Such a peaceful beautiful place. Manicured lawns, pretty flowers, very well cared for. But yet you hear of stories like this one and you look again at the exterior of what's presented very well knowing not everything you see on the outside is true to be the same on the inside. Beautiful lawns don't mean the grounds are not sour. This story is a prime example of such. Thank you for telling these stories with such care and respect. What an amazing story, and so very sad. How negligent of the first ones to investigate, they would have found the body right away if they'd searched the basement. They felt it was unnecessary because it involved priests and nuns. That was their mistake, to automatically assume there could be no foul play.

A very suspenseful story and SO interesting!! I worked for a tree nursery in my teens for family friends and we use to go to every cemetery in PA, I think!!! We would have to find the correct stones & lay on grave sprays or wreaths or whatever & we were so busy selling Christmas trees & etc. that it seemed like we always got stuck out there until 2 or 3am putting on these pine decos with our flashlights yelling “Hey guys I found it!!! It’s over here!” Haha! So cemeteries are kinda normal to me..and they bring back loving memories of my family friends. They’ve all passed now & Im your age, just about. But these stories just fascinate me every time. Thank you!

Be careful about judging what you don't know. In the old days you had to be baptized in order to be buried I concentrated ground.( There were a few other things too)this was the only way a stillborn or a baby that died before it could be baptized could be buried in concentrated ground.

I was brought up Catholic. The older I got, the more I questioned the hypocracy. I asked my Father, a staunch follower many questions pointing out things that made no sense between reality and Catholicism. I was abruptly told not to question things. It was like questioning God himself. When I turned 18, I told my parents I no longer wanted to hear about the Catholic church. My parents were both immigrants. Religion was intertwined in their family's lives for generations. There wasnt a single thing done without the church involved. It was a tradition. Dad passed away. Mom told me about some of the 'stories' about the small town European parish they grew up in. There was murmurs, but no one ever spoke up and asked for the truth. In doing so they would have been 'challenging or questioning God'. Their silence, blind obedience and complacency is why these horrfic 'SINS' have been allowed to occur for centuries. Since then, one scandal after another has been revealed. Many of these have been confirmed by the Vatican. And yet no one ever seems to be held responsible and accountable for these atrocities. The nun in the basement is just another horrific incident in the string of many with this church. I wonder if those perpetrators ever worried about God's judgement? Thank you for sharing this. Its shocking, but not surprising.

Sister was a Felician nun and I was taught by this order in the 70's in Livonia, Michigan. As a Catholic I'm almost positive her remains were buried. Sister would have received her ring at perpetual profession of vows.

We can only speculate on the obvious. I take that very lightly, as many past crimes were found to be wrong, when based on the "obvious". It does sound like a lovers triangle; however, there could have been another man involved. There could also be another totally different reason she was murdered, perhaps jealousy because Stella had to work so hard ,and Janina just happened to be pregnant and no one knew. I'm glad she was found. I think to disappear into the nowhere, and your existence extinguished, is a terrible thing.

Poor Eunina, life dealt her a very hard hand from the very beginning. I can't help but wonder how her life would have turned out very different, had she not lost her parents & family at such a young age. She was the perfect victim, a lone woman that very few people would miss after a short period of time. The murderer(s) may have escaped justice on earth, but they certainly will not escape it in the afterlife. Rest in Peace Sister Eunina, you are not forgotten 🥀✝🙏

Poor sister. She probably loved Father Andrew. So many years of scandal. I’m glad there was some justice. But Father Edward deserves no peace. Nor Father Andrew. May God be their judge because no justice was done here on Earth. Thank you for this story. 🙏🏻

I am from Michigan. Oddly... not a lot of people know of the basement nun. Traverse City is beautiful, as is its neighbor, Kalkaska. I'm glad you did this story. People need to know about things like this and forgotten people that mattered to someone. No huge impact on the world, but the held impact for those who knew/loved them. Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing.

Also you passed by a headstone with ‘Miller’ on it…the last name of the teenage housekeeper who got pregnant by Father Edward. She died of TB in 1921

Well I saw last night another person show her headstone (the teenage housekeeper) and it had her Polish name on it. Miller was the Americanized version. But still caught my breath when I rewatched your episode and you walked by the Miller’s plots!
