NEVER to open it again. I Love your channel. Thanks for keeping history and memories alive.

( sorry just jumping in on this post )I am right at this moment watching your video of your return to St Michael's at Boston...(I am in Australia) ... you pretty much summed up how I feel about cemeteries ..The stories, the lives.. otherwise forgotten So much love and thought goes into so many graves ( noting that most families may have loved and cared as much but couldn't afford to place such monuments up) only to have no-one look at them decades later... I really appreciate the work you do on telling these stories .

We just lost Mom about 8mo. ago and her funeral ran into several thousand dollars, thank God for burial ins., but I have no burial so in order to save my son a few thousand for my time, I've suggested cremation for me. So this is really fascinating for me to see. Thank you very much Ron!!
